    Default Dilating

We had a Dr. appt today, I am 37 weeks tomorrow. I have not started dilating yet, but my husband asked (after the appt of course ) how quickly can dilation take place? Because we went straight to work from the doctor's, i can't look it up in any of the books for him, so I thought I would ask on here. I know that every pregnancy is different, and there is no set standard, but an average has to exist somewhere! This is our first pregnancy obviously, and I have no idea how to answer him. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Weeks to hours. The first part (0-4cm) can take weeks, the rest is normally a cm every hour or two.

I had a friend at work that stayed at 4cm for 3 weeks before she actually went into labor and dialated the rest of the way.
