    Default Annoyed at Mommy Makeovers.

Okay, I'll admit it would be nice to have some new clothes and make up.
But I'm so sick of mommy makeover experts bashing moms that have "let themselves go". Just because I would rather spend an hour playing blocks with my daughter than straightening and styling my hair that doesn't mean I feel unpretty. It just means I have different priorities.

And if I want to wear jeans and my husbands t-shirt to the store, is it really that big of a deal to you that you need to judge me and my femininity? You don't know what obstacles I've faced today, and how much sleep I had last night! If I'm okay with wearing sweats to Target shouldn't you be okay with it too?

I realize the intention is to make a handful of moms feel beautiful, and put some advice out there on the table for the audience. And that's great. But doesn't the real result just make the rest of us feel guilty for our ponytails and lack of mascara?

    Is anybody with me?

Don't ever let a TV show make you feel inferior because your priorities are focusing on someone other than yourself. There is no shame in placing your needs behind someone you love.

To play Devil's advocate, maybe the show is trying to be a helpful reminder that sometimes moms need to take a moment for themselves. However, a woman should only take time for herself if it is something SHE wants to do - not what anyone expects of her.

Daughter of narnia, I know what you mean. I see shows like that tell people what they're doing wrong, and how ashamed they should be to look like that, but honestly all that glamour stuff isn't me. I've always like the laid back look. My hair is always in ponytail. And I'm not one for makeup. Yet some days I like to dress up just for a change, but it bothers me that these people think the only way people feel pretty is by dressing up or doing their hair and make up. I feel good just the way I am. And no one will ever change that.

I totally agree my kid usually leaves the house dressed better than I lol. Granted I work outside the house so I have to go somewhat decent although casual but if I'm running around on a weekend day or playing with my daughter a pair of comfortable shorts or sweats or jeans and a tshirt is fine for me. I do still take some time for myself and go out with mom, sis & friends from time to time then I dress up a little more. If you are cleaning on Saturday morning and have to get a couple things from the store is it really necessary to get changed and create more laundry.

I would much rather some ideas on how to look semi-decent in less than five minutes. I need ideas on a really low-maintenance hair cut. Comfy clothes that look ok- but don't cost a fortune and can go through a washing machine. (hate dry clean only!) Because our priorities SHOULD be spending quality time with our kids.

I agree with you all! It's all about priorities. We're not June Cleaver here, nor do we need to always be looking like we're going to a photoshoot! Jen and Barb are these two mothers that met at "Mommy and Me" class and decided to start their own website about delving into the topic of how the roles of Motherhood are being redefined by the contemporary version of a Mom. Moms work long, grueling hour days and then feel like they've failed when their house isn't spotless. These two moms have made it their mission to help other moms realize they are ALL successful, no matter how busy they are, how little time they have to clean the house, or how often they get to put some makeup on! I just read their latest blog and it was on celebrity moms they admire. You might want to check it out, they have consistently given me great advice for years.
Here is the link to their blogs: http://bit.ly/9wPrGy
They also have weekly episodes they star in and give such great tips on family and how to take some time out for "Mommy Time." Check it out, ladies and let me know what you think!
