Default Need unbiased opinion between DH and me

We are expecting our first boy in April. We have a girl (Claire Corinne) already and do not know if we will have more kids. Claire's middle name is my sister's name. We just both liked Claire as a first name because it wasn't TOO common and it seemed pretty for both a baby and an adult. We have a 3 sylable last name that is hard to spell AND pronounce, so we like short names.

We are pretty sure the first name is going to be Logan (other names on the shortlist were Noah and Lucas...I just found out ALL of them were on the most popular of 2009 list! Doh!)

We are stuck on the MIDDLE name! I want to name him Logan Paul after my dad.

My dad has been VERY supportive of our family, from loaning us the money for our family car (so I can pay a lower interest rate) to forgiving the car loan a few years later to get my DD into a better daycare rather than a home day care, to loaning us the down payment for our house when we were first married! (We pay dad back, his interest rates are bettter than the bank's!)

My DH wants to name him Logan Hansen. Hansen is a middle name used by all the males in his family going back to his grandfather. It was actually used in the girls too up to his generation, but we got away with it with my DD.

    So what do you think?

I think Logan Paul sounds good, and it's a lot better than Logan Hansen. I'd pick a shorter name in the middle if you have a long last name. Logan and Hansen also sound too similar (same syllable pattern and ending sounds). Your son will already have the last name used by all the males in his father's family so it's not like you're neglecting your husband's family here. Naming him after a person you care about and honoring your dad for all his support are also really good reasons and will give a special meaning to his name and encourage an even stronger bond between him and his grandfather.

If your husband is devastated not to use Hansen, I guess you could go with Logan Paul Hansen... but that's a lot of names for a little guy to deal with. I'd rather drop Logan and use Paul Hansen in that case.

I was going to suggest using 2 middle names, they are hardly used anyhow. That way you both get what you want. I also think that since you honored your family with the first child that Hansen ought to be the first middle name. Just a thought.

OMG, DH's fave boy name right now is Logan! I too fear the popularity of it...

I think that the 2 middle names will work -- my Godson has 2 middle names, 1 is probably much like Hansen in your family. Every male in his dad's family share the middle name Hawk (I KNOW!), and my cousin (mother) wanted an old family name as well for a middle name (Aloysius - again, I KNOW!) In the end, they compromised, and Hawk comes before Aloysius in the name order...

Hardworkin has a point in honoring both sides of the family equally, and I'd imagine your father will be happy either way

    Best of luck hun!

I think Logan Paul has a nice ring to it. I don't agree that having two middle names is such a good idea if you already have a long last name. Logan Paul Hansen Lastname. Too much, in my opinion. But, if you have already got to already got to use your sister's name, I think it's only fair that your DH get to use one as well. Good luck.

I have to say I think middle names were invented to honor people with out actually having to name your kid after them. Most people will never know what your middle name is. People do see your middle initial more often though. Logan P Lastname or Logan H Lastname? I like Logan H better I think. I would go with Hansen. Even though it makes me think of the band

I would say to go with Hansen. It's only fair that your DH gets to pick the second child's name since your first has a name from your family.
