So Many Photos, So Little Patience

By Sarah at Parenting on Wednesday, December 17, 6:29 pm EST

I have thought a great deal about photo albums and frames lately. This is because I got married this year, and I’m feeling the pressure to display my photos in the Most Perfect Album and make sure family members get copies of their favorite photos, preferably in the Most Meaningful Frames. I imagine it’s not unlike the guilt new moms feel about making a baby book and keeping up with grandparents’ insatiable desire for new pictures.

Thankfully, my best friend is a multi-talented fifth grade teacher/master scrapbooker, so she is going to save my sorry self and help me put together my album, with this new PicFolio album from Creative Memories. It has slots for photos, so there isn’t too much danger of me messing up this Very Important Heirloom with a misguided glue stick. (Or adhesive dots, whatever it is you clever crafty folks use.) I think it would work really well as a baby book for a semi-crafter like me, since you could keep adding photos and as many or as few cute scrapbooky doo-dads as you have time to include.

The other new photo album I’ve come across that’s different from anything else is this Take Your Pix board book photo album.

What a great idea! Babies love looking at faces and they love chewing on books, so now they can gnaw on Grandma and Grandpa (which you can take a picture of and then send to them—everybody wins!). But I don't think I'm done obsessing over creative ways to deal with photos—wedding or otherwise. Anyone got any good ideas?

What I do with Photo's

I'm a scrapbooker, but I have become addicted to shutterfly.com. You upload photo's to the site and make books. It will make one for you (not so great) or you can do each page your self... you pick the background and how many pic's on each page and you can put in text. Then you can get books printed of all sizes and prices. You can go hardback or soft but either way the pages are like real books. I send a book every 3 months to my in-laws back east of my son (8 months old). It cost me about $15.00 and they go insane over them. They think that I am amazing for making these awesome books (if they only got how easy it was) and they really like them cause they don't end up with loose pictures that they have to buy albums for and they get a story of what the pictures are about. I actually started making myself a hard bound version so I can give them to my son one day along with the scrapbooks. But when people come over and see them on my coffee table they are really amazed. I'm in the process of uploading all my parents old photos from generations past and I'm going to make an heirloom book for all of us in the family. Then everyone gets the same thing and there is no issue of they got more than me or whatever. And the pictures are on paper that is never going to fade or get ruined so they will last for ever and best yet each picture has the history of it right on the page so no one ever says who are these old photos of. So Shutterfly.com the best thing ever. I even believe it's part of the parenting privliges program as well.

Boardbook Albums was a great baby shower gift

Thank you for this article! My husband and I were trying to find a unique baby shower gift for our friend and came across this page. It turns out the board book album is a nice little gift that would have taken a lot longer to make if we tried to convert a thick book into a photo album. Now someone just needs to have www.boardbookalbums.com create a black board book so we can put our wedding photos in them and leave it on our coffee table! Great ideas! Thanks Sarah! You're a lifesaver!
