Etsy Watch: Little Girl Dresses

By Ganda at Parenting.com on Thursday, December 4, 2:40 pm EST

I'll admit it -- I can't resist little girl fashion.  Sometimes, I find myself involuntarily squee-ing over the fabulous ensembles our style editor Christina pulls together. (Like this pink bubble dress with shiny boots -- why oh why don't they make those kicks in adult sizes?)

I try not to force my 20-month-old niece, Sadie, to be my little dress-up doll.  After all, she grows out of everything so quickly -- by the time you finish reading this post, she'll probably have moved on to the Juniors department.  But hey, it's the holiday season. It's okay for me to splurge on an adorable outfit she might only wear a couple of times, right?

So Sadie, Auntie is sorry, but SHE JUST CAN'T HELP HERSELF. Here are the outfits I might have to make you wear for fifteen minutes while we try and get you to sit still for the holiday card photo.

Remember, lots of Etsy items are one-of-a-kind, so if the piece you like goes out-of-stock, click on the seller's name to find similar cool stuff in their shop.

This bright reversible pinafore ($24.00) by Etsy seller Lassie Girl pops with color.  I love the chartreuse on turquoise combo.  Add some bright leggings and you'll be able to spot your little girl from across the sandbox.  And if you get tired of one side (or have an accidental spill down the front), just flip it and show off the matching diagonal stripe pattern on the other side.

velour overalls

What's snugglier than a chubby little kid?  A chubby little kid in soft velour.  These Matryoshka overalls with eggplant velour ($45.00) are based on a pattern that Etsy seller katrinakaye's mom used in the 70s.

mod dress

Etsy seller FaithWorks4U's mod black and white dress ($48.00) has all the perfect Twiggy details, from the pilgrim collar to the pink buttons.  It's both modest and a little sassy, which is the look I like best on little girls.

Corduroy dress

Do you know that amazing Dolly Parton song, "Coat of Many Colors"? Sewing every piece with love, she made my coat of many colors that I was so proud of.  That's what Etsy seller aprilscott's beautiful patchwork corduroy dress ($35.00) makes me think of. It would be gorgeous with a long-sleeved white t-shirt, some white tights and brown Mary Janes.

poppy dress

Etsy seller allthenumbers makes this unique and sweet red poppy dress ($32.00). I love the zigzag appliqué stitching over the surprising mix of toile and paisley prints.  If you really want to splurge, you should go to her shop and check out the custom quilts with the same modern poppy design.  They're breathtaking.

In Love with Little Girls Classic Dresses

I agree it is hard to stay away from cute dresses for the little girls in your life. When my daughter was 23 mos she was working on a parenting magazine cover set in AZ and wasn't cooperating in the swimsuit, so the stylist gave me a dress to change her into hoping they would get at least one shot of her (which was still a no go) the dress was the prettiest light blue and white polka dot and the first thing I asked was who was the designer and the photo editor said Mini Boden, so your the type of mom that buys these little dresses. I am always dressing her up in the classics and her agent is always telling me I have a real life doll in a real life dollhouse. I never looked at it like that , but it is true! I knew that a few months from the shoot that I would be on the hunt for this dress in my favorite boutiques! Great job to the parenting staff for always having such stylish clothes for the little ones!

Speaking of cute dresses...

I love these vintage dress patterns for little girls that we featured on our site awhile ago. I don't have a little girl, but I want these dresses for me! I'm going to try to convince my mom to reconstruct the patterns in larger sizes and then sew them for me. Think she'll go for it?
