Embarrassing confession: I will be seeing New Moon this weekend (and I can’t freakin’ wait!)

By Erin Zammett Ruddy on Friday, November 20, 9:41 am EST

Yes, I’m 31 years old, yes I’m a mom, yes I’m pregnant with number two and yes, I love Edward Cullen. There, I said it. I recently read the Twilight series and devoured every page. I have watched Twilight a million times and can’t get enough. So this weekend I will be joining hundreds of tweens and packing into a crowded theater to watch my favorite vampires (and the hot new werewolves) do their thing.

Just wanted to see if anyone else out there is with me. And if we should, in fact, be a little embarrassed. I will say that while I love the books and movie, I am not interested one bit in the actors and certainly don’t care about their love lives.  And it's not like I have a poster of Robert Pattinson in my room or anything. So maybe that makes me a little less pathetic?

Of course this does make me wonder what I’m going to do when I have a teenage girl and we’re watching the same TV shows?! Or will I outgrow my Gossip Girl habit by then?

Got any other embarrassing confessions? Share them!!!

Nope, not me. I read

Nope, not me. I read Twilight and I was really offended about how hot-and-cold Edward was, and how Bella chased him anyway. Of course, he wanted to stay away to protect her, but I found him so rude it was a turn-off. Then I tried to read New Moon and liked Jacob's support, but Edward had to breeze in at the end of the book. I quit! Funny how we all interpret this information differently but I had some bad dating experiences in the past and the book only reminded me of that. In the Twilight movie, the romance is all light and glowy, and New Moon is supposed to be action-packed, so I don't fault you at all for having a good time! I too wonder if I am going to be watching the same shows as my daughter at some point! Soon I won't be "hip" anymore. I've seen a couple of episodes of 90210 and Glee, and both feature a teen pregnancy storyline, so I mentally try and think about how I would explain these to my daughter.

Erin, did you catch a glimpse of the Today show crowds?

Be glad you're not like those crazed fans :)

I am right there with you being a 31 year old mom Twilight fan. You know they even have shirts for women like us, Twilight Moms. Not that I have one or anything.

I remember when you hadn't
11/20/2009 at 11:22 am
I remember when you hadn't read them yet and your sister was gushing about it to you! Yes, I will be seeing it. All of my female college-age friends have been talking about it... I'm planning on seeing it Monday afternoon as a nice treat for me once I've finished all my work for Thanksgiving break. And I CANNOT wait! Enjoy it - nothing to be embarrassed about!

Not New Moon, but...
11/20/2009 at 11:23 am
I'm not seeing New Moon (haven't yet seen the first Twilight movie...), but I'm seeing The Fantastic Mr. Fox tonight, and then going to a Sesame Street event tomorrow afternoon! It's for adults... like a panel... but still, for someone who doesn't have kids yet (three months to go!), I'm embarassingly fond of children's programming and films. Have fun at the movie! Watch out for all those tween girls. ;-)

I am only half way through
11/20/2009 at 11:37 am
I am only half way through New Moon. I will not see the movie until I finish the book. I still haven't even seen Twilight because I just recentley finished the book and wanted to wait until I was done. I don't see the attraction yet with Robert but I have been told I have to see the movie. Maybe we can watch it together this weekend... :)

I'm with you too. I loved the books and am thinking about reading them over again. I was so obsessed last time about wanting to see what happened next that I did not savor the story as much as I could have. I raced through books 1-4 in no time and had a mild panic attack when I finished one and the next had not arrived from Amazon. I haven't seen Twilight yet, but it is next on my Netflix queue. I am looking forward to watching it once I get my little one in bed one night next week. Enjoy the movie this weekend. I say revel in it - no need to be embarassed.

"Yes, I’m 31 years old, yes I’m a mom, yes I’m pregnant with number two and yes, I love Edward Cullen. There, I said it." Now take your statement, switch "31" for "27", and it's me, verbatim. I'm on round 2 of reading the books. I too feel like I rushed through them the first time. I also can't wait till my Sunday matinee of New Moon. I'm hoping to avoid the screaming 13 yr. olds. Have fun, and don't be ashamed. =)

Ummm...I am 27 and I went to the midnight screaning last night in the city - yep, i waited on line with hundreds of people just to get the first view of the film...pathetic maybe but i don't care - i can't get enough of Jacob and Edward!

I can't wait either.
11/20/2009 at 1:51 pm
I'm 31 too; and I have a 21 month-old daughter and am pregnant with daughter number two. I can't wait to see it either. I was really tempted to go with my twenty-something sister to see it at midnight but just couldn't bear the thought of staying up that late. I am paying for my sister to see it again so that she'll go with me to a 10:30 a.m. showing tomorrow. I bet that you and I won't be the only moms at the theater this weekend!

Me too!

I am 29, pregnant with the second, and so excited that I am seeing it tonight that I can barely stand it! I'm only 4 weeks away and told my husband that I don't care if I go into labor - I'm not leaving until the movie is over!

11/20/2009 at 3:08 pm
I'm almost 36 , mother of 3, and I, too, LOVE Edward Cullen. I can't wait to see the movie and have to admit my evening reading has not been as exciting as when I was reading the Twilight series. Slightly embarrassing but this summer when I was telling a friend she should read Twilight she said that was the series her 10 year old daughter was reading at the moment.

Guilty Pleasure
11/20/2009 at 4:15 pm
Okay, Im 30 and a mother of 2 and I am going today to see New Moon. I am not embarrassed one bit. We should be proud that we still have the ability to enjoy these types of things. I've read the set twice, and would read them again, if my family would let me! I'm surprised that they survived without me when I read them the first two times.

Absolutely!

I am a 34 yr old mother of two, and I LOVE the Twilight Saga! I saw this movie this afternoon and it was AWESOME. I'm not embarrassed one bit. After I saw the movie, and went down to Wal*Mart and bought two New Moon t-shirts. I am totally in love with Edward Cullen and am developing a crush on Rob Pattinson (the first time that I have EVER crushed on a younger guy -- that makes me feel OLD). At the screening I attended, I'd say it was 90% adults, very few children/tweens/teens. The theater was almost full. So, no, you aren't alone. In one of my online mom groups, a group traveled to Chicago to see the film and they certainly aren't tweens. :-)

Sorry Erin, I gotta disagree
11/21/2009 at 12:39 pm
Sorry Erin, I gotta disagree with you on this one. I just finished reading New Moon and found it terrible, terrible, terrible. At the end I found myself thinking, Bella needs to be in therapy for his dependency on Edward. That's not love. Thats obsession. However, at 26, before I got rid of my cable, I was known to watch the Hills and the Real World which I think are almost as bad as being an Edward Cullen fan.

i'm 29 and a mother of one and went to the thursday night midnight showing of twilight and new moon (and the harry potter series) with my college friends. we got together a week before and made our own home made t-shirts to wear to the movie. i loved the books and while i thought bella should have taken some time to see a shrink sometime in new moon i really enjoyed them. i've even gotten my mom and mom in law to read and love them. don't be ashamed of you're love of team edward... unless you're like that 40 year old mom at a convention that asked 17 year old taylor lautner to sign her panties... yikes!

Erin, I also waited in line Friday night to watch New Moon. I am pregnant with our 2nd child and love the books too. I was so excited to go see the movie, my sweet hubby made fun of me but I don't care. I got obsessed with the books and read like all 4 in a week and a half!!! What did you think of the movie?!

Twilight Rocks!
12/2/2009 at 4:01 pm
So, myself and 4 of my friends went to see New Moon Friday 11-20. The line was terribly long and the movie was just not that great. Compared to the books it teeters on just plain bad, but we still had to go check it out. Our ages ranged from 28 to 36 (all Moms) and we had a BLAST going. Well, until the lights went out in the threater and our little tween friends started shrieking. Then I thought this may NOT have been the best idea. Good thing we had a drink before we went! The books were fantastic though and I just read another series that was pretty good. The Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris are also very addictive. The True Blood series on HBO is based off of these novels.
