    Question Crib to bed

My son is 2 1/2 years old. When is it a good time to move him from a crib to a kid's bed? What are the steps to do so?

My son co-slept with me until he was two. (He's 2 1/2 also.) I didn't really take any steps. I just bought the bed, bought some Toy Story bedding (which he thinks is awesome), and I started putting him in it. I lay next to him most nights until he falls asleep and then I get into my own bed. (We sleep in the same room )

Since your son slept in a crib, he could probably benefit from the separate rails that you can buy. Just to make sure that he doesn't fall off, since he is used to being surrounded in his crib. Good luck.

There is no magic time for switching your baby or toddler to a bed from a crib. I have heard that when they start to try to climb out, it is a good sign they need to switch! Really, though, if your child is above 36 inches, he or she should start making the transition because he or she could start going over the edge on accident. We tried the transition recently with our headstrong 19 month old because she is 35 inches and has a baby brother who could use the crib on the way. It didn't work. She is in a crib still. But that is ok, SHE wasn't ready to give up the security of the crib. I am sure she will be ready sooner or later, but we are not rushing her. At 2 and a half, can your son tell you if he wants a big boy bed? Good luck to you!

On my own opinion, it takes time. it just would make things work out if there are some good changes to be done. It would take either a long time or a short time. But try to make the transition smoothly and not as a one time big time thing.
