Going Public!

By Rachel Rabkin Pechman on Tuesday, September 25, 2:59 pm EDT

The results are in! My genetic counselor called me and told me the great news: I'm not a carrier for any of the Jewish diseases so this pregnancy is full-speed ahead! I'm so relieved, and now I can share the wonderful news that I'm pregnant with everyone in my life — including you, the readers of this blog!

Once I found out I was pregnant, I decided to keep it quiet until I was past the touch-and-go first trimester. But I kept writing entries on my own starting from the beginning of my pregnancy, and now I can finally post them all with the official news that I'm pregnant!

Thank you so much to those of you who read, commented, and sent me good wishes. It meant so much to me. I hope you'll want to keep reading, and I'll look forward to your comments!

Getting Pregnant and PCOS
3/16/2008 at 6:28 pm
Hey all I just wondered if there is anyone who has PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome? My husband and I are going to begin to try to get pregnant and I was wondering if anyone who has this could tell me how hard of a time they had getting prenant and if they had to use fertility drugs? I am worried because I have such a messed up period that I wonder if I ever ovulate. Any advice would be great...

Sperm Question
6/8/2008 at 12:47 pm
I'm not crazy i promise. but i am ready to have another baby but my partner doesnt want one "for awhile". We have 2 that are two and a half years apart so thats what i want the next one to be. I want to be done before "awhile" comes along. So if he pulls out and goes can i get pregnant by wiping it on myself? or if he goes in my mouth can i inject it in myself? just wondering? i had heard stories of both ways.

Still trying...........
6/12/2008 at 12:17 pm
I know how you feel. I have been trying to conceive for almost a year. When I first started trying that is when my periods started to become irregular. They varied in days in between from 26 days to 37 days. I was always 28-30 days for my periods until my husband decided he wanted another child. I went to the OBGYN for my yearly in April and discussed my concerns with her. She said I probly was not ovulating every month. She sent me for a blood work-up (tested all of my hormone levels, thyroid, and pancreas). All of my bloodwork came back normal except for my sugar levels were high, but my insulin levels were fine. I'm a borderline diabetic, and I've know that for two years so that wasn't any new news to me. So, the doctor referred me to a reproductive specialist, I go on the 23rd of this month. I still haven't gotten my period from April 29th. I have had very light spotting for 7 days ( no tampon or pad required, just see it by wiping). I am just overwhelmed not knowing what is wrong with my body. Does anyone else have these same problems?

Concerned!

Am I right to be concerned? I've been trying for seven months to get pregnant and no luck yet. I have three children and never had trouble before, except for a miscarriage between my first two.

Fertility Drugs - Gonal
8/9/2008 at 9:40 am
My husband and I are in our early 40's and began trying to concieve about a year ago. We've done 4 cycles of Clomid and IUI, and as of last night, we're starting a round of injectables - drug name is "Gonal" (RF Pen). It freaks me out a little to have to inject myself, but I gotta do what I gotta do, right? My question is - has anyone tried Gonal (RF Pen) with IUI? I'd love to know your experience with it. Thank you. PS

Tilted Uterus
9/24/2008 at 9:08 am
Hi, I have a tilted uterus and am a bit concerned it will affect my fertility My Dr said it might make things a bit trickier but not impossible. She also recommended laying on my stomach after intercourse instead of my back to help the uterus and cervix align. Has anyone had any experience conceiving with a tiled uterus?

Scared
10/6/2008 at 2:53 pm
Hi I am 27 years old and I have aortic stenosis (heart valve disorder that I was born with) I recently had my first baby without much problem at all even though I was considered high risk. Last week I found out that my heart problem has worsened and my cardiologist has suggested that if I want another child I should start trying as soon as possible because I will soon need open heart surgery. I was wondering if anyone else is or has been in the same boat?

Should we or Shouldnt we
9/10/2008 at 6:35 pm
My husband and I have been together 16 years and marrried 14. We do not have children and the thought of children never crossed or minds. Now, I am 36 and he is 40. The other day for the first time we brought up kids. I guess I should say that i brought up kids. I just put it out there. I am still really not sure if I want child(ren). My husband is and always has been a go with the flow kind of guy. If it makes me happy then so be it. I know that if we had a child he would be a wonderful and responsible father. I think that my friends are all have children or have had children; and every tells me what great parents we would be. I do think about being a parent. Especially around the Holidays or when my husband and I are just sitting around the house which is often. I never thought about if we are actually ready to have a child. Do you know if you are ever ready. If so, when? I guess I have always been waiting for that sign. Signed Should I?

Cramping?
10/23/2008 at 11:01 am
Hi. My husband and I just started trying to conceive and I'm due for my period in 7 days, however for over a week I've been getting light cramps. No bleeding yet. I'm wondering for those of you that had the cramping and bleeding and WERE pregnant, did you notice this earlier than you would normally get cramps, and was it worse or less than normal? I'm typical like a clock, IF I get cramping before my period it's usually in spurts and only once or twice...this has been daily off and on.

Question: Clomid Have 2-1/2 yr. old a starting Clomid
4/16/2009 at 3:49 pm
Can anyone give me some reasoning, answers, advice about already having one child and can't seem to get pregnant again to have one more. Or I'd be happy to just talk with someone who is going through the same thing as I am. My husband and I both have received a clean bill of health but we haven't been able to get pregnant since last April (misscarriage). My OB suggested we go to a infertility doctor and so we did the doctor there said she advise us since we are both healthy and nothing wrong to start the Clomid and then be inseminated. We had a good chance with that. I am having mixed emotions about this procedure and I think I'm more scared of having twins instead of just one child. We would love to have twins but we could not financially afford them. We want to give our 2- 1/2 yr. old son a sibling so he isn't by himself growing up. Anyone who just wants to talk to give me some advise please feel free to email me at harley-68@hotmail.com.

Congrats and best wishes

I read here from time to time, so I can imagine how happy you are. Many congratulations from my side, especially since I found some updated infos from your mom-to-be blog. I'm truly happy that everything went fine! Enjoy the wonderful moments of a growing child and being a parent :-)

PCOS and pregnancy
3/26/2008 at 10:51 pm
I have PCOS as well, and I have just started trying. It's been a little over two months now, and no luck, although I have to bear in mind that on average, most couples take around a year to conceive! An annoying thought! But I find that making sure I keep track of when I get my period, even if I don't have one for a while, it keeps me distracted, and that helps. I am seeing a OBGYN at the moment about tracking ovulation, to make sure I am ovulating when I DO have a period, and this is done by a series of urine samples. The doctor will give you 8 sample bottles. At the start of your next period, the first day of bleeding, you fill one of them, date it and put your name on it and D.O.B etc, and then you freeze it. Then you do the exact same thing on the same day the next week, like, say you do the first sample on Monday 1st, you will do the next on Monday 8th etc etc. There is another test you should have done before you get pregnant, which is a blood test to check your hormone levels. You can request this from your GP. The OBGYN will prabably make an appointment about 2 months after you first see them to discuss any medication, if you both feel you need it, or if there is significant cause. Like Clomid, which I noticed one of the other ladies is on. Maybe you could tell us more about it? xxxxxx

About a year ago I was told
10/6/2008 at 2:48 pm
About a year ago I was told that I had a tilted uterus and my Obgyn also suggested that I lay on my stomach after intercourse. She said that I would have a slightly less chance of getting pregnant each month compared to the average woman. Well it is now a year later and we have a two month old!! So needless to say it wasn't that difficult for us to conceive. I honestly believe that laying on my stomach helped. Good luck to you!!

Hello, I have PCOS and want to get off the pill (that I've been on for 15 years, and have no idea if i even get a period on my own) I spoke with my doctor and she advised me not to get off the pill until I wanted to start trying to get preggo...I would like to start in September, and she advised me to get off the pill in June and wait 3 months...Any suggestions? I really feel in my heart I should get off the pill sooner then later?????

Yay! I'm so happy for you. I don't blame you, the 1st time I got pregnant, I told everyone and miscarried a week later at 7 weeks. The 2nd time we kept it dlow and after we saw the quants going up, we told them. We tried for 18 months before getting pregnant the 1st time, I'm so glad you didn't have any trouble! Your in my prayers, I look forward to your future posts. Congrats:-)

TTC myself!!!!
2/17/2008 at 8:21 am
Hi Kris, I just thought I'd introduce myself as well, my name is Mandy. My husband and I have been TTC since last June and sadly no luck:( I am one of those gals who do NOT have normal periods, I actually don't get mine without being on the pill so it makes things much more difficult! I am working on taking my 4th round of Clomid nex month.......maybe March will be both our special months!!! I'm sorry, what is P.S.O.S??? I'm new at these things myself and don't know all the abbreviationes??? If you need to chat I'd love to help you along the way. I find chatting to other women who KNOW what its like with fertility issues is very helpful. Goodluck and *baby dust* to you!!! Mandy

I know how you feel when it
3/13/2008 at 9:06 am
I know how you feel when it comes to getting pregnant. Me and my husband tried for a year and finally i went to the doctor and she did some blood work and found out i have this thing call Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (which means i wasnt having periods so there was almost no way we would be able to get pregnant). So the doctor but me on clomid and the first time i used it i got pregnant with twins. So i know what you are going throu, i wish you the best of luck.
