    Unhappy Baby won't eat!

My son loved to eat....it sometimes seemed he out ate his big sis who is 3. By the way, he just turned 11 months on the 16th of July. Anyways for the past week or so I have been having trouble getting him to eat! Usually in the morning he'd have 5-6 tablespoons of infant oatmeal with some pureed fruit mixed into it plus a some cheerios. Today he completely refused to eat his cereal after a few bites.....very unlike him. And he has been resisting eating much of lunch and dinner too recently I kept telling myself he has at least eaten breakfast well....up till today that is...I hope he makes up for it at lunch. He still eats his bottle before bed and got a bottle midday yesterday so at least got some nutrients in which makes me feel better.

It just worries me as he was in the 10th percentile in weight at his last checkup and the doc said that as long as he keeps eating so well he'll be fine. But now I am hoping he doesn't lose any weight as he already is my little skinny man.

I would love any tips or suggestions regarding this new phase. He might just be teething but I've looked for other signs of teething and he has none. But he has been a tad bit harder to keep content throughout the day and hasn't been pooping the way he usually does (that could be though bc he hasn't been eating his fruits and veggies as well as he normally would). My DD was like that only when she was teething or coming down with an illness. She too is an awesome eater but only in 24% for weight so every time she did that it wracked my nerves big time. Usually only lasted about 4 days or so, and I would try to supplement by feeding more often and feeding easier foods (yogurt, cottage cheese, etc). Helped when they were cold but she still hated eating during those times.

Those were the few times I would mix rice cereal into her sippy cups / bottles - I never did that when she ate well or was learning to eat.

Does he feed himself or do you feed him? Around 12 mo my DD dug her heels in and refused to eat until we said to heck with it, here's the spoon. Miracles of miracles, she started gobbling.

If he goes too long, may want to talk to ped about vitamins until he starts eating well again. Its so worrisome when they change their eating habits isn't it?

    Good luck!!

I am having the same problem right now. I really think that it is teething. I don't remember with the first set because it has been about 4 months but he is grabbing his mouth alot. He is also a lot fussier. He has also gone through a phase where he won't eat very well for a few days and then is back to normal. It worries me because he is barely in the 3rd percentile for weight but my dr isn't worried. He has had a steady weight gain, just really active. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just give you baby what you can and keep trying. Babies are pretty smart and I have been told they won't let themselves starve. Also, if goes on for a while and you notice weight loss, I would definitely check it out. Just trust your instints, you know what is best for your baby. Good luck!
