    Unhappy Need Advice Regarding Miscarriage

I am 12 weeks pregnant with a blighted ovum (no fetus). Tuesday I started to have brown stringy discharge. Wednesday I had nothing. Thursday I had bright red bleeding for about an hour & then it promptly ceased. Emotionally I'm fine because there is no baby involved. Physically, I want my body back. It may sound harsh but I really need this to be done. I would rather not have a D&C. Does my progress sound normal. How long does this take? Any thoughts welcome. Thanks for your time.

My miscarriage was a bit different - I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy that we have been able to treat with medicine rather than surgery. I am four weeks out from my first (of two) treatments and my body is STILL not back to normal. I didn't start bleeding heavily until about week 3, although I did have stringy discharge on and off until then. The heavy bleeding is a good sign as it indicates the uterus is shedding the thick lining developed during a pregnancy.

Your progress sounds very normal to me. Give your body at least the same period of time to recover as from any pregnancy - 4 to 6 weeks before you resume normal activity. I know you didn't give birth, but your hormones are still returning to pre-pregnancy levels, your uterus still has to shed the lining and return to pre-pregnancy size (yes, it already started to stretch), your body has to release the extra blood/fluid it's been developing in order to support a child, etc.

I understand how much you just want it all back to normal...In fact, I think I said something to that affect to my husband this a.m., but you need to be patient with yourself and cut yourself some slack. This is a process that can't be rushed!

Thanks so much for your encouraging words. My bodies ambivilence to release this has been maddening. The doctor wanted to give me an abortogenic drug to speed up the process. I would rather nature take it's course. I have an appointment for another sonogram on Monday. I'm hoping I'll have made progress by then. Thanks again....
