Kate Gosselin's Cookbook: Will You Buy It?

By Lauren at Parenting.com on Monday, June 1, 3:44 pm EDT

Kate Gosselin's first two books, Eight Little Faces and Multiple Blessings made it to the best seller list, but do you think you'll buy her cookbook, Love Is in the Mix: Making Meals into Memories, scheduled to come out in October?

The book is still in utero but it's already causing a stir. Kate's getting flack for plagiarizing some of the recipes from product boxes and magazines. That part doesn't bother me; few of us are bonafide recipe developers, and anyone who cooks pulls ideas from things they've read about or eaten elsewhere. But can a woman who prepares food for a small army three times a day really be creating meals that “make memories?” If I had 10 kids, they’d probably get cereal half the time.
Do you think Kate’s new book will be a helpful resource for moms looking for some kid-pleasing meals? Do you think you’ll buy it?

No, i won't buy it. She is an insanely over the top organic only cook that goes out to farms to buy her own meat. Really, she is on the far end of the spectrum when it comes to meal preparation for a family. She says that she does the organic food because it's a gift she's giving her children (their superb health, I presume), so I can see how her title would be "Love in the mix..." but I have twins and let me tell you I have no time! I'm a SAHM and if I had the extra time she has to make everything organic and from scratch, I would never play with my children or get any other chores done. We make our own memories everyday, I don't need to learn to cook meals a certain way to make memories.

The only time you will find me in a book store is if a really interesting series comes out that is tied to a well known story or movie. Other then that I gain all my reading materials from the library or borrowed from friends. Because of this I probably wont buy it but I still want to read it! I think buying local and organic is a great thing. And it is not out of reach, nor does it take any more time to do. Feeding your family good and healthful foods is just one of the ways you can show your love and keep your health all at the same time. Also keep in mind that buying local and organic is environmentally friendly. As a society, overall, I think we have gotten 'too far from the farm'. Organic items can be found right in your local mega-mart. It can be a bit more expensive...just watch for sales. The other day I bought a box of organic pasta (10 cents more then the other stuff) as well as a jar of organic sauce. On sale the sauce was about 50 cents cheaper. My ground meat came from my local farmers market and was more then a dollar a pound cheaper then the regular grocery store!! This wasn't any more out of reach then something non-organic and how long did it take to make? I'm sorry I didn't come up with this idea on my own. You go kate!

Kate just has the upper hand on a subject we should all be well versed on. Anyone who thinks lightly of the need for organic food for themselves and especially their children is looking for trouble. Just wait, you'll pay the price in health costs in coming years. I you have dealt with ADD/ADHD, Behavior Problems, Fatigue, Depression, etc, etc, you have food sensitivities. I finally listened to the facts. I have been organic, out of absolute necessity, for almost 10 years when I found out my 5y/o had Mercury, Lead and Cadmium poisoning. That lead us to find all his food sensitivities as well as my daughters and my own. We now thrive with no doctors visits for viral attacks in almost as many years. Granted we do get, like Kate, un-organics when the Holidays come around or as a last resort. But as a rule we opt for our ever-present snack stash instead of eating the processed versions or faux-food as we like to call it. It's better than headaches, behavior problems and the myriad problems faux-food causes. Kudos Kate for your effort! It is a constant learning process and Kate is doing her part for her family!
