I am just wondering if anyone here is teaching their toddlers to read? There has been a lot of talk about it lately.

My 2 year old loves the Monki See Monki Doo DVD's. There are currently 3 DVD's available. The first one teaches body parts and first words, the second one teaches colors and their newest is all about shapes. We have the first two and whenever they come on my baby stops what she is doing to watch them. They have nice music and lots of cute little poems in there. They are really educational but a lot of fun. I can't believe how fast my baby was picking up stuff from watching them. She loves to sing the Monki See Monki Doo song.

I thought anyone that wants to find a good video series would enjoy these as well. We love them!

So my daughter is going to be 10 weeks tomorrow and i think she is already getting teeth! She drools non stop and is always chewing on her hand or suckig on her tongue and shes been getting a little bit fussy! I'm not sure if she is teething or not, does anyone have any ideas???

Brianna Nicole 10lbs 3oz! Yes i said 10lbs! And i gave birth to her vaginally! I checked into the hospital on 9/11 about 10:30pm i was doing pretty good i was 4 to 5cm and 85% effaced. I did pretty good with the pain for a little while but then around 2am i decided i needed something for the pain so they gave me something in my IV, it was very nice for about an hour, it really helped me sleep. Well after that wore off i was really feeling it so i gave in and got the epidural. That was all fine and dandy for about an hour but then all of a sudden it stopped working on my left side, they had me lay on my left side trying to get the medicine to go to that side but that didn't work. I really thought i was dying at that point, and let me tell you i was definately letting everyone know how much pain i was in! I think i scared all the women on the labor and delivery floor. So finally they had another guy come in and take out the first epidural and put in a new one. Let me tell you it was the difference between night and day! I couldn't feel a thing i was in heaven! The only problem with that was that when it came time to start pushing i couldn't feel anything so i couldn't tell if i was doing it right, so they had to turn down the dosage. Then they brought in a mirrior which helped A LOT! Plus i had my babys dad, my mom, his mom, my grandma, and 2 of my sisters in the delivery room with me so i have TONS of emoional support which was great! So then at 12:11pm my little bundle of joy was in my arms! Now here we are almost 10 weeks later and she is getting so big already! My mom told me not to blick because she will grow up so fast and let me tell you she was right!
Well congrats to all the new mommies out there and to all you others that still have some waiting to do, enjoy it now! Theres not much sleeping once they get here and your belly with never be the same again!!! LOL Good luck all!

I'm the father, the mom is about two months away. She's in pretty good spirits these days considering but has a long history of depression. Fortunately she is seeing a therapist beginning next week that specializes in depression and pregnancy. Right now she has a lot of issues she needs to sort out regarding her family especially. Her dad doesn't know, her mom and sister aren't very supportive and the relationship she has with her family is very strained to begin with (for starters she speaks to her mom in deliberate broken English and her mom speaks back in deliberate broken Korean which itself is a pretty good indicator of a broken relationship). I listen to her when she talks about how sad it makes her that she doesn't have the support from her mom she feels she deserves and that other people have. I tell her I love her, she has my support and my empathy but that I really just don't know what to say. So I encouraged her to see a therapist and I'm glad that she has now agreed to.

But I'm very concerned about post-partum. She very much wants a natural birth but there may be complications that could end up with us having a hospital birth (instead of a water birth at the birthing center which is our ideal) and I know that these sort of things further add to PPD often because the mother feels she somehow failed or didn't live up to expectations or that she didn't have the fulfilling birth experience she had expected. Of course I'm hoping for everything to go as perfectly well as can be expected (I've been to enough classes by now I do know NOTHING goes exactly as planned).

Mostly my point in posting this is for advice on what I can do to help her, and to recognize any symptoms or what to be concerned about and what not to. I do know when she's "feeling blue" she wears it visibly. When she gets in a depressed state she often withdraws and often doesn't want the be touched which goes against my own instinct to want to hold and hug her. Right now she gladly accepts my physical affection when she's feeling blue, especially when her mom calls (she doesn't answer, it still makes her blue) and when she thinks about her own childhood. But I remember many times before she was pregnant when she's angrily snapped at me with a pointed "don't touch me" command.

I hope and pray she doesn't go into a bad funk, but I am worried she may be the type to get severe PPD or even PPP (Post Partum Psychosis) so I'm trying to get any and all advice I can for what I can do now so I'm better prepared to cope with it should the need arise in a couple months.

If you suffered PPD what helped you? If you know any good books or articles on the subject, etc.

I am also considering scheduling a session with her therapist myself not to specifically discuss her of course (her confidentiality with the therapist should obviously be maintained) but for coping with my own feelings and ways I can help.

Its a program that offers phone support with a registered nurse who you can talk to about anything that is going on with your pregnancy in between dr. visits. You are assigned 1 nurse who follows up with you and checks in to make sure everything is going ok. I was relieved to find such a great hotline that I could call besides feeling like i'm always bugging my Dr. office. Plus, they send you gifts and information to help you along. The best part is- it's free! Check with your health care provider to see if they offer a program like this!

Hello, I am a new dad and stressed out.

When I was taking my 2 day old baby to the car with my wife and the nurse there was a idling flower delivery van in the area that was just putting a heavy car exhaust smell into the air. My newborn had to inhale this. As soon as we got close to the car we realized this exhaust. I quickly put the baby in the car and took off but my baby boy is so small. It just scares me that he had to inhale the nasty fumes.

I hope I am just going to a paranoid phase but I felt I should of control the situation better to perhaps tell the nurse lets bring the baby back inside until the air clears.

Well, now that we have all cleared into the 2nd trimester what are all the differences you are experiancing?

-- I for certain have started to regain some ability to stay awake past 7 PM :-)
-- Starting a baby bump (1st pregnancy)
-- My boobs are killing me... if I lay on them. Holy crap that took me by surprise! (FYI, lesson learned :-) )
-- I haven't had any super cravings, but boy do those chicken nuggest taste good followed by a big mac
-- I am anxious to start shopping for baby
-- Now the whole "bathroom" breaks every hour are creeping up on me (all when I thought I was doing so well)

We gotz a toof! She sprouted one this past Monday which was also my mother's birthday. My mom said, "What a great birthday gift!!!" It was pretty awesome!

But now... she's in a lot of pain and very restless. What should I get her for teething meds? Should I get the gel, the pills, what? Right now I have tablets that dissolve. The brand is Hyland's, they're 100% natural and she gets two every two hours. She takes them fine, one would even think she might enjoy them! However, she's been rejecting the bottle. I have to get her into a light sleep, readjust her, then she'll eat. It's crazy and complicated. Should I change the nipple to her bottle? Or is it just cuz her gums are sensitive and a change in meds would help her to eat easier?

At least I know why she's been so irritable lately. :]

We are expecting our 2nd boy in March! My husband said I get to pick the first name this time sence he got Nathanial for our first son! I'v picked Marvin sence my Dad's name is Marvin and Im VERY close with him! He picked Ira for the middle! So what do you think of Marvin Ira Farnum?

Hello Girls, my name is Jenna I am 24 and just found out I am expecting! My due date is also estimated to be July 20th. I have to say I am a little worried because I am in my 5/6 week and besides my nipples being just a tiny sore and a couple "gagging" incidents, All the books that I have read say that my boobs should be really sore and I should have horrible morning sickness. I already have a fear of miscarriage and the fact that I have no real pregnant symptoms makes me worry. Should I be worrying about this or am I just a freaked out first time mommy to be?
