Default Soda for Kids - Need opinion not a sell

I happened upon this post and I think it is really interesting especially to me.

Having struggled to find a healthy solution to a daily issue in our house, (personally I think that both soda and juice have way too much sugar, both have the same, check the labels), my husband and I are hoping to embark on an adventure.. starting up a healthy what we like to call "lightly carbonated pure fruit Juice". Half sugar, all the goodness, and I won't have to fight my son to drink it! We are targeting kindergarten and up, but would love to hear what people think, either on this group or we would LOVE to have you fill out a survey (we haven't started so there is no sell)

    It's still junk food.
You might want to do some research on carbonated drinks causing low bone density. Keeping children off ALL carbonated beverages not matter what the good intentions should be the goal.
Unfortunately - you may also be setting younger children up to have a taste for energy drinks.

Fruit juices are bad for children. Juicy Juice, the same juice you get on WIC, rotted my sister's front teeth so bad they couldn't be fixed and her dentist forbid the drinks. Those bad teeth have finally fallen out and are being replaced with beautiful adult teeth, but Juicy Juice is still out of the question

I read a book when pregnant with my first and vividly remember this quote: "Start as you mean to go on." Sounded simple. And smart. I still believe it to be the single best parenting advice I ever got.

My kids did not get juice as infants. There's no need for it. They didn't have it in a bottle, in a sippy, in a cup. My oldest still thinks it's gross. My youngest has severe food allergies, so her pediatrician recommended calcium fortified oj once I weaned her at 13 months. She gets 3 ounces a day, still mixed with water at almost 4 years old. She'd drink it all day if I let her, but I don't. She understands that it's part of her breakfast. She gets (rice) milk and water, just like her sister. They don't drink soda, they don't drink punch, they don't drink caffeinated beverages. They have no taste for it. At parties and restaurants, they ask for water. People are amazed and ask how I get them to drink water instead of soda. Easy, I say. Start as you mean to go on.

As for dental problems, my pediatric dentist says the number one risk to baby teeth is fruit snacks. Worse than candy because parents think they are ok since they have "fruit juice" on the label.
