Valentine’s Day is not even half over and my day is already complete. My husband and I have plans to go to dinner tonight—much needed plans, by the way, since lately our lives have consisted of hanging around the apartment with me on the couch with a heating pad—so I was already happy that we were going to have an official date. But I just got a lovely bouquet of tulips from him delivered to my desk with a card telling me that I’m beautiful (and several other sweet things). I can’t express how nice it is to hear that someone finds me appealing and loveable while I’m the largest I’ve ever been in my life, and probably the grumpiest too. Now that is what a pregnant woman wants to hear. Of course it made me quite teary—with joy, though, this time, so it’s okay. And fortunately, I tucked a Valentine’s Day card in his bag so that he’d find it at the office and feel loved today too.

Even if you think Valentine’s Day is cheesy or commercial, I hope you get to share that lovin’ feeling with someone today—it definitely made me feel better. Read More

The other day I was at the gym on the elliptical trainer, doing my thing, and flipping through the channels on the mini TV on my machine, and up popped the movie Baby Boom. I remember really liking the movie when I saw it in the 80s, and since I'm now fascinated by everything baby-related, I started to watch.

Everything the pregnancy books have said would happen is happening. Okay, maybe not everything is happening, but a lot of things are. To name a few:

*The other night, my husband woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me that I was snoring. Well, he claims that he was nudging me to try to get me to stop, but the end result was that he woke me up. Since pregnancy sometimes causes nasal congestion, I guess now I'm a snorer. Lovely. This will make the perfect addition to my other nightly habits of being startled awake by a sharp leg cramp in my lower calf, and of having to get out of bed to pee 12 times.

Did I mention here that I passed my home glucose testing regime? Six days of recording my eating habits, pricking my finger, dripping blood on test strips... my numbers all came out fine. I don't have gestational diabetes. Phew!

The not-SO-good news is that once I stopped recording my food for review, I started to fall off the wagon regarding eating protein with every carbohydrate, eating less sweet snacks... Oh well.

Today I had a bran muffin and strawberry kefir for a snack, and then fell asleep for an hour. Perhaps that wasn’t a good snack? Or perhaps falling asleep at noon on Monday is par for the course in Tri-3?

There is, and is not, a single road map for this experience. Some people break out, my skin has been astonishingly clear, for the first time in my life. Some people get constipation and hemorrhoids, I (knock on wood!) — so far — have not.

But sleepy, moody... I AM SO SLEEPY and MOODY! Oooof. Not sure where that middle part was where I was supposed to feel like superwoman. Had a day or two like that, but that’s it so far.
