    Default Baby Shower

I had my baby shower today and it went great. We got so much wonderful things... stoller, car seat, diapers, wipes, tons of clothes, bouncy seat, high chair, blankets, and a swing. I know there is more but that is just some of it. I had one big shower with my friends, my family, my work people, and then my husbands friends, and family.. so there was probably 40 people there. It was so much fun and we are thankful for it all.

Not much longer ladies and we will have our sweet babies here

    How is everyone feeling?

That's so sweet of your friends and family, Jboz. Sounds like you're all set! Even the wipes! I told you about my shower back at Christmas--really early, but that's when I was home. I wasn't expecting anything so it was doubly nice to get some stuff. We got adorable clothes, swaddling blankets, hooded towels and a diaper bag. But I'm sitting here preparing my suitcase for the hospital (in case I go for a checkup and they keep me for a shortened cervix or preeclampsia or something!) and I'm kind of freaked out because I only have 3 newborn-size pjs and 2 preemie ones. Everyone gave us 3 or 6 month stuff. Now I'm afraid the twins will be small and the hospital staff will be grumpy and my babies won't have anything to wear.

We bought new carseats, and also a B*mbo, a bathtub and a bouncy seat on Craigsl*st. They'll have to take turns. We bought the cheapest Ik*a crib (39 euros--I convinced my husband it was worth the time he'd save) and a mattress after all, and he built a simple changing table that fits over it. They'll have to share the crib, too! I sure hope these guys get along. Right now they're always punching and kicking each other.

Joseph keeps getting the hiccups!!! Poor little guy, and it drives me nuts because it feels like I have them too.

No way, Jboz, I can't get it into my head. We're almost there! I'm at just about 29 weeks, I won't go beyond 36 or 37 weeks, and it could happen even sooner than that. I'll be a mom! These wiggly little things inside me will become babies and they'll be totally dependent on me so I'd better figure it all out fast and do things right...

I'd almost forgotten that I've got a few 0-3 month things tucked away. I'm going to pull them out and see if there's anything that looks reasonable for tiny newborns.

France, in the suburbs of Paris.
I'm so stressed right now. My PhD advisor basically signed me up for a conference at the end of March. I have tried and tried to explain to him that I just can't do it--I feel like crud and am housebound. I can't take a the metro (bumpy, exhausting, a bunch of connections, stairs) into the city and spend my days doing research at the library. I have sciatica, can barely breathe, get slammed by lots of contractions if I overdo it at all, and my brain is fried. But I think he imagines that pregnancy is like a cold, and even if I don't feel well today, I'll be fine in a day or two and I should just stop whining and get to work. I said I COULDN'T go to Paris. He said, "But it's three weeks from now. I'm sure you'll be fine by then." He keeps repeating, "Of course, I don't want to put any pressure on you in your condition. All you have to do is prepare a 30-minute talk in the next three weeks and come into the city to deliver it in front of a lecture hall full of world-renowned specialists on the subject..."
My computer battery is about to die, catch you later!

haha geez I am so forgetful.. I knew that!

You need to tell that boss what is up.. he must really not understand if he excepts you to travel when you are "that" pregnant and with twins!!! My opening to the speech would be "Since my boss is a jerk and I am here 34 weeks pregnant with twins...." haha
Let me know how it goes!

Is there anyway you could get your OB to write you a note? Maybe your prof really is one of those idiots who doesn't understand what pregnancy does to you. If your doctor states that you can't travel, then really, what can he do...

God forbid you go into labor without hubby there or near your OB!
