I stopped breastfeeding in April and completely dried up. Now, I'm not pregnant; I had af late June. However, I started to notice my breasts getting bigger and more full. The other night, I got up and realized that I was leaking. I'm making milk again. Has anyone experianced this? Is this normal?
I've had droplets come out, even in the past few months, my daughter is 14 months, and I stopped breastfeeding when she was 5 weeks...I would guess that it may just be hormones leveling out in your body.
I just saw this post and suprising enough women can lactate for many years after giving birth. My daughter is now 8 and a half, and I've been lactating mildly on one side for the entire time. several months after I stopped and I thought dried up I did leak again one more time, but then it just became a gradual filling of one of my breasts. If it was stimulated then a drop or so would come out. My ObGyn did hormone tests about once a year for a little while to be sure my hormones were at correct levels and they always were. She said it's rare, but that women do lactate after weaning their child completely. I'm now pregnant with my 2nd and have for the first time in over 7 years have stopped lactating, however I'm fairly sure I'll be back to "normal" after I start breastfeeding again.
My advice, talk to your dr about it, let him/her run tests if need be just to check and learn to love your body and mommy life...lol...it will NEVER be the way it was pre-pregnancy.
Sometimes a miscarriage can also cause leaking as pregnancy hormones can trigger it. We can have a miscarriage of a pregnancy of such short duration that we are not aware that we were pregnant, so I agree have the doctor check your hormone balances. You could also be pregnant and just not showing other signs yet.
