I have tried to feed my 7 month old some of the Stage 2 meats (Chicken, turkey, beef) he makes a horrible face and refuses to eat another bite. He even does this with the Turkey & Rice and Chicken & Vegetables. I have rotated them and even stopped trying for a couple days and tried again with no success. However when offered the fruits and vegetables he gobbles them up. He'll have 3 containers at a sitting of those, either 2 veggies & a fruit or vice versa. He was 10 lb. 5 oz. baby when he was born and weighed 21 lbs. at his 6 month well check. Should I be concerned that he is not getting any meats? He may come around when it is time for table foods, maybe he just doesn't like the texture of the baby version. Any thoughts??
Those stage 2 meats are pretty disgusting if you smell them...Don't be too surprised he doesn't like them.
My DD is also 7 mo and definitely doesn't like many of the canned foods...We were given a hand powered food grinder for a gift (I think they run about $15/$20 at babies r us) and we grind up pasta with meat, pot roast with veggies, etc (whatever I made for dinner that night or some leftovers - before I've added salt) and she really likes those. This past week, I started grinding them much less (but still small enough she won't choke) so she can try to chew/mush them with her two teeth. She actually seems more interested in eating now that she has to take a little more time moving the food around in her mouth.
If I'm in a hurry, I keep a couple of low sodium chicken vegetable soups in the pantry and I grind up those after draining off most of the broth. The nice thing - as she gets a little older, I can just put the already diced vegetables and meat right on her tray and have her feed herself with those when I don't have the time to cook something from scratch. You don't actually need to have a food grinder to mush the soups as the veggies are tender enough you can do it with a fork (just add in more of the broth if it seems to be too thick).
Hope that gives you ideas... Enjoy!
Great thoughts Kare Bear! I was going to say something very similar, but I never used the soups. Sounds like a great idea though!
My DD eats almost ANYTHING we give her (she is 18 mo now) but even she hated the meats and I had no problem understanding why. After smelling them I didn't want to try them either!
There is nothing wrong with your DS not eating those meats, but like Kare Bear said, try pureeing (sp?) some of your own!
Thank you Kare Bear for your suggestion, that's a great idea! And thanks to you Angelrose12 for your input as well
