Sleep has never been our problem. For all the issues we’ve faced with Alex -- MRSA, his severe allergies, his eczema, the fact that he now climbs out of his crib constantly and says F---! a lot -- sleep has never been one of them. He started going through the night on his own at about seven weeks and we haven’t looked back. Now bedtime is around 8 and he wakes up at around 7 and we rarely hear a peep out of him in between -- and he’s never, ever slept in our bed. Needless to say, I get plenty of sleep. But something tells me that’s going to change very soon….
We realized that we needed to get serious about our budget, both due to the economic situation and to the fact that our
pregnancy was a surprise -- we weren’t planning to pay for diapers in the immediate future, let alone establish a college fund. My husband’s work also slowed way down after our honeymoon, and we had to re-evaluate a bit. But there is a bright side to all of this.
On Tuesday I was on ABC News Now’s Parenting Show with Ann Pleshette Murphy. We talked about my decision to have a second baby and the health risks involved. It was a cool interview and I actually don’t hate the way I sounded (as I sometimes do…).
I’m glad
the medical system is there to intervene if things get complicated, but I think
the system has complicated what’s usually a pretty straight-forward process, and
I am personally taking an internal, mental stand against that. Have you shifted your approach to, or attitude
about, your pregnancy midway through?
Yesterday four separate people alluded to how much my life is going to change when this baby is born. That is, when I go from having one rambunctious two-year-old boy to having one rambunctious two-year-old boy plus a newborn baby.
Shawn: "Sure, it helps to know what a mucus plug is, but mostly guys need books that offers simple, streamlined, practical info that doesn't get bogged down with a lot of 'medical diagrams' or 'compound sentences.' Well have I got the book for you, Pops." Updated frequently.
