    Default Claming Children/Taxes&FAFSA

    I didn't work last year.
I receive grants for school and am not sure if my boyfriend is allowed to claim my son on his taxes or if it will mess with my grants for school.

I think only one person can claim a dependent (unless filing jointly). If your grants are based on financial need, your son might count in that figure. Your school should have a financial aid officer who can help you determine what you need to do. There is also a 1-800 number you can call to get the IRS with tax help - find it on this website - http://www.irs.gov/contact/index.html?portlet=1 However, you don't always get accurate information (situations can be too complex to be answered well over the phone), so call 2 or 3 times to get different people, If they all say the same then it is probably correct. Good Luck.
