    Default Molluscum contagiosum

Does anyone out there have a child with Molluscum contagiosum? My daughter - who will be 2 in a few months - has had it since she was about 6 months old. It is absolutely horrible! They are these awful pimple looking pumps all over her stomach and arm-pit. I took her to the doctor when I noticed them, and the doctor told me that they would just go away and to not worry about it. They bleed all the time, and they have spread all over the place! They went from a few bumps to at least 20 or 30 bumps. She told me they would go away in anywhere from 6 months to a year, but no longer then that. I feel so bad for Emma, because she tries to itch them all the time and I know that they really bother her! I wish there was something I could do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

hi there! my ex-husbands son had MC. It started out with a very small amount of this pimple like bumps. when i started noticing more i said something to his mother, and wanted to get him looked at. she refused. i took him to my local pharmacist at the time and he told me that it looked to be mc, and that fungal cream that you would use for you feet with a bandaid would remove it easier than goin to the dermatologist. i can not remember what kind of fungal cream it was, but i did get a kind that would normally go on the foot (otc). i waited till we had him for the three week summer visitation and then i gave him a bath and picked one bump, i put the cream on, did not rub it all in, and then a bandaid. i left it on for a day or two, then took it off. the bump was gone. i was completely amazed. in the mean time i had taken him to a doctor of my choice without his mother knowing and they told me that was what it was and leaving it alone it would go away on its own, or the only other way was with some type of acid to burn it off, freeze it off, painful for the boy either way. when i saw that someone had been picking at the bumps i told his mother about the cream and even sent it with him when he went for his weekend visitation with them. she would not use it, she told me that she was taking him to the dermatologists and that they were removing them. well if that was true then that derma doc wasnt good at his job, whoever was messing with them was leaving big crater like holes in his skin, and they were sore and gross looking, which is what happens when you pick it to pull the core out. i continued my treatment for him over the next couple weeks and was able to knock out another three bumps. i was also told by a reliable source that if it was caused by sexual transmission that it is in his system and will always have mc even if the bumps are not there. they could reappear in another 5 years or whenever. if you look it up it can be passed as an std. im not sayin this is how it happened for your baby, but i was looking at all different options and sites about this. before i and his father divorced i was able to get one entire arm free and clear of those nasty bumps, and all his mother had to say was "can you stop putting bandaids on him hes allergic to them"

    i hope this helps!!

Default home remedy for molluscum contagiosum

To all parents who have little ones with MC, try duck tape. The silver tape from Scotch by 3M isn't just for Red Green(all you Canadians should get that one). My son had a bad case of MC and it started to spread to his face, with the highest concentration on his neck. My daughter had them two years ago. We took her to the doctor, and were told that she had skin tags. They would go away in a few months. They did. However my son was not so lucky. His "skintags"(which I later found out were MC) spread like wild fire and ended up everywhere. I finally said, "These aren't skintags". I looked up dermatology and papules on the net and of course learned about MC. I talked to a family friend, who is also a General Practitioner and is someone I trust. He said, "Ah, Molluscum Contagiosum. Poor Kid! Give him some Tylenol and bring him in and we'll cut' em off." My poor, sweet, child. I couldn't bear inflicting the pain so I talked to the hubby and remembered my daughter had a huge plantar's wart on her foot. Someone told me to put a piece of duck tape on it for a week or so. We did and it was gone in a week. I thought we'd try it on those pesky MC's, and what do ya know it worked. GONE IN A WEEK - all of them! Even the ones in the sensitive areas, if you catch my drift. Cut small pieces 1cmx1cm(1cm=1/2inch) and place on each MC. When the tape falls off put on another piece. It was a daily ritual for one week but it was painless and now my son isn't self conscious in public. TRY THE DUCK TAPE!!!!! My family friend was encouraged and is now telling patients to try the duck tape.

My three boys all have molluscum. One case is more severe than the others and we have done everything from the dermatologist like beatle juice poison, Aldera, Zymaderm (well that was one off the internet.) Retin-A, Fluticasone, to freezing them off. Well, they are still spreading like wildfire. I am going to take the advice of one of you mothers and try duct tape! I used it before on 2 planters warts I had on the bottom of my feet and they were gone in 2 weeks, so I am going to try it on my son in a small area first. Thanks.

My son is 2 yrs and its been a year with MC . i have read lots about it and there is not much research done on it to find a cure . why what etc...

    treatment choices include:

Removing the viral material in the center by scraping the center briskly (curettage).
    Freezing the skin growth (cryotherapy).
Putting medication on the skin (topical medication).
Taking medication by mouth (oral medication).

When the Pediatrician saw said its cause of sweat and when it started to spread i was worried and searched on internet and knew its mc . took my son to Pediatrician .. "nothing to worry it will go on its own" Then 2 more. i have been 6 times to the Pediatrician. My son has it on his face and one on the eye and under the eye. He had running nose and rubbing mc and spreading it on cheeks. 2 of then started to bleed. i wiped with dry tissue and it came off and then blood thought its gone but i can still see them. Sometimes when it grows big you can see the centre a white point coming out. Now on body.

I went to DERMATOLIGIST. They wanted to put some liquid. i asked for ointment. They said no this is spread its virus, you have to get it treated. I have spent a year reading about MC. And i know as its on face the liquid will leave marks on face. I told them it will leave marks on his face, they say even mc will leave marks on the face- WHICH IS FALSE. I know ALDARA ointment works well. I asked for it. They said fine for face we will precribe the ointment but the ointment doesnt work on body. You get it done on body. I cant treat the one near and on the eye. They said its not painful. WARTS liquid - applied to mc put a bandage and kept for 15mins. After 15 mins the nurse said i will take this bandage off and clean the area with soap and water. The removal of bandage was vey painful for my son and it got me in tears. She asked no to touch the treated area and it will fall off on its own and there will be blisters. The nurse said we dont know if this will work if it doesnt then come back and we will try something else. I was speechless.
Then comes the Dermatoligist --- i dont know if Aldara can be used on children, you ask pharmacist.
Nurse said dont use it near the eye and on the eye , dont touch the ointment with your finger , break a toothpick and use it. dont touch the area , use it at night when your son sleeps , and dont let it spread all over his face and lips.

At home i saw 2 blisters that scared me more, by evening one was huge , by night it was gone with skin hanging. My son had 3 on his body of which one is still there. Now for ointment ALDARA it will take of leash at least it wont spread, that was the main concern fine he got mc . I am waiting for a year for it to go and not to spread. Happy i got prescription for the ointment. Now comes the bad news its not for children under 11 years . NOW WHAT ITS DEAD END.

All I know it FREEZING THE SKIN GROWTH (CRYOTHERAPY) is the best but not for a 2 year old its painful and may leave scar as toddler skin is very sensitive. BEST TREATMENT FOR ADULTS.

As for duct tape , I can try on body but what about the face scars on face?

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS ALL CONCERN SHOULD SEND AN EMAIL TO BABYTALK MAGAZINE I AM SURE THEY WILL HELP US FIND CURE FOR MC FOR OUR TODDLERS.

    THANKYOU

I was reading all night and morning about using duct tape. What many moms says is after removing duct tape you have to be very careful. Make sure your clean the area and Strict attention to hygiene is very important.

    Unhappy Darned MC

I have a 5 yo old son with MC (about 20 bumps behind his knee). He has had it for about 9 months now. Pediatrician prescribed Aldara, which we used for approx. 2 months. It was very rough on the skin- not fun- lots of irritation! Pediatrician referred to a Dermatologist, who recommended scraping them off. Had that done on 2 days ago. We used a lidocaine 4% cream prior to the appointment, which I think helped with the pain, but son was still very upset during the procedure. Then, was looking at the scabs today and it looks like the derm missed some! Uugh. The nice thing is that son hasn't complained at all after the procedure, so they must not be bothering him. But now wondering....wait to see if the remaining bump turns into more, or just go back for more scraping?? What a mess! Thinking of trying the tape!

Just wanted to share my story, I am waiting to here back from the NYC derm because our pedi told us to just ride it out or get them cut off (should we??).. I dont know if I can subject my daughter to that.. I am gonna cry...

AND.. not to sound like a total idiot but nobody wants to be around us and our germs and I need socialization (i'm a stay at home!) and so do my kids, they thrive on it!!! HELLLPPP
