I only breastfed for 2 months. I absolutely loved it, but had to stop due to extreme joint pain from my shoulders down to my toes. It got so bad that I couldn't even hold my little one After doing some reserach, I read that other nursing moms experienced similar pains due to the relaxin (sp?) hormone that is still being produced when nursing. I know it doesn't affect everyone, but it affected me big time. I planned on bfing for at least a year, but had to stop so I could take care of my son. I would do it all over again though and plan to for future children. I just know what to expect now.

well thanks everyone for your feedback. I was trying to put together a general idea of how long women breastfeed for, because my mil doesn't know and my mom doesn't talk to me so I'm out in the dark about it all.

Great job to everyone who even tried to breastfeed. Even the shortest amount of breastfeeding counts. As for myself I'm still breastfeeding even after the rocky road I had to over come to breastfeed.

I don't know how long I will breastfeed for, but as for right now I've been making goals for myself. Like my son is almost 3 months, my goal now is to breastfeed until he's 6 months at least. Then when 6 months gets here I'll make another goal based upon how things are going and any circumstances that may occur.

I am still breastfeeding but plan to start weaning around 11 months..however, I read that majority of women bf 1 yr and older....that's not going to change my mind though..here's the link with those stats:

I breast fed my two oldest until around 1-year-old and am currently breastfeeding my 10-month-old. With each baby my milk supply has been a little less so breastfeeding has ended a few weeks earlier each time for me but was still able to keep it going 'til about that 1 year mark.
I wish you the best with your new baby!

my daughter was born in oct. 2010 I breast fed my daughter for 6 weeks. I had my tubes tied at 6 weeks pp and they medication that was in the anistesia made my supply go down. I tried to increase my supply by pumping exta, letting her use me as a pacifier and I did the skin to skin cuddling, I uped my fluid intake and it just wasn't good enough. My goal was to breast feed for 1 year but with my supply going down it didn't work. I kept on trying to breast feed and pumping up until I totally dried up around ten weeks.

My son was born in 2008 and he was a premie. He was on a vent and unable to latch on so I pumped the entire time we were at Childrens Hospital and I had enough stoked up at the hospital in the freezer to take home and feed him for a month! He was never able to latch on because he couldn't suck breath and swallow so I had to exclussivly pump, which I did. But I didn't have the hospital grade breast pump so my supply eventually went down. But atleast I did it as long as I could
