Hi all! I'm new here, but not a new mom (I have an 8yo son). I wanted to go cloth with my first, but wasn't educated enough to make it a viable option...I chose the off the shelf Gerber's and wound up using the whole lot as burp/changing cloths! Anyhoo, I've found some great options and wanted to know if any of you (especially those that work outside the home) are cloth diapering and what types you have in your stash. I've heard great things about some diapers from ebay, so any inside help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I use cloth diapers and have tried a lot of options out before I've gotten to where I am now. I currently use primarily adjustable BumGenius all-in-ones. So far I've been pretty happy with them. They're fairly expensive at the outset, but the value will be fantastic since they grow with the child (they have adjustable snaps).

My only complaint with the adjustable BumGenius all-in-ones is that when the baby is small, the diaper is kind of bulky. If I had a greater income, I'd probably go with all-in-ones at different sizes, from x-small to small to medium and so on.

I did start out with Indian (not Chinese) prefolds and different kinds of covers, and this was very economical and worked really well. However, if you're not a SAHM, the time factor in using these is probably preventative.

I haven't experienced any leaks yet in any different kinds of cloth diapers, even with some big blowouts.

I do recommend the site cottonbabies.com. They have a lot of information that really helped me make my decisions about the best types of cloth diapers for me.

My DH and i both work outside the home and we still use cloth. we do prefolds with covers and contrary to popular belief we do not spend every waking hour cleaning poop off diapers. We use dry bag storage meaning a plastic lined bag in a trash can where we put the dirty diapers. if there is poop then you gotta get the solid stuff off first which is simple since we use liners that catch most of it and anything else we just wipe off with the used wipes. If she destroys the diaper then its a bit time consuming with swishing in the toilet but thats maybe once every week or two. The covers can be re-used if they aren't dirty so we have 4 covers and 24 prefolds. We use disposables for daycare and out and about days so we wash diapers once a week. They do not smell up the house at all just a bit raunchy when you are putting them into the wash but not any worse that taking out the diaper trash. we wash them in hot water with a presoak cycle and an extra rinse and they come out super fresh. a touch of white vinegar in the rinse cycle will make them soft as well as make them resiliant to yeast.

when i was first looking into CDing this site helped a lot: www.greenmountaindiapers.com

Good luck!

I've checked both sites as well as others and I'm sure we can do it this time! I've added some infant all in one CDs from Kushies to my registry since most everything I come across says the one size in any brand is less than ideal for newborns...I figure worse case scenario, we'll do disposables until the baby's 10-12lbs. Thanks for the feedback ladies!

hey, i just wanted to share what ive learned. i tried the kushies out, and i personally hated them, they always leaked for me. i have mostly bum genius, and i do love them, they work great and they are so adorable, but my one complaint is that i hate the velcro, it really does not work as good as it used to. i recently got a tiny tush elite diaper, and it is just like the bum genius except it snaps closed.

also night time used to be terrible for my son, he is a very heavy wetter, and i have found the only thing that works for night time it the mother ease brand. its the cotton diaper and the cover, they absorb so much, i think it said like 13 ozs or something. and i only use them at night because they are so bulky!

anyways i hope this helps!

Hi there, I'm a SAHM and we do cloth diapers. We use the prefolds and Imse Vimse covers, but utilize a service in our area. If you live in a larger metro area, you might do a Google search for diaper services in your area. They charge about the same as what you'd spend on disposables and most pick up/drop off the diapers once a week. We toss our dirties in a Simple Human pail and don't notice any smell with it. Good luck! :)

and the gerbers are completely not usable as diapers. i am a huge fan of prefolds now they just take a bit of getting used to. the fuzzi bunz pockets are also good - i think you need 36 in total for laundry purposes

I exclusively use cloth diapers as well. I do have a good deal of BG 3.0 as well as BG organic AIO but also take a look at swaddlebees, I got a great deal on some pockets at the swaddlebeeoutlet $9 each with inserts, they are wonderful I also have some swaddlebees ecconappis and blubery pocket diapers, they are my favorite. Also all OS diapers.

I am selling 10 brand new kushies aio's for $100 -- they have been washed but not used.

I actually bought a diaper pattern and modified it to make my own AIOs. My goddaughter is using them now and her parents love them. My SO and I plan on using them unless we go on long trips without access to our own washer. I just feel kinda guilty using someone else's wahser for my child's dirty diapers. We're even going to set up our second washer and dryer just for baby use.

I've debated on selling them online while I'm home with the baby but I'm not sure of the market...

Oh, the website that I got my pattern off of is www.newconceptions.com. It also has some great information about using cloth.
