Default How to reduce a fever?

The first thing to consider when reducing a fever is making sure you drink plenty of fluids without caffeine. In children fever must be reduced below 102°F (38.9°C). This is done by using a non-contact thermometer and taking the right medications. It’s okay to treat your child’s fever if your child doesn’t seem too ill. Doctors don’t recommend taking aspirin since it may cause liver failure in some children. Also, you must dress your child with the adequate clothing by dressing him/her lightly. That way heat can escape when the fever is ready to go down. A warmth bath is also recommended but most doctors say you most allow the medication to bring down the fever first before doing that. Rubbing alcohol must not be used. It’s quite dangerous to use it on children. The most common cause why parents visit the pediatrician is fever. For infants below two months the doctor must be called immediately when fever occurs since they haven’t developed their immunological system completely yet. Temperatures over 104ºF are a sign of a serious bacterial infection. It could be meningitis or pneumonia.

Thanks for sharing this information. Taking paracetamol is fine on infants as long as it is prescribed by the doctor. There's a recommended dose though of how much a baby should take. My baby has a fever for 3 days, maybe because of the season since I don't see any reason why he should get sick.

I remember stressing out with our first boy, the few times he had fever. I would call Kaiser Permanente, our health provider, and the nurse would always say, "give tylenol, if the fever persists for more than two days or goes OVER 104, bring him in"

104 seems kinda warm for me...but, he pulled through.

A cool bath helped my little one when she had a fever that wouldn't go away with tylenol. One short cool, not cold, bath and her fever was down and stayed down
