Is it normal for a grandmother to want to go to her grandchild's first day of kindergarten? I have never heard of this happening - and was caught completely off guard when my mother-in-law informed me that she wants to be there for my child's first day of kindergarten. I personally think that this is overstepping the boundaries a bit. I mean, she already sent her kids off to school and now it's my turn to send mine off. It should be a special bonding experience between me and my child. Right? Or am I overreacting? Did you (or do you plan on) having your parents go with you to drop them off? I don't want to start any troubles (which I know it will do if I tell her that I would prefer her not be there) but I really feel that she shouldn't be there. I really don't want her there. What should I do?

I can relate completely. My advice is to tell your mother-in-law that the school only wants the child and his parents to be there the first day. Besides all this your son may be nervous on the first day and not want alot of attention and fan fare. Low-key may be the best and hopefully she'll respect your wishes, because after all your the MOM and the boss in your child's life (at least for now)
