That's so cute! He sounds like a lot of fun. :) It's neat to watch a developing sense of humor. My daughter likes to go over to something she knows she's not supposed to touch, look at me, and grin. If you leave the baby gate open at the bottom of the stairs, she goes up a stair or two and waits for you to discover her. As soon as you head towards her, she chortles with glee and hurries up the rest of the stairs until you capture her. By the way, my husband and I came up with a great solution for babyproofing the bookshelves. We, too, have books, DVDs, and VHS tapes that we didn't want her pulling out and ripping or breaking. So we bought plexiglass and got it cut to the right size at Lowe's, and also got these little brackets that we screwed into the shelves. The plexiglass slides down, held by the brackets, until it sits on the floor (we'll eventually attach a little edge at the bottom so that it sits a few inches higher. When we want a book, we slide the plexiglass up and out. The plexiglass only covers the bottom half of the shelves, from about three-year-old reach downwards, so books nearer the top of the shelf are readily accessible. If you feel like being industrious and want to babyproof the bookshelves, I'd be glad to give you more detail! I looked *everywhere* online and couldn't find anything about how to babyproof bookshelves, but my daughter is a book-ripper and I didn't want to lose my poor books!
