both of my children started sleeping through the night around 4 months.
My daughter Millie, my mine and my wife's first child will be 9 weeks old on Monday, and she has been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now. Think she knew mommy and daddy needed it! Haha. She's just a sweetheart! I'm not sure if we did anything in particular to help with this, but white noise really seems to help. We keep the central fan running through the night and use a cool must humidifier to help with some congestion. And we love the hair dryer! Haha. Calms her down if she gets unsettled and really helps her get to sleep. In fact, the hair dryer put her to sleep in her bouncy chair and kept her asleep for the transfer to her bassinet around 8:30 last night until 7 this morning! We thought it was just a late evening catnap like she normally has but it just stuck! Haha. My sister on the other hand has a 7-month-old boy who still hasn't slept through the night and not even close. We are VERY thankful! Haha
Sleep through the night? They do that?
My son was six weeks premature and was always a great sleeper. Doctors had me wake him every 3 hours to feed him but after he was 6 weeks old they said I didn't have to wake him at night. By the time he was 8 weeks he was sleeping 6 hours at night. And even now he still sleeps through the night and he is almost three! The added bonus is that he is excellent at self soothing, my husband and I can read him a story and then leave the room and he falls asleep on his own without any "sleep training."
My oldest 2 were both around 14-15 months when they finally slept through the night and even then it wasn't on a consistant basis. Our 3rd is 2 months old tomorrow and sleeps in 6 hour stretches at night, I never knew they could do that! I attribute it to the fact that he was born 2lbs larger than my others
My daughter will be 7 weeks old on Wednesday. We have followed the BabyWise routine and although she is not sleeping through the night yet, she is getting better each night. We feed her a bottle at 9:30p and put her to bed around 10p when we go to bed. She used to wake up at 1:00a and then again at 4:00a, but lately she has only been waking up once around 3:00a and then she sleeps until about 7:00a or 7:30a. I consider myself lucky in this aspect. Naps are another story however!
My little girl is 10 months old now. She started sleeping through the night at 3 months. We would put her in her crib at 7pm and she would sleep til 7 the next morning...every night after her bath she wants to go to sleep.
My daughter started to sleep through the night at 5 weeks. I was going back to work at 6 week so this was important to me. I used the methods in the "Babywise" book to accomplsh this. Since then she has always been a good sleeper.
I always feel a bit guilty when sharing with my friends and family that our daughter consistently slept through the night at 4 weeks old. For the first two weeks, we were waking her every 3 hours to nurse; at her 2 week check up, the pediatrician noted that she had gained a whopping 11 oz. since birth--on breastmilk only!--and we didn't have to wake her any longer. She started sleeping longer and longer on her own after that, until at 4 weeks it was night-night all night! She is now 3.5 months and sleeps nearly 10 hours in her own crib every night!

What kind of sleep training did you use to get your 8 month old to stop waking every 3-4 hours?
