Default Should I seek help for postpartum ...

depression, even if I don't think I have a chemical imbalance? Should I see a therapist, even if I don't think anything is wrong with my mind?

I live for my daughter, but she deserves so much more than I can give or do for her. I fail at everything, even parenthood. I really think she'd be better off with my sister, and without her I have no reason to live.

I'm trying my best (at parenthood and life), but sometimes a person's best just isn't good enough.

We are our worst critics and we all fail at things. I responded to your post about adoption, but after reading this post I would reconsider what I said. In this post it sounds like adoption really isn't the right choice for you and you may be experiencing ppd. Reach out to people around you and talk to your doctor. They can really help you decide what you should do whether it be counseling or medication. Just don't let it eat you alive by doing nothing about it.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have insurance, so I really don't want to go see a doctor unless I have to, do you really think it's what I should do? I'd hate to waste my money on something that doesn't solve the problem.

Ppd can be a scary and dangerous thing and can end disatrously if not treated. I think if you find a planned parenthood place they can help you deal with it without much cost. Another option is to look into a program like medicaid to see if you would qualify. My cousin who suffered with it didn't have insurance, but was able to work a deal with the doctor's office for the appt cost and then be put on a medication that is on Walmart's $4 prescriptions. I would say that it is in the best interest of you and your child to go.

I posted this on your other thread, it is the number for the PPD helpline, they can help you figure out where to turn even if you don't have insurance. The helpline is a toll free number - 1-866-942-6466. Here is the link to their web page - http://www.thehelpline.org/your-baby...ssues-for-mom/

If you ever feel like hurting your baby, CALL 911 and get help to your house right away.

If your sister wants to adopt your baby, that is something to consider. But talk to her about how you feel. She might be able to help you see how wonderful of a mom you really are and what supports you have to keep you going. No matter what you do, get some help sooner than later.

I waited a year after my son was born before seeking help and wish I hadn't. My doctor was able to make things better for me so quickly and easily. I simply went back to my OB, and when I started crying in her office after just a few questions, she told me it was ok, everyone deserves to be happy, and she could help. She gave me a prescription for Pristiq and the name of a therapist if I wanted to talk it out more.

I loved the Pristiq but after being on it for a while, I lost my prescription coverage and couldn't afford it. I called the doctor's office again and over the phone was able to get them to switch it to a generic of Celexa, call that in to Target and get that filled for only $4 a month. So worth it.

Hearing I deserved to be happy made a difference. You deserve to be happy. Good luck.
