I'm Gillian and I found out on July 3 but didn't believe it until the 5th test on July 5! This is our first baby! Our due date is Mar 6. My mother said that "we are fertile women" in our family....she wasn't kidding!

Hello ladies! Nice to meet all of you and congratulations!!! Well I just found out that I am pregnant. This is our fist also!!! We started trying a few months ago and I just found out TODAY!!! My period was late so I suspected but didn't want to get too excited then two tests were negative. But I took one yesterday morning and the little pink line was really faint. I decided to get an "idiot proof" one that would tell me in words whether or not I was and after I took it this morning, my hubby and I danced around the kitchen a little bit. :-) We are very excited!!!

    Talking Greetings!

My husband and I are expecting our first little bundle on 3/23/11. We tried for a mere month! (My Grandmother had 6 by 26 so fertility runs rampant in my family as well).

We found out on 7/10 and have been very excited since. I am looking forward to my first Ultrasound on 8/3. First Prenatal visit was not a whole lot of fun... but I guess I have to get used to being poked and prodded.

It is nice to have fellow preggos out there to enjoy the journey with. This is an experience I have looked forward to for years. I have been with my husband for almost 15 and am so grateful to have such a supportive Love of my Life.

I look forward to chatting with you all as the weeks and months go by!

I haven't had mine yet. What should I expect?

    Smile First Appointment

The first appointment is pretty much the longest one you will have. After filling out the basic "This is who I am and how I'll pay" paperwork, A nurse took me back, weighed me and checked my urine for proteins and sugars. A general rundown of my information, including my last menstrual period (important to know) was recorded.

After the nurse finished the preliminaries, they took me back to the doctors actual office to wait for him. He came in after a bit and asked several questions about family history of different diseases, birth defects etc... all the while explaining what to expect in between. This was also my time to ask questions (which I had with me in a handy dandy little notebook, all ready for him).

Then I was escorted by another nurse to the exam room where a breast exam was performed and then a general pelvic exam and pap-smear (this happens on the first visit, but not again until a few months from now). He advised me that I would be setting up my next appointment for 1 month from that day, but also to set a separate Ultrasound appointment. He recommended waiting until 7-8 weeks along to get the US so the baby's heart has time to form enough to actually be seen/heard.

Lab paperwork was prepared for me so that I may get bloodwork done. This is to check for potentials such as the Rh factor (+ or -), HIV and Cystic Fibrosis (both were optional, I declined the HIV since it was not necessary), Iron and general blood health etc...

All in all, it was pretty straight forward. I suggest getting a little notebook and marking down any questions/concerns you may have when you think of them so that you will be prepared to ask them at the time of the appointment and not a "deer in headlights" type (like me) who goes blank when the moment arises. =)

    FYI: Ultrasound vs. Sonogram:
"Ultrasound is the frequency above what humans hear, sonogram is actually the imaging technique which uses ultrasound. Basically, the image created in the sonogram results are a result of the ultrasound – so one is actually a product of the other"

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm a bookworm and always check my sources. =) Good to have others to chat up and learn-as-I-go with.

What happens at the first appt depends on the OB and how far along you are. Usually its background info blood tests and if your due for a pap they do that also. If your further then 10 weeks they sometimes try for hearing the heart beat, but not always. It mostly just makes the whole idea of being pregnant become very real, its awesome.

You ladies having your first feel free to ask any questions you might have, this is #6 for me so there's really not much I haven't had happen or worried about happening.

I’m sorry that you can’t get in till 8-26…. With my first OB appt it was just family history and blood work. They also gave me an ultrasound then just because of the fact that I have miscarried before. I go back in on 8-13. That’s when they will do everything else for me. And then after that ya just go in and will hear the heart beet and be on your way. At 20weeks you will have your ultrasound and will be able to find out what you’re having. That seems so far away right now but I know it’s not… when are you due jlharrell1981???
