Testing, Testing

By Rachel Rabkin Pechman on Monday, July 16, 7:00 am EDT

I still haven't gotten my period.

I knew I might be late this month because I assumed the vacation we took would throw off my cycle...but I'm pretty late now.

Every time I use the bathroom these days I make a silent wish (before I check my underwear) that I haven't gotten my period. When I see I'm in the clear, I breathe a mini sigh of relief.

I can't help but be a little hopeful. I hardly even want to admit it to myself.

Still, I've been preparing my husband for my period.

"I'm sure I'm getting my period," I said the other night, squeezing my sore boobs. "My stomach feels crampy."

"I'm sorry. We'll try again next time," he said without a second thought.

"But I AM pretty late."

"Well, we'll see," he said, seeming not nearly as anxious as I was.

I didn't want to say out loud that my symptoms could actually be pregnancy symptoms, because that might be hoping for too much.

"Do you think I should I take a pregnancy test, though? I should find out if I can drink tonight." (We were going to celebrate our friend's engagement that night and I knew I would be presented with a flute filled with champagne.)

"It's up to you," he said.

"Well, if I take a test now, it may be too early for the pregnancy hormone to even register on the stick. So I'll wait. But I think I'll pretend to drink tonight, just in case. You drink my champagne when they're not looking."

So that's what we did. My husband drank for the two of us (fortunately I didn't ask for seconds).

And now I can't wait any longer. I'm going to take a test.

If all goes well, you'll find me on Parenting's pregnancy blog, Project Pregnancy, in a few months. Please wish me luck!

Miscarried in Jan. and pregnant now
3/25/2008 at 11:09 am
Has anyone experienced a miscarriage and then turned around and gotten pregnant in a short time frame? My OB said that I wouldn't be ovulating until I had my montly but I never had one after my miscarriage in Jan. and I just found out I'm 8 weeks (the OB is guessing) This took me and my husband by surprise because we were not expecting this soon. Any comments more than welcome.

I had missed it

Wait
7/14/2008 at 1:49 pm
Didn't your doctor make you wait untol you had a complete cycle? I just lost twins and had to have a d&c and my doctor told me to wait for at least one cycle. We are dying to start trying but I haven't had a 'cycle' yet. hmmm...

The day before yesterday I took a pregnancy test and it was a faint positive. To be sure I took another one yesterday and it was negative. I don't know what to believe. Where do you get the digital test from? Who makes it?

Good luck

So crazy how so many women are going through the same thing at the same time! My husband and I just started trying and I am due for my period tomorrow. I have had all of the pregnancy symptoms but when I took tests early (only a few days early like the box said!) they have said no and I've been CRUSHED! He is still hopeful and reminds me that maybe we are pregnant...but there's that part of me that is giving myself a hard time like it won't happen. Pretty ridiculous for someone who just started trying, huh? We have taken a lof of pregnancy tests since we got married over 2 years ago. I've been on meds that could've messed birth control up, and we've tried once before. Always said no so I kind of figure they always will. I know it's ridiculous...I just want to be a mom so bad! It's like I'm living through my friends and family members who are pregnant. I'm still young (I'm 23 and my husband is 27) and my husband and I have been married just a few years- just feeling like I need encouragment that it WILL happen- patience is NOT my forte!

For anyone who has had a miscarriage...how long until your next period? It has been over 8 weeks, I'm not pregnant and I still don't have my period. Should I contact my doctor or is this norml?

Best of luck! I took a test the day my period was due and it was negative. A week later and still no period. I tested again. This time I got a faint positive one. I of course ran out to the store immediately and purchased a digital test which confirmed it. I can't wait to hear the results!!!

Good Luck, I took a digital test 5 days before my period was due and got a positive, the digitals are the best, because there's no guessing if you see a faint line or not. Your in my Prayers.
