Hi! I am 29 and I am in my 5th month of pregnancy. Back in 1991, I had 2 Herrington rods placed in my back to correct scoliosis.
With my first child (3 1/2 years ago), my back didn't bother me...however, with this one, I can get NO relief. I am not gaining too much weight, everything is going well. My OB gave me Tylenol 3's and I am doing physical therapy...but NOTHING is helping! The bottom part of my spine is curving into a "c" and has been for the last few years.
Anyone out there pregnant and have scoliosis? How did you deal with the pain?

God bless!

I have scoliosis too! I didn't have rods put in but I did wear a brace for many years. I recommend trying a chiropractor. My insurance even covered it and it helped a lot with the back pain. I would just make sure they are trained to work with pregnant women.

Hi,

I also have Harrington rods in my lower back, and a few years before I got pregnant, had to have physical therapy. My therapist used a t.e.n.s. unit on my lower back and it was h-e-a-v-e-n. So when I developed back pains while pregnant, it's the first thing I asked about. Turns out, it's not really tested for pregnant women under 36 weeks, so I opted against it. (I have heard of midwives using them during labor though.)

Ultimately, I just took safe doses of otc pain reliever, laid on a heating pad, and toughed it out. Next time, if it happens, I think I'm going to give acupuncture a try. I've heard a lot of good things from my pregnant friends about it.

Wish I had some actual advice for you! Hope you feel better...
