Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Newsletters

GOOP

Why did Gwyneth Paltrow decide to name her recently launched email newsletter "Goop”? I keep going over it in my head trying to piece together a phrase the acronym could be based on, like “Gwyneth Opines On Preservatives, or Gwyneth Only Orders Penguins” It’s challenging.

I subscribed to Goop as soon as I found out about it. Mostly, it makes me feel bad about myself. So far, Gwyneth (we are now on a first name basis) has told me to avoid coffee, white foods, sugar, and dairy, and to sleep and exercise more. Well, DUH. If I did all those things I’d probably look like her. But I am a mere mortal.

Gwyneth is a busy mom who recommends developing a personal uniform to make it easier to get respectably dressed in the morning. I think that’s a great idea, even though she looks a little goofy in these photos, and I can’t afford Christian Louboutin boots. She’s not very successful at sounding like “one of us.”

She doesn’t really need this newsletter to inspire us to try and be more like her. That’s the point of celebrity – everyone wishes they were a little more Hollywood, and they can’t be.

This advice is totally incompatible with my life! (?) If I gave up coffee, I wouldn't be able to function, let alone adopt a "personal uniform" and give up white foods. Also, I'd get into a lot of fist fights.
