    Default 1st and 2nd foods

So my child is now six months old and we are starting the whole solids bit, I was told to start with the yellow and orange veggies like sweet potatoes, squash and carrots. The things is and maybe I'm just blonde but all the jars I can find that are those are the 2nd foods. Do they consider cereal the first food and those a second cause I can't find jars in my local store anyways that say first foods. I'm going to walmart this weekend but was just wondering if I missed out on something.

Gerber sells little containers of 1st foods...the main difference from what I can tell is that with 1st foods - they are only 1 food....green beans, carrots, squash, etc. Whereas with the 2nd foods they sometimes mix...strawberry banana, etc.

Heres a link to Gerber's 1st foods. (I'm going through this right now too...and I was confused as well! lol)

Well all I can find here is the dang 2nd, so I got the sweet potatoes carrots and squash, which they are just the one vegetable and I don't plan to do anything mixed until the doctor oks that. But I am going to walmart this weekend and gonna get her some more food.

I just steam the veggies myself and puree them. It's really simple, and fairly cheap (even if you go all organic). I use ice cube trays to freeze the remainders. So easy and preservative-free. Just an idea.

May mommy is right first foods are plain. They also come in smaller jars-2 ounces instead of 4 ounces-second foods. I actually like beechnut, for fruit in particular. They are sweeter and not as tart as other kinds. Especially, apples, and peaches, and their pears actually have a flavor! But different brands make different mixes. Gerber peach cobbler and fruit medley are nice treats-when your bay gets there of course.
