    I'm very conflicted...

I've seen some research showing inherent flaws with travel systems...namely that they become separated from the base during accidents or that the rebound slams the infant into the seat.

But on the other hand, I used an infant travel system and it was really convenient to bring her inside when she fell asleep.

It was hard moving to a regular carseat, lol. I've found myself many times reading a book and sitting in the car rather than taking the risk of waking her up.

Personally, I went with the travel system. I know a lot of mom's say that their baby outgrew it really fast, but I have the Graco saferide, well it's called the snugride32 now, and it holds up to 32lbs. I didn't have to get my daughter a convertible car seat till she was 14 months old, and that was only cause she didn't fit with her winter coat in the carrier. Here is a guide on helping decide which is best for you and your family, take a peek. http://www.allreviews.com/car-seats/...hould-you-buy/ Hope that helps! And congrats!!!

    Default go with travel system!

gobethgo, you must have become a mother by now, congrats, but interested to hear what you have chosen?! Like many here I love my travel system, the Orbit Baby, because my girl can sleep while being transferred from stroller to car seat. And to the point of safety, if you wish the infant car seat can also be fastened by a seat belt like regular car seats. I do not know the exact research on the differences re safety, but you might be able to find some more info here:

I like this specific travel system because it also takes care of the later stage when your baby becomes a toddler. But of course you will still need to buy a booster seat after that... Given these expenses, also check this site with price comparisons and cash back of the best car seat retailers: http://www.carseatszoko.com/

I loved my travel system. I could take the baby out of the car, leaving the base and snap her onto stroller and keep rolling. Never waking her etc.

I'm late to this Thread, you probably have your baby by now... what did you choose?

I personally got a travel system when my baby girl was born. But here in South Florida it gets really hot, and she would sweat all the time snugged up in the car seat. We switched through different models (which got expensive) but she didn't like any, she would cry and cry and cry. When she was 4 months old we got the Britax Boulevard convertible seat... it was a life saver!!! My baby started sleeping in the car and never fussed anymore.

I love that seat... it's great because you can use it for any baby over 5 pounds and it has a reclining feature for a baby that can not seat up properly. Any baby can be comfy and the base is high enough that they can see out the window with ease.

Now that we are trying to have our second baby, I'll definitely get a convertible from the start. All the crying and discomfort is not worth the ease of movement a travel system gives. Of course, every baby is different and some don't mind the car seat that comes with the travel system.

I must say that my baby was on the big side of the scale, and was very alert and nosey from an early age, so she also did a lot better as soon as we switched our stroller to the BumbleRide Indie. It's more open and higher off the ground, so she could see everything around better. It definitely helped with keeping her entertained.

The bottom line is that neither choice is better, it all depends on your preferences, lifestyle and your baby's personality. Different moms like different things, hoped you are happy with what you finally chose.
