The Teacher's Job?

When it comes to your kids' educations, how much of it do you think depends on the teacher, and how much on you, the parents?

Is it a strict 50-50 split, or different? Be honest!

Hey, I'm always honest!

I think it's more of the teacher's responsibility to teach my child, that's what they are getting paid to do. It's my job to make sure they go to school and do their homework. As far as actually teaching them math, science, or what ever; that is for a teacher to do. I'd pity the world if I had the sole responsibility of teaching my kids, not saying I'm stupid but . . . yeah, at somethings I am really stupid.

My vote would be 80% teacher and 20% parent.

I totally agree with Big-Mouth. If I wanted to be a school teacher I would have gone to school for that or I would Home school. Parents need to support the kids, the teacher and pay attention to what is going on. But not have to teach.

I think that it is close to 50/50...
One would fail without the other (unless one homeschools). The teacher has to do his/her part & I have to do mine. She teaches my child what she needs to know; I help my child review & with homework (who says we'll never use algebra again? lol) I make sure my child is at school; the teacher makes sure that her lessons are challenging but rewarding. The teacher is responsible for teaching my child how to read & write while I'm responsible for teaching her how to conduct herself properly. To me, it goes together like peanut butter & jelly..

I'm only the mother of a Kindergartner. I feel the split is 70% teacher and 30% my husband and I. As I do not feel classrooms can meet the needs of each child because often times the teacher is dancing as fast as they can to pull the test scores up of lesser performers (thanks NCLBA), I supply the practice and enhancement of what the teacher can not do for my son.

I volunteer in Kindergarten, 3rd and 5th grades and I see the theme repeating itself. Basically I springboard from what the teacher is doing.

At least here in Florida, teacher's have a daunting task with FCAT and NCLBA. I think they are doing the best they can but need a little backup?
