I'm excited to see some familiar names on here from the TTC thread. This is my second pregnancy and it's already completely different. I have all day sickness and constant headaches, and oh the mood swings. My poor husband! I havea dr's appt Thurs. and they may be doing an ultrasound because of the iud that i had can occasionally cause problems with pregnancies. I'll update you when I know more. Good luck to all of you and I'm so glad we can be on this journey together.

Rou-Why are you already scheduled for a c-section?
Book-Sorry to hear about the sickness & headaches! That must be rough. Keep us updated on the appointment.

As for myself, I've had a couple of headaches and only felt nauseous once but I've read that it can pick up after 6 weeks and since I'm only 5 right now I'm not going to get my hopes up for an easy pregnancy.
Has anyone told anyone yet?

Hey Ladies! I just had my first dr.'s appointment. Everything went fine. They didn't do an ultrasound, but I do have one scheduled for next Friday. With my DS, I was almost 20wks before they did a sonogram! My dr. said that since I have a tilted uterus that he couldn't give me any sort of due date estimation, so I guess I'll just have to wait until next week.

I switched my prenatal vitamins and that seems to be helping with the nausea, but I still have the constant headaches. Anyone else experiencing any symptoms?

vixen6981
08-13-2009, 04:54 PM
Rou-O! So is it true that once you have a c-section you can never deliver vaginally again?? I'd heard it somewhere but don't know if it's true.

Book-How exciting! So what all does a tilted uterous do? Aren't you at about 7 or 8 weeks?? I know you found out just before me but I can't remember how long before.
My first doctors appointment isn't until Sept 4 but I had gone in and done all the blood work and stuff right after I found out. I don't have an ultrasound until 18 weeks. Which isn't until November!! Seems like forever!!

As for symptoms, I'm having the same problem as Rou; my face has broken out like crazy!! My breasts HURT at night and they are getting HUGE!! Since I'm already a DD+ not pregnant I'm not sure I'm going to be able to find a bra and I'm already popping out of the ones I own :( I'm still not having any nausea which I'm not going to complain but I am having wicked headaches! Every night at about 7 or 8 I can feel them coming on and by the time I go to bed I'm in tears... I have a massage tonight so I hope that helps!!

Vixen-I'll be 7 wks tomorrow. A tilted uterus just refers to the position of the uterus and it makes it harder to do pelvic exams, etc. I never had a tilted uterus until after I had my son, so I'll have to remember to ask if that can cause any problems with delivery. A massage sounds simply wonderful. Hope it helps with your headaches.

I'm looking into having prenatal chiropractic care. Has anyone else done it before? I had a cousin who did for one of her pregnancies and she swore by it. It's not covered by my insurance so I'll have to price it and see how expensive it is.

So far I've been really lucky with the acne. I've been told I have the pregnant "glow". My breasts are very sore and swollen too, but I haven't grown out of any bras yet. Thankfully I do have some from my last pregnancy.

Has anyone else started buying maternity clothes yet? I was on vacation last week and there was a motherhood outlet and I just couldn't help myself.

Is anyone else as tired as I am? I feel like i'm about to fall over at my desk and go to sleep. Yesterday, I accidently fell asleep for an hour and then went to bed at 9:30. I exercise regularly so I really thought that would help with my energy...

CLRybka: I'll be praying for you. Try not to stress (advice from my friend here who went through the same thing and is now 16 weeks along!)

I am on my second now, due April 6, 2010, but I haven't had a doc appt yet so we'll see...
This one is totally different. The mood swings are outrageous! And my boobs haven't done anything yet (boo!). The headaches are wicked (talk to you doc but I have given in to Tylenol and rubbing ice on my forehead. In the end, once it gets to migraine status it is better to take Tylenol than to suffer. Really. Oh, and caffeine can actually bring them on). My appetite isn't very good and yet I have already gained 2 pounds! What is that about? And my stomach has decided to show already. Grrr. Oh, well. Beautiful baby on the way!

Latech-I am definitely exhausted too! That just means that your little bean is taking up all of your energy to grow, so I take it as a good sign.

CLR-I have an ultrasound on Friday as well. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Prgnantmama- I have had the constant headaches too. I think when I go back to the doctor on Friday, I'm going to mention them.

I have to keep a snack by my bed to eat as soon as I get up so that I don't get sick. Today breakfast was Cheez-its. Whatever works right?

CLR-sorry to hear about the miscarriage! That must have been very hard on you! Good for you for staying positive!! Try not to stress out though, it's one of the hardest thing on your body. Yea, I thought I had heard the heartbeat could be heard at 8-9 weeks but I could be wrong. This website: http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancycalendar/l/blpregcalc.htm says the first heartbeat date. Kinda a neat site.
Prgnant-Wow, you're showing already? Are you a size 2? :) I had lunch with a friend today who is 12 weeks and she's showing quite a bit already.
Latech-I am a little lethargic but not as tired as I thought I'd be.
Book-Still having nasty mornign sickness eh? That sucks!!

Well, I'm starting to wonder... I don't have morning sickness, my headaches have subsided and I'm tired but not exhausted..... I had headaches for a while but after I had a massage they went away (thankfully). I would be concerned if I had morning sickness and then it went away but it hasn't happened that way... I do however have a constant plugged nose, I'm not sick and I've read it can be a symptom. My boobs are SUPER sore and have grown at least a cup size already. Anyways, all this rambling... I'm not sure if I should be concerned about the lack of some symptoms or not... I havent had any severe cramping or bleeding so I think I should just chill out... sorry for babbling, I think I just needed to write it all out and realize I was stressing about nothing :)

I have my 1st doctors appointment on Sept 4 and I REALLY can't wait to hear the heartbeat!!!!!!

CLR-I read somewhere that cramps are normal (cant' remember where). Hopefully the spotting isn't anything serious! I'll keep you in my prayers :)
Monkey Mama-WELCOME!! This is my first pregnancy also so we'll be newbies together :) If you have questions or concerns, write them down, it usually makes me feel better!
Rou-Thanks for not scaring us ;) I think I'd agree with you and do a c-section as well, probably easier and safer that way.
Book-Are you getting excited for your ultrasound on Friday.

As for me, I'm feeling quite a bit better today. Not stressing out as much today :) I did have my first experience with not being able to eat a food though, I had a garlic turkey sandwich for lunch and I couldn't even eat a bite.

Vixen- I am getting very excited about the u/s on Friday, but I'm also nervous! I'm trying not to worry and hopefully everything is ok.

Rou- I don't know if morning sickness can be triggered by seasickness or not. I would hope that if you could handle it before then it won't be a problem now. I was on vacation last week and my suggestion for the heat is either to bring an easy-up or a large umbrella. We had two of the large easy-up tent things and that helped me a lot. The boardwalk smells didn't bother me, but then again everyone is different. The only smell that bothered me was when we went to an all you can eat seafood buffet. That was a little overwhelming. Good luck and I hope you have a good vacation!

I feel like if I am going to be sharing this personal and exciting journey with all of you, maybe you should know a little more about me. My name is Nikki, I'm 24 and I live in VA just outside of DC. I am a SAHM and have a 2 1/2 year old son named Jake. My DH is in the Army but gets out this Apr. Then it's on to job hunting in the private sector. This is my second pregnancy, but I think I'm more nervous this time than I was with my DS!

Ruth- Hey! Another one from the TTC thread. April '10 must be lucky for all of us. Now if we can just get Amanda on this thread!

I had my ultrasound today. They did change my due date to April 4th. The doctor said everything looked good and the baby had a really strong heartbeat. I was able to see it and hear it! Thank goodness there was only one! I do feel much better about telling people now.

Baby #2 is due around the end of April. I figured April 28th, but I havent' seen the doctor yet so we'll see what due date they give me. Babies don't follow due dates anyways, so I'm just going to stick with the end of April :) So excited!!!! Also very nervous about miscarriage and praying hard that I will make it through the first trimester. I had a lot of morning sickness with my first and I'm already getting sick with this one. I actually welcome morning sickness because I want some sign that I really am pregnant since the first trimester, you aren't showing yet and you can't feel the baby move yet either.

Congratulations to all the other April Mamas out there!!! Praying that everything goes well with your pregnancies and we'll all deliver healthy babies next spring!

I went to the doctor on the 19th to confirm that I'm pregnant for the first time! I'm currently projected for April 15th. I am a bit anxious though; I don't have my first pre-natal appointment until September 15th! Since this is my first, I have a lot of questions I really want ask. I know there's tons of info on the web, but it always helps calm the nerves to talk to a doctor.

Rou- I told my parents that I was pregnant when I was on vacation as well. I knew that I would never be able to keep it a secret if we were sharing a house for a week. I bought my son a T-shirt that said "I'm going to be a big brother" and bad my mom get him dressed. She literally fell on the floor. My dad thought that I was joking. Once they got over the shock though, I was glad I told them that way.

Not much to update on me. I go back to the doctor Sept. 10th for just a routing check up but they said at that point they should be able to hear the heartbeat with the Doppler machine so I'm excited about that. I still have those headaches, but the doctor said that it was normal and for me not to cut all of my caffeine out. The nausea is lessening more and more but I am still exhausted! Hope everyone has a good week!

Hey, all--congrats to everyone! My (tentative) due date is April 29th, although my first appointment is Sept. 17th. I'm a little nervous because I've been having "spotting" a little this week... Not to be TMI girl, but we've had sex three times this week, and the day after each time, there will be a point when I go to the bathroom and I'll see a little deep red/brown blood when I wipe. I've read that that can happen after sex, and that 30-40% of women will have a little bleeding, but this is my first pregnancy and I don't know if I should be worried or not. Of course, it's a Saturday, so now that I want to ask a doctor about it, everything's closed (unless I want to go to the emergency room, and I don't think the situation warrants that). I called the "nurse hotline" through my health insurance plan, and they told me to wait until Monday and call my doctor! And of course, I have to go back to school (I teach) on Monday, which means it'll be trickier for me to get in to see someone because I'll actually be, you know, working. Grr!! Has anyone else had this experience? Should I be worried?

Thanks, Ruth. And yay, April 29th!

Right after I posted I found an "after-hours" call line for questions and emergencies, and while I wasn't able to talk directly to my doctor, I talked to one of the doctors in her practice. She said pretty much what you did--as long as it looks like "old blood," remains light, and isn't accompanied by pain and/or cramping, it's pretty normal. She said it could be brought on by intercourse, constipation (as in, if you're working REALLY HARD to poo), or even strenuous exercise. She gave me a couple things to look out for that would be worth making an appt. over, but otherwise told me I could wait for my first check up and still be ok.

It definitely makes me feel better, but it's still a little nervous-making, you know? I might have to ban regular intercourse for a bit until I feel less worried about it. Poor husband. (And poor me, I suppose!)

Hello everyone!
HOpe everyone's feeling ok.
Ruth-Yea, I haven't had much interest in sex. Hope that changes soon!!

Vixen- Let us know how your dr.'s appt. goes today.

I'll be 10 weeks on Sunday and I'm already in maternity pants and I've gone up a cup size! With my first I didn't start showing until I was almost 5 months. I guess it's kind of exciting to be showing so soon, but I really didn't want to tell anyone but immediate family until after the first trimester, but I don't that's going to be possible anymore. I have my next dr.'s appt. on the 17th. My queasiness is lessening as are my headaches. Anyone else starting to feel a bit more energized?

Okay, so I just had a fun morning. Because my spotting continued for more than a couple of days, my RN had me come in for a very early ultrasound. She warned that the baby might be too small to be able to see its heartbeat. So, me and the Husband go in, she pokes around, she does the ultrasound, and she says that everything looks exactly the way a normal pregnancy should at this stage and I shouldn't be concerned.

Except...

There are two yolk sacs.

Now, there are two main reasons she came up with:
1) My uterus could be shaped more like a mitten than a pear, hence the appearance of a second bubbly-area.

2) It could be twins.

Gah! We have no family history of twins! WTF!! So, we scheduled a follow-up ultrasound for next week, because at that point the baby(ies?) should be more clearly visible. She DID say there's a possibility the second yolk could be absorbed (which is common), and we only caught it because we came in for our first visit so early. Still...the idea of twins is RIDICULOUSLY exciting!

Hello all!

Well, I sent to my doctors appointment on Friday. Was very disappointing since we didn't get to hear the heartbeat and he didn't give me an ultrasound... I think I didn't get the ultrasound because I was very regular etc... we were REALLY looking forward to hearing the heartbeat but I guess because of the shape of the uterous at this time, it's almost impossible to hear :( All he really said was that my uterous was the right size for 10 weeks and since I wasn't having any bleeding or anything it all seemed to be doing fine... Good to know everything LOOKS to be doing ok still would have been nice to have some reassurance that there is actually a baby in there. O well, next month.

Beel-Twins would be so cool! My husband is a twin so we were a little worried about it but the doc says the uterous seems to be the size of 1 baby at 10 weeks so that's good :) Let us know when you know for sure!
Book-Yea, I've heard you show faster with the second :) I'm at the tight pants stage, not showing but feeling fat cuz my pants don't fit! lol! I'm sure it won't be long until it starts showing. Does anyone know how long it will be until most people start showing??
Rou-I'm very excited to get the 1st trimester over with too! Will be very reassuring!
How's everyone feeling? I'm starting to get some more energy (thankfully!) I think my boobs have stabilized so now I can go buy a new bra. I didn't want to buy one until I levelled out. Still no morning sickness which is good.

So, went to the doctor and had both a reg. and a vaginal ultrasound (and holy crap, was the reg. uncomfortable! I've never had to pee so badly before in my life!), and it appears that I have one perfectly fine, totally normal little fella' in me, and the other yolk sac doesn't seem to have anything in it. The nice nurse-lady said that it happens sometimes and it'll eventually get reabsorbed. We got to see (if not hear) the heartbeat, and we got some pics, so that's really awesome. I thought maybe I'd be disappointed if we didn't have twins (I was kinda' stoked about the idea), but seeing actual tangible proof that yes, there is a little person in there overwhelmed any disappointment I might have felt. Of course, it also sort of solidified that holy crap, we're really doing this. :)

I feel for all you with the morning sickness. I haven't had straight-up, incapacitating, vomit-inducing nausea so much as a constant need to eat or I feel ravenously, nauseatingly hungry. I've been trying to constantly munch on dried fruit and nuts at school because if I don't eat something every 10 minutes, I feel like holy hell. The trick is doing it discretely without my students noticing--otherwise they call me out on my no-food-in-class rule (they love pointing out the hypocrisy of teachers). It'll be great when I can tell them and then eat openly in class instead of squirreling away little stashes of food where I can get at them while the kids are working!

I have be soooo sick and tired the last 5 weeks that I've been pretty much useless around the house. My poor husband has picked up the slack: cleaning, cooking, running errands, cleaning the litter of 3 cats, feeding them, and the list goes on. I really want to do something nice for him when this sickness is all over (hopefully 3-4 weeks more of it). Any ideas?

vixen6981
09-15-2009, 12:35 AM
Sorry about everyone's morning sickness!! Ugh! Hope everyone is feeling better!!

Ruth-So cool! It must have been great hearing it!! I can't wait for my next appointment!! I agree, I wish people would post more!!
Rou-Why did you decide to tell people in 2 weeks? Is that when the 1st trimester is over?
Beel-I can definitely see how you'd be (not sure if this is the right term or not) disappointed or let down by having 1 after you get used to the idea of having twins. At least it's a healthy one!!
Latech-Sorry to hear about the sickness! You shouldn't be emptying litter boxes though, bad toxins. Jay has also picked up the slack around here, thank goodness because I've been SUPER tired.

About me, I'm starting to get my energy back (whew) which is a good thing since we built a deck on the weekend!! LOTS of hard work but it's 90% done! I saw some pictures from the deck building and I can see a belly so obviously I'm starting to show, don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep it from the people at work. I was hoping to wait until I heard the heartbeat which is hopefully on my Oct 5 appointment. I'm on week 10 so I'm not sure I'll be able to hide it until them. Is everyone looking forward to the next trimester?? Hopefully the nausea will subside!!

hi there.. this is my 2nd pregnancy, and my son is 3 and im very concerned about him being pushed to the 'back-burner' when the new baby arrives....

also, my 1st pregnancy was a DELIGHT.. i loved everyday of it... but this one, i feel like im so early along and im sooo miserable i dont think im gonna make it.. :( getting up with my son, (Amare') getting him ready for school and getting my self up for work and smelling the onions and everything @ my job, im having a hard time.. :(

ive never been part of a message board, so help me out, but congrats to all the mothers in here.. its so beautiful & soo amazing :)

id just love advice on what to do about Amare' when this new baby arrives... heres hoping for ANOTHER BOY!!! :)

Ruth-Well I guess seeing it is better than nothing! Wow your brother had really big babies! I was 8'1 so not TOO big! I hope you won't have a SSUPER big strong baby that wrecks things! I still hope you have a healthy strong baby :) My friend is about 5 weeks further along than I am and she gets her ultrasound to tell her the sex nexxt week so that's exciting!!

Sierra-Welcome! I think since you are conscious of the "back-burner" that you'll probably go out of your way to ensure you don't put him there. Just include him in everything and I'm sure he'll feel useful! Hang on, you'll make it!! 1st trimester is almost over so hopefully you'll feel better soon. I work above a restaurant and they were cooking fish yesterday (BLECH!!) I thought I was going to lose my breakfast!!
Who's going to find out the sex? I keep flip-flopping between wanting to know and not wanting to know...

Hmm.. I don't know how many ultrasounds I can have, never thought of looking into it. It's different in Canada I think though... I'll have to look into that. I have an ultrasound booked at about 18 weeks so on November 12, too far away to anticipate yet. It would SUCK if the baby won't cooperate if you only get 1 chance!! How much is it to get another one??
I don't like yellow either... but I LOVE the precious planet collection too!! I haven't bought much clothes yet, I found some white onesies at a couple of garage sale so I bought those but that's it so far. I didn't want to jinx it and buy a whole bunch of stuff and then have something go wrong, I'll start shopping when I hear the heartbeat in October!

Sierra-my son will be 3 in January, and I have some of the same concerns that you do. I asked him yesterday, where is the baby? He said "I'm right here Mommy". He usually will point to my belly and say "knock knock baby". I think as long as we are aware of the issue, then we'll do our best to let it not happen. I'm concerned also that I won't have enough love for both of them, because I absolutely adore my son.

Ruth-the doctor told me that I was measuring further along than I am also. I did this with my son and they induced me right on my due date so that he wouldn't get too big for me to deliver. He was 8lbs.8oz, so you may not have anything to worry about it. I'm only 5'3" and everything went fine.

This pregnancy and my first are completely different. With my DS I had no symptoms at all. Not even bb tenderness. With this one, I have had every symptom in the book from day one. Thankfully I am getting my energy back and the nausea continues to improve. I had a doctor's appt. yesterday. Just a regular tummy check, but I did get to hear the heartbeat with the doppler. It was 170, but my OB said that all heartbeats are very fast in the 1st trimester and they don't slow down until around week 14. My next appt. in Oct. will just be a regular tummy check, but I get to schedule my ultrasound for the Nov. visit. I am definitely finding out the sex. I can't stand waiting any longer than I have to.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Welcome to the new people :) Congratulations!!
Ruth-8 lbs 6 ounces isn't TOO bad, maybe since you're taller the baby will be longer and easier for you :) Sorry to hear about the hemroids!! Glad to hear you are feeling a little better!! I'm getting more energy too, thankfully!! We were able to walk the dogs for 1 1/2 hours so we're almost back at what it was before we got pregnant. We aren't walking as FAST as we were but I think that'll come with time :)

It's nice reading about about everyone's progress so far and to know I'm not alone. I've been so worried about miscarriage, as I sure everyone woman does. I'm at 10 weeks and some days and the next doc appt is next Thurs. Once I actually hear that heartbeat I think my fears will calm down. I received awful news today that heightened my fears. Two preg. friends of mine - one about as far along as me and the other was about about 6 weeks. Today, both found out they miscarried at the doctor. Both very good friends. Now here I am still pregnant and worrying even more. And feel horrible, because things are going well for me and not them. It's a weird feeling. Miscarrying is something I've worried about since Ifound out and then come to find out 2 of the closest friends I have miscarried themselves. Gee...life is full of surprises. Ok, had to get that off my chest.

latech-That SUX! I'm sorry to hear about your friends!! They must be heart broken!! I'm concerned about miscarriage too and my appointment isn't for another 13 days. Just remember the power of positive thinking is an amazing thing!! Stay positive!! Don't forget to tell us how the appointment goes!

Ruth-no overdrive yet :0 But at least it's back!! Oct 13 isn't TOO far away!! It'll be here before you know it!! I haven't had a lot of time to look at that board yet but I'll get to it soon.
Roe-YAY!! Good to hear about your test results!!! Don't change boards, stay with us! :) March 30 is close enough to April!! Glad to hear your ultrasound was great!! I can't wait for mine!!

For the first time during my pregnancy I couldn't choke down my lunch. I didn't get sick but I could NOT swallow it!! So I'm watching Greys Anatomy and I'm BAWLING my eyes out! I never cry over shows!! Silly hormones!

So I may be the only one, but I know that I am already feeling this little bug move around. I'm 13w3d and that is a little early to be feeling it, but it's happened more than a few times and I know that it's not gas! With my first I didn't know what I was feeling until about 17wks, but since I know what I'm looking for this time, I think I'm just more tuned in. Plus, my OB said that since I'm petite and I have a tilted uterus that that would contribute to feeling the baby move earlier. I'm not feeling kicks or anything like that, but I'm definitely feeling little flutters. So exciting! Now I can't wait for my DH to be able to feel the baby move. He didn't get to feel DS move because he was deployed overseas almost the entire time I was pregnant so this will be a first for him.

So I'm SUPER excited, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and he said we should be able to hear the heartbeat finally. Very excited to finally get some confirmation that there is actually a babe! Part of me wishes I had morning sickness because then at least I'd have a form of confirmation...
Hope everyone is feeling well!! This is the first day of my 2nd trimester!! WOOHOO!

CLR-I'm glad you were able to have some closure this time around. I hope that they are able to determine what is causing your abdominal pain as well. Good luck, and I hope you are able to start trying again soon. Keep us updated.

This thread is dead! I wish that everyone would post more often, myself included. I miss the daily updates of the TTC thread.

Nothing new to report here. I'm 14 1/2 weeks and I have my next doctor's appointment on the 16th. Hopefully my husband will be able to come to this one. I've been feeling better but the fatigue is still around. And my sex drive is no where to be found. My poor husband!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey Sorry I am kinda thread hopping bc my doc said my due date is 5/8/10 but I will be having a csection and he will take the baby at the end of April.. so here i am.
I am going on ten weeks and have felt great.. until..... last week! I feel like crap.. sooooo nausua and so sleepy. I am drinking gingerale and eating some lemon drops as we speak. Hopefully that will work.
I have a little boy that is 4 and will be 5 in March. And I wasnt sick at all with him. So hopefully this is a girl :)

CLR-I'm glad to got closure. Hopefully they can help you!!

nikki-Yea, I know what you mean! For a while there I thought I was talking to myself :) I'm having the same problem with sex drive, I thought it was back and then it petered out again :( Poor men...

Jboz-Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great. The end of the 1st trimester is in sight though so hopefully your nausea goes away!

Ruth-OMGosh! Quite an experience you had!! So cute!! Can't wait to finally get an ultrasound so I can see the little lemon drop :)

So I seem to have gotten most of my energy back, we spent all day Saturday organizing the house and winterizing the yard it was a LONG day!! I'm into the second trimester now which is great. I told everyone at work on Monday, I was nervous but it went well.
I got to hear the heartbeat finally!! What an awesome experience!!! :D It was good and strong!! My ultrasound is booked for Nov 12 and I can possibly find out the sex at that time if the babe will co-operate!! Very excited!

Vixen.
Congrats on hearing the heartbeat! I got an ultrasound on Sept 30th. It was awesome to be able to hear the heartbeat. Makes it all real.
I go back Oct 30th and hope to hear the heartbeat again :)

Ruth- I'm glad everything was ok! It's so exciting to see the baby on the ultrasound. I had my u/s at 8 weeks, so there really wasn't much movement to see.

Vixen- Glad it went well telling everyone at work and that you have your energy back. I just hope mine can hold up. We are "fall cleaning" our house this weekend and Saturday we are going to an Octoberfest celebration. No beer for me, but it's supposed to be family friendly with face painting and hayrides, so I think my DS will have fun. Did you hear the heartbeat with an u/s or with the doppler machine?

I go back to the doctor next week and I'm getting a flu shot on Tuesday. Is anyone getting the H1N1 vaccine? I'm still undecided. Also, anyone else doing the high resolution u/s? I didn't with my first, but I think it would be kind of neat to be able to tell what everything was without the technician having to tell me. Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, this weekend was thanksgiving.
Book- I heard the heartbeat with a doppler. How did your doctors appointment go? I got my flu shot today, I debated back and forth between getting it and not getting it. Because there's mercury in the shot I wasn't going to and then I realized that my boss came to work with pnemonia 3 months ago so he'd definitely come to work with the flu, jerk. I got the shot that has 1/4 of the mercury as the normal one.
I'm not sure if I'm getting high resolution u/s or not.. they kinda look like little aliens :) But cute aliens... I'm undecided. Are you?
Rou-Glad everything turned out ok!! Glad you got to hear the heartbeat!! Isn't it exciting?!
Ruth-YAY!!! Finally got to hear the heartbeat under normal circumstances :) Awesome!!
Not too much on the go here. My lower back/butt hurts like CRAZY when I'm lying down or sitting. I couldn't even turn over in bed the last couple nights. I haven't had a chance to go to the doc yet but I'm sure he'll just say it was normal. Anyone else having growing pains?

I just discovered our little April 2010 club here. I am due on the 11th also. I have been married for over 13 years and quit trying to conceive about 6 years ago. After my "flu" didn't go away for 3 weeks and my breasts were killing me and maybe bigger I finally decided it was ridiculous but I might as well take a pregnancy test. It was positive just 2 days after my husband's 40th b-day (I am 32)! I got into the doctor the next week and the ultrasound two days later put me at 10.5 weeks. I was able to hear the heartbeat by doppler at the first visit and the doctor was concerned about me due to the look of extreme shock on my face. :) I am now at 14 weeks and 4 days and am so relieved to have reached the second trimester. I had a miscarriage in 1996 and nothing since then.
Why did none of my friends ever mention the pain from stretching? I was so concerned when it started. I also have a lot of trouble with my lower back and with headaches.
So far my energy has picked up very little. I wonder if it is due to my fibromyalgia. My seasonal allergies are also causing trouble thanks to the change in weather. I have so much to do to the house so I hope I get the second trimester energy.

Hello all!
Welcome JNoe! Very exciting for you!! Congratulations!
Yea, I've had lots of stretching pain! Lower back is horrible and I've had a headache for 3 days straight!! Ugh! I hope you get your energy back too!
I've been ridiculously emotional and on the verge of tears for the last 3 days. It may be related to the headaches but I've been crying every night and I fought with Jay last night even though I wasn't mad at him... sigh...
Ruth-What is the ring on a string thing??

vixen6981
10-15-2009, 07:44 PM
Rou-Sorry, I realized I didn't answer your question :) I hope to find out the sex but I'm still debating it. What day is your ultrasound?? Do you have any ideas on a boy name to share? Gabriel is a great name! Bella Grace is an adorable name, I have 2 friends that have named their daughters Bella so it's out for me :)
We're trying to find names that no one else has. If we start naming after a family member the rest of them will just get upset as to why we didn't name it after THEM. Petty I know which is why we're going to avoid the whole situation :)

Hi Vixen, I have been having trouble with headaches also. I have noticed that crying gives me a headache or makes one worse so i have been really trying to avoid T.V. triggers and whatnot to keep from crying. Heat on my neck and mild heat on my face and head help to ease the pain.

Rou-I haven't gone shopping yet as my bras are ridiculously expensive. Each one is about $140 :( So I've been putting it off... I definitely need to go soon though as my old ones are no longer comfy. I've never even looked at maternity bras so it sounds like I have a lot to learn.

Ruth-I saw the other ladies talking about sleep bras. What are these? Just elastic bras?

Ruth-Thanks for looking!! I'm going to give in and get a new bra sometime this week. Sahara is nice but if you aren't sure you like it, you won't be happy in the end. I don't really know if you can name a child for SURE until you see them, what if you name it Peter and it looks like a Paul?? Just a personal opinion :) Congrats on the job!!!!!!!!! lol, just think that if they have to spell Maverick how much more advanced their spelling would be ;)
Rou-I REALLY like Lucas! It was a name that we had considered. Yea, Seba as a nickname is weird, I don't think I like it either. My u/s is Nov 12, when is yours??

I went to the chiropractor today, my back pain is much more severe than it should be and he says it's all related to the car accident :( He basically said that I waited a little too long to come in and now he has to try and catch up so I should try and come in more often so he can catch up and stay on top of the pain. Otherwise I'm going to have a very long and painful 6 months :( Sigh... this is going to be a very expensive pregnancy. On the plus side, my headaches were being caused by my seized neck and shoulder area so for the first time in a week I didn't have a roaring headache today!!
How is everyone else feeling?

JNoe
10-21-2009, 04:08 PM
Oh Ruth that is super exciting, congratulations! In my 13th week I though I felt a flutter but I now realize it was a round ligament spasm given the early date and location. I can't wait to feel the real thing! I am in my 15th week so hopefully it will happen in the next few weeks.
Is anyone else having round ligament pain? I have been experiencing it the last two weeks on my left side. It can be so acute that I finally called my doctor's office today to get some peace of mind. The on call doc today said it sounds very normal and like round ligament pain. My only worry is that when I of course researched it further online for tips all the pages say it should last no more than a few minutes and go away with rest but mine doesn't.
My headaches have also been much improved after my neck adjustment at the chiropractor.
I can't find maternity bras either, just the nursing bras but I haven't tried specialty stores yet for fear of the price. I would love to use the sports bras, etc but I need the padding to protect and conceal these new nipples!

Hey all! Sorry I've been MIA lately, everything has just been crazy lately. I was until recently a SAHM. I now work at a law firm and it is so stressful! I hate working while pregnant. I only have to be here until January. My husband is Army and will be deploying for his second tour in Iraq in January. His first tour was when my DS was born, so he will be missing the birth of this little one too. I think he's more upset than me though. I did fine on my own last time, so I know that I can do it. Anyway, hopefully things will get back to "normal" soon.

I had another doctor's appt. last Friday. I normally love my doctor's office and have a really good experience there, but this time was an exception. I always schedule my appt. to be the first one on a Friday. This way I can make it to work on time. However, my doctor was 30 min. late which made me late for work. Plus he was in the room for all of 2 min. They didn't tell me that they were going to be doing a pap smear, they just did it. I had no idea that they did that during pregnancy too. I did get to hear the heartbeat again, but I didn't even get a chance to ask the nurse what the rate was until she scurried out of the room. I asked about getting the H1N1 vaccine and all the dr. did was hand me a pamphlet. It wasn't my fault that he was running late. It was just really frustrating.

My u/s will be on Nov. 27th. I am definitely finding out the sex. My insurance is trying to tell me they won't pay for the U/S because it's routine and not medically necessary. I hate insurance companies. They tried to do that with my DS too. I'm going to go ahead and schedule it, I'll just have to fight with them when the bill comes. My dr. is having me wait until I am 22 wks to have the u/s so I guess I have to wait a bit longer than most.

I have been feeling the baby move steadily now for the past week. I've been feeling flutters for a couple of weeks, but not they are more defined movements. I am feeling better physically, but my emotions are all over the place.

Hope everyone is doing well!

JNoe

Oh Nikki that is a frustrating appointment. How disappointing.
I had a pap at my first visit which is apparently pretty routine.
Thank you so much for the sacrifices you are making for our country and please thank your husband as well. You sound like an amazing woman.
Thanks Ruth for the tip on the pads. I'll put that to good use.
Is anyone getting the H1N1 vaccine? I think it arrives in my town this week and they are doing children with underlying health conditions first and then pregnant women, health care workers and people who work with infants under 6months. My obgyn said she would prefer I didn't get it just because it is so new so I am torn on the decision.

vixen6981
10-22-2009, 07:38 PM
I am so jealous that everyone can feel the baby!! I can't :( That I know of.
Sorry to hear about your bad appointment, ugh how frustrating! How much is the u/s?? I didn't get a pap yet since I had just had one a couple months before.
I don't think I'm getting the H1N1 vaccine, the vaccine has never actually been tested here and in Canada they have a booster that is meant to boost the serum so they can use less of the vaccine. This booster has never been tested in Canada or the US. I don't want to put anything in my body that has not been thoroughly tested. Are you getting it??
I got the normal flu shot, did everyone else??

JNoe
10-22-2009, 07:45 PM
I got the seasonal flu shot a few weeks ago with no trouble but a sore arm for a day. I still haven't decided about the H1N1 shot but still seem to be leaning towards it.
I'm not feeling the baby move yet either but it is my first and my books say it could be as late as 24 weeks before you do as a first time pregnancy but possibly by 18 weeks. I figure we'll be getting kicked soon enough so I try to be patient. :)

nsmith711
10-22-2009, 08:43 PM
vixen - I got a seasonal flu shot but will not be getting the H1N1 shot. I don't think it has been tested enough. My OB told me the government is just passing it out to them free of charge. I don't need an appointment, co-pay or anything to get it; just show up. Can u say scary!!!!! Just my opinion.

There is a thread on the H1N1 vaccine in the health section that I was just reading before I came over here. I got the seasonal flu shot at work 2 wks ago. It was the first time I had ever gotten it, but it was free and my OB recommended it. My DA and I are going to be getting the H1N1 vaccine tomorrow. It is free of charge and it's a first come first serve basis. The only people eligible right now in my area are pregnant women and children 6 months- 3yrs. My cousin is a pediatrician and she highly recommended it for my and my DS. (She basically said she would bring home the vaccine and give it to me herself if I didn't go get one) She has done a lot of research on it, and since she's a dr. with a personal interest in my and my DS, I trust her judgment on this. I think it's just up to each individual and there isn't a right or wrong answer.

Hello all,

Ruth-Yea I know what you mean about the "glow" thing. lol And yea, tight pants are painful and made me sick too!
Well, I think I felt the baby move today!! I was in a bath and it felt like a butterfly in my stomach. Plus I was told by a co-worker that I was showing a lot more today. It seems like overnight I've almost doubled in belly size, CRAZY!! I have to buy maternity clothes shortly.
Plus I signed up for prenatal yoga because of my back pain. I'm hoping that it offers some relief for the pain!! The Chiropractor said it could help loosen everything up and hopefully dull or eliminate the pain for a while. I HOPE SO!!!

So when is everyone's next appointment?? My next one is the ultrasound on Nov 12! So excited!!

bookworm1536
10-27-2009, 10:05 AM
Ruth-I am only in maternity pants. I can still wear my regular tops and just stretch them over my belly. I've gained 5 lbs. so far but I'm all belly. The bank teller asked me how far along I was today and I told her 17 weeks. She looked at me like I was crazy and then I asked if I was having twins. I don't know why people think it's ok to offer all of their opinions to pregnant women let alone touch them!

Vixen-my next dr.'s appt. in on the 13th. I should be having my sonogram at 22wks. I don't know why they are making me wait the extra two weeks, but I'm just so excited.

Rou-I definitely need a new bra. I started out as a 34 D and I know I'm a DD now. My last pregnancy I topped out at a 36E, so hopefully I won't get any bigger than that this time! I like having the pregnancy boobs, but I just looked ridiculous. One elderly lady in kohl's commented last time. It was so embarassing!

I feel like I dream about the baby almost every night. And they are so vivid too. I usually don't remember my dreams, but I guess being pregnant does that. Anyone else dreaming about their baby? I having had my u/s to determine the sex yet, but I am almost positive I am having another boy. Anyone feel like they know what they are having?

Jboz
10-27-2009, 11:09 AM
bookworm- ok I am a bank teller and I see people all day that likes to give their opinions about my belly. haha ugh makes me so mad (hormones) I am 12.5 weeks and I had some old redneck lady ask me if I was having twins after I told her how far along I was. Made me so mad. I said this is my second child and you show quicker when you have your second and when you were small to begin with !gggrrrrr
whats with people being so rude. Yes I love being pregnant and am glad to be showing but of course when people make comments about "having twin bc I am already "BIG" that makes me insercure.

Jboz
10-27-2009, 01:02 PM
Ruth- haha that is a good one asking them how far along they are after asking if you were having twins.. loves it.

and i feel like I am having a girl. Probably bc i pray about it all the time.. but of course I could be wrong.

Jboz
10-27-2009, 03:17 PM
Thats good. We have been looking at only girl names bc I am refusing to have a boy. Haha I know that sounds aweful but I really want a girl. My little boy is 4 and I would like for him to have a lil sis. But in all reality either way will be fine.
I am 12.5 weeks and I can almost swear I felt a little movement this morning. I never drink caffine but I drank just a little coffee this morning.. and right after.. I felt a little something. It could be all in my head.....

vixen6981
10-27-2009, 10:35 PM
Rou-So does the belly band work well?? I've debated getting one but have been hesitating.
Book-I bought some new shirts, just ones with material in the front or nice and lose. I have been told I'm very good at hiding it :) But I didn't want to wear tight clothes while I was pregnant. HOW RUDE!! The only person that's reached out for my belly is my sister and I suppose I'll let her but if anyone else did I think I'd be tempted to slap them! I wouldn't even waste my time saying much to them, silly people! Your next appointment is right around the same time as mine! I wish there was a way to create a chart or something to help us keep track of everyone. I don't know if I "feel" like I know what I'm having, I'm kinda hoping for a girl but will be happy with anything healthy.
Jboz-Same thing I said to Book, don't waste your time stressing about it. My friend Tanya is 5 weeks farther along than me with her second and when she was 12 weeks she looked like I do now. Now, she looks like she's at least 6 months along and she's about 5 so you are perfectly normal :)
Ruth-I got name books from the library. They have all of them! I used the books and the internet.
So my u/s is Nov 12 which is only 2 1/2 weeks away!! I went to pre-natal yoga today, I described my pain to the instrustor and she said it could be SI pain which is pretty common. She said we'll be doing exercises to focus on this area :) My old back injury definitely crept up during the hour though :( But she had some good suggestions and I really enjoyed the class!! Can't wait for next week!

I'm new to this bloggin thing..just registered today. I was reading my parenting magazine and saw that I could chat on here and thought, that would be nice! I am due april 2 and have a 6 1/2 month old daughter... I was wondering if anyone else has had or does have placenta previa? I am having the WORST pains and can barely hold my daughter anymore.

bookworm1536
10-28-2009, 09:19 AM
youngmm-Welcome! I have never had to deal with placenta previa. Did you have it with your dd as well, or just this pregnancy? Good luck with your pregnancy and congratulations!

Jboz-I started feeling some little flutters around 12 weeks as well, but I wasn't sure if it was in my head or not. I am definitely feeling movement now. I've never heard about caffeine making the baby more active, but I guess that makes sense. I still have a cup of coffee every am because if I don't I get terrible headaches and my OB said one cup won't hurt.

Vixen- yeah a chart to keep up with everyone would be nice. I have a hard enough time trying to keep track of myself!

We discussed baby names before I got pregnant, but now we are waiting to find out if I'm having a boy or a girl before starting those "discussions" (more like arguments) again! He is getting deployed in January so technically I do have final say once I see the baby, but I wouldn't ever name it something that he really didn't like. I just like to tease him about it.

youngmm
10-28-2009, 11:19 PM
bookworm- Thanks! No i didnt have it with my first. How far along are you?
ruth- I had braxton hicks contractions with my first baby too, so I know what you're probably going through. When you get further in your pregnancy it might help to lay on your side and use a one of those wedge pillows. It helped me ;)

vixen6981
10-29-2009, 10:31 PM
Welcome youngmm :) The more the merrier! So this is your second? How old is your first?
Book-Yea I wish I knew how to make a chart on here... Maybe I can fudge one..
So if everyone tells me their info I can update it and then we'll have a reference :)
Ruth-Ouch! Sounds painful! Glad to hear everything worked out!!

I have been having trouble posting lately. I lost two I had typed out. I am blaming it on pregnancy brain which has gotten terrible for me. I am downright stupid sometimes! I decided I wanted a cup of coffee and stopped in the gas station and stood there for several minutes trying to figure out how to get the coffee out until I finally understood that all the spouts were covered because it needed to be brewed. Wow!

My next u/s is on Nov 23rd and we are so excited! My parents and husband are all going. I will be exactly 20 weeks that day and am at 16wks5days today.
I had a weird dr appt yesterday. She said all my last blood work was okay, asked if I had any questions, checked the heart rate on Doppler and shooed me out to get to the lab on time in their office which had already closed anyway so I had to go to the neighboring clinic. I don't think I'll make an appt that late again. I had expected her to do some measurements and manipulations or something.

I am having allergy trouble too but now I will stop complaining! Just a lot of sneezing and runny nose here.
I have not dealt with the placenta previa or Braxton Hicks. This is my first. I'm just having trouble with round ligament pain and headaches. I try to rest and drink a lot of water.

I found a fun and silly quiz of collected old wives tales on whether it is a boy or girl. I don't put any stock in it but it says I have a 76% chance of having a girl. It is really crazy some of the things they came up with over the years. Here is the link if you all feel like taking it: http://www.childbirth.org/articles/boyorgirl.html

Ruth-Yea, I suppose listening to the heartbeat would be an upside :) well hopefully your trips to the hospital are over!
So I got to see my cousins 2 month old twins today :) SO cute!! One was 3 lbs smaller than the other so there's quite a size difference. I think that was the 1st baby my DS had held in a LONG time!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Ruth- I get fall allergies as well. I think I'm allergic to basically every tree that God created, but I've never gotten that sick. I didn't know that benadryl was ok to take while pregnant. Good to know. And there are lots of benefits from drinking water like less chance of stretch marks and vericose veins. Hope you feel better.

So Lauren will be the first u/s. How exciting! I can't believe mine is still 3 1/2 weeks away.

I started Christmas shopping for my DS this weekend. I love shopping for him. This will probably be the first Christmas he really understands what is going on and he can get excited for it. I just have to try and rein myself in this year. I tend to go a bit overboard.

So physically, I feel much better, but emotionally I am a wreck! And I know most of the stuff I get upset about is just ridiculous, but I can't help it. If I'm not crying, I'm fuming. And I have absolutely no patience. I just hope that this phase passes quickly because I feel like I'm going to go crazy!

Even when I'm not pregnant, I have anxiety problems. Most of the time I can regulate myself and I don't need any kind of medication, but there are times when I need a little help. I know that my blood pressure has been out of control this past week and I'm having trouble calming myself. I'm trying to decide whether or not to call my doctor. What do you guys think? I know that it can be dangerous to have high blood pressure while pregnant, but it's a new development that I hope will go away when my stress goes away. What with my husband's upcoming deployment and we have just been having some marital issues I've been really stressed. I don't want to hurt the baby in anyway, but then again I don't want to have to go on medication for a very temporary problem either. I'm just not sure what I should do. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry, it's been a while since I posted.

Ruth-You hold babies all day?? Really?! What do you do again? Good to hear your sex drive is back, I'm sure your DS is happy about that! The candy may not be helping with your mood swings ;) At least DS is being good about it :)

Book- I LOVE Christmas too!! I've got most of the nieces and nephews presents already but there are still lots to go :) I'm trying to keep the budget lower than the last few years since we have a baby to save for.
Did you call your doctor?? I think you should, anxiety attacks and stress are extremely hard on your body!! What did he/she say??

Young-Yea, I know what you mean, I have a lot of stuff to buy too! But I guess I have just as much whether it's a boy or a girl. I think I"m going to find out, I don't have the self control not too!

Well, I've been fairly good. Prenatal yoga seems to be working, I had a massage on Tuesday which REALLY helped. I had been talking to my yoga instructor about my extreme lower back pain, she seems to think it's an SI joint which can cause my leg to collapse and the type and severity of pain that I have. She says there are exercises that will target the SI joint. When I told my massage therapist about the SI joint she went straight there and REALLY helped!! It didn't even hurt when I got off the bed!!!
How's everyone else feeling? Has everyone felt the babe move?? I think I have but I'm not 100% positive.

Hey all! So glad it's Friday!

Vixen-I haven't called my doctor because it seems to be much better. I just have to constantly remind myself to breath and calm down if I feel myself getting upset. DH and I have been doing better the past few days. He's trying to be more understanding. We are so opposite in a lot of ways that it takes up extra work to make things run smoothly. I am a super neat freak and he is the messiest person I know; I'm thrifty and I don't think he's ever balanced a check book in his life. Little things like that add up, but we just have to take some time to focus on each other and get things centered again. I would love to have a massage. My birthday is next week so maybe I'll treat myself!

I've been feeling the baby move for a couple of weeks now. My DS was talking to my belly the other day and the baby was just going crazy. It's not strong enough movements that anyone else could feel them, but they are defintely there.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Hey there,

I've read back a little bit and it seems you have a pretty tight conversation going here. You seem to know eachother and your pregnancies all so well.

My due date was April 11th (my brothers birthday) and was changed to April 1st after my first ultrasound. I'm 21 years old and now that I've gotten over the shock and dealt with the little things... I couldn't be more excited. This is obviously my first pregnancy, but its not my bf's first. He has a 16 month old baby boy (soo cute)..

I have a doc's appointment this Thursday, where I will ask for the requisition for an ultrasound to find out the sex... this is another thing i find myself very excited about.

One thing that worries me, is my worries- if that makes sense. I feel like at times I can't be excited because i feel like something is going to go wrong (with the pregnancy) and i stop myself from enjoying my pregnancy. All my tests have come back crystal clear and my doc says everythings awesome. But still- i worry.

I have felt the baby move alot this week. A few kicks but mostly movement. Anyways I figure talking to others about this all may help me get into the swing of things..

Welcome to the boards LoucksyBaby! Feel free to ask any questions. I was 21 when I had my DS and I was blissfully unaware of everything that could go wrong. Thankfully I had a wonderful pregnancy and delivery. This time around though I am so nervous! You would think that since I have done this before I should be even more calm. But all I do is compare this pregnancy to the last one. Just have faith that if your doctor and the tests say that everything is fine, then it really is. Feeling movement is always a good sign too.

So youngmm has her u/s today! I'm so excited to hear boy or girl. I wonder if we will be pretty evenly divided as far as sex goes or if one sex will dominate. Ruth's dr.'s appt. is on my birthday! How funny.

Not much going on with me. My DH is out of town for training, so he is going to miss my birthday again. I think my last birthday that we spent together was 4 years ago! Oh well. My dr.'s appt is Friday and I hope that the dr. is more attentive this time around. My DH will be with me for this appt. (the first one he's ever been to) so hopefully the dr. makes a good impression on him.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi there

Just found ths board :-) I am due on 9th April with my third child, a little girl this time! I have a 4yo girl and an 18 month boy. We moved to Los Angeles about a year ago and am having fun learning how the American health system works :-)

I had a natural birth with #1 and a c-section with #2 - I was really hoping to have a VBAC with this one but I can not find a doctor that will 'allow' it, still feeling very anxious about this as my OB back home said there would be no reason that I could not have a natural birth again and I so much preferred the natural birth to the c-section.

Everything else is going well, I went and bought some maternity clothes today, so that makes it all real for me.

Anyway, hi and I will try and post some more but things get a little hectic around here.

Take care

Ruth-Yea, I spoke too soon... Saturday night I had to practically crawl up the stairs :( Hopefully yoga tomorrow with help relieve some of the pain! Sounds like a good birthday present would be for Colle to take the babe for a few hours that day! lol!
Book-Well I'm glad you're keeping yourself calm :) Glad your DS is being more understanding also! Happy early birthday!!!
JBoz-Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's counting down the days until Christmas!! lol!!
WELCOME MEGS & DOWNUNDERMOM! We always enjoy more people joining us to chat :)
Megs-I had the same reservations about being happy. I'm always concerned that something will go wrong so I was scared to be excited. Now that the 1st trimester is over I've settled down a bit. My concern now is H1N1 which of course is being talked about everywhere right now.
Downunder-Buying maternity clothes definitely made it more real for me! I went shopping on Friday. They really overprice everything!! CROOKS!! lol!

C'mon Youngmm!!! we're dying of anticipation!!!! :D

Gee, i haven't been on this board in forever. Glad to see everyone is doing well and progressing well. I was so sick the first trimester that i barely had the time or energy for anything extra. Now at 17 weeks and feeling like my old self again! We have our anatomy scan on Nov. 12 - I worry that's too early, but my ob booked it so i guess it's ok! Hopefully he/she will be a good position to find out the gender...I'm so excited to find out!

Our names: Kinsey Blair and Colin Andrew...my husband and I made a deal that if the Saints win the Superbowl (we're huge fans) then it'll be Kinsey Bree or Colin Drew (for the best ever quarterback, Drew Brees)!

We just booked our "babymoon" - we are having a romantic weekend at a bed and breakfast in historic Natchez, MS. We always drive through the town on our way to visit my hometown near Baton Rouge, LA, but never stop to admire the history and beauty of the place. I'm super excited about it. I wish it could be longer, but neither of us can afford to take off as we try to save vacation days for baby days.

One question: we have 3 inside cats (yes, i know -- i collect strays). Everyone keps telling me we are going to have to get rid of them. I know this is crazy talk b/c i've seen peopel with babies and cats. Now if the baby has a horrific allergy, then I understand. But i'm not going to think about that. These cats are my kids for now, and I can't bare the thought of them not being here. People just keep telling that the cats will suffocate the baby...i just dont' know what to think. Suggestions? Any have this situation?

Thanks and good luck to all!

JNoe

I have 3 cats, also strays, and 7 dogs! I was a dog rescuer and have taken a break from fostering with the pregnancy for a few years. We will keep the nursery off limits for all. I have several friends who have cats and had them with their multiple babies with no problems. They tend to get scarce from all the new activity and crying.
I have so many dogs because they were supposed to replace babies as I was supposedly infertile! Every time my husband or I longed for the baby we couldn't seem to have we would get another dog. Oops!! I can't part with them though so we will just have to work it out and are working on extra training now.
I am at 18wks now and am disappointed not to have gotten that famous sex overdrive. Our last attempt could have been very frustrating had i not had a good sense of humor about it. We just could not find a comfortable position.
I have been walking almost daily and that is making me more comfortable. The round ligament pain had become almost constant. I am also trying yoga, a prenatal class, tonight for the first time ever. I'll let you all know how it goes.
What was the medicine your doctor gave you for headaches? My have started to subside some and not get as bad, but Tylenol is never a help.
I have felt the baby flutter a lot this week. I have had a lot of trouble with painful trapped gas so I have to pay attention to notice the difference.
Megs I too try not to get too excited but I also stop worry by distracting myself when it starts. I did have one result come back that is worrisome and am waiting on the results from my husbands subsequent test. I am apparently a carrier of systic fibrosis. If he isn't then all is well. If he is then it is off for genetic counseling. I'll let you all know how that goes.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time doing something like this. I'm due April 16th. This is our 2nd child we have a 4yo girl. I'm 17w4d along. My u/s is November 24 we can't wait. We are hoping to find out the sex. Since we had a girl the first time I need to know what I need to perpare for. I have all the baby girl clothes up to 24 months. i'm doing good so far i have had more headahes then usual but nothing to bad that teynol won't work for. I felt the baby really move last Tuesday. I already had to start wearing Materinity clothes in the 1 trimester. And yes the are very expensive. You might want to check out consignment shops. That's where I've been checking.

I also have been very nervous with this one. I think I won't feel easy unttil the ultrasound. I just want to know that everything is okay. I had all the test and they all came back good. Just want to see the little one and know everything is good.

Hope to talk with you's later.

Meg
Latech - we have cats also and I had no problems I just watched them very closely when they where around the baby.

My only real question is does anyone know if those Maternity belts really help? Lately I have been having pains on the bottom of my belly like I need support of some kind.

JNoe

My first prenatal yoga class went really well tonight. I can tell that it is something I really need to keep up and will be very helpful for labor. Still waiting to hear back from the doctor about my husband's test results for the systic fibrosis.
I have gained 15lbs so I am 5lbs over the max right now. Oh well! I think Halloween was a big problem for me and I haven't been listening to my sweet tooth lately to hopefully slow the gain.

Where is youngmm? I want to know if that baby is a boy or girl!

Ruth- I registered at Target and Babies R Us with my DS. Not everywhere has a babies R us but most places have a target nearby. The 3 items I used the most were: my baby bjorn infant carrier (a lifesaver!), my infant swing and a wipe warmer. Those nighttime diaper changes are bad enough and when you use a cold wipe, it can wake the baby up completely.

I think I will be having another shower even if I have another boy, because I need a lot of stuff. Not as much as the first time around, but still more than I could afford by myself. I know that a baby shower for the second is controversial to some, but I figure that if you need the stuff why not. Plus, my friends and relatives will throw me one anyway so at least I can register and get what I really need.

Not much new with me. My DH comes home tomorrow night, so I'm excited to see him. The baby is moving constantly. A lot more than my DS did. I wonder if this one will be a lot more active than my son once he's born. I'll update again after my doctor's appt on Friday.

Thanks all for posting replies to my question about my kitties. I feel much better now.
I saw that baby bjorn carrier at the louisiana tech game (my alma mater!) last saturday and the mom and baby looked so happy in it! She had 2 other kids with her, so it was very convienent. Good call on that. Definilty will register for that.
I go to my anatomy scan tomorrow - please keep fingers crossed that measurements are normal and we can tell if it's a boy or girl. I just fear that the baby will be in a fetal position and we won't be able to see anything :(
Hope all is well with everyone!

Ruth- The 2 things I found I used alot was the bouncy seat and the excersaucer that has a lot of different activities. Also, We registered at Walmart and Babies r us. It was easy to return there. But I would do the on-line registering for walmart. Each store has different items and online has everything they carry.

Hope that helped you some.

Not to intrude on the thread but I wanted to answer Ruth's question about what items were life savers. I second the swing, sometimes they sleep so much better in those and you can get a good 3 hour or more nap out of it. I also relied heavily on the boppy pillows. I had two, one for the baby (helps you to sit up straight while breastfeeding which helps your back) and one for me to sit on. I bruised my tailbone after an hour of pushing and it made it so much more comfortable to sit. I carried that thing around like a hemorriod pillow! LOL!

My parents met at/went to LA Tech! I was born in Ruston. I am in KY now though.
The Boppy pillow is my best friend's must have item for all new mommys. I picked one up already at a consignment church sale and have found it handy to keep my little dogs from jumping up on my belly on the couch at night.

Juliana - that is so cool! Not sure if you been to Ruston lately, but it is a completely different town. I've only been here 5 years and it has changed so much!

Ruth - I'm looking forward to my week too...i love being a teacher and having off so much! Comes in handy now since I can take off April and don't have to go back until August!

I had my ultrasound today! BABY BOY! So excited! Everything else looks good, but there was a slight arrythmia - sometimes it was there and then it would be a normal hearbeat. We heard twice and then 3 other times it was completely normal. She said it happens and not to be worried b/c the heart looked good. But it gives me another excuse to have another ultrasound which I don't mind.
His name will be Colin Andrew. My husband thinks we have the next Drew Brews baking in my belly...haha!

Ruth-- can you not sleep because the movement is so distracting? Just curious as to what is ahead. I still just feel flutters multiple times a day and got a bit of a kick a few minutes ago.
LATech- it has been a few years since I have been back. My grandparents lived in Bernice (tiny town). My grandfather was their mayor for 25 years and their barber for 20 years before that.
Colin was in our top three for a boy. It is a great name. We settled on Conner if we have a boy. The time until the u/s really drags by!
My husband just got back from a business trip and went to a Carters outlet store while he was gone. He bought two of the cutest unisex sleepers! They asked if he was buying a gift an he said no that he had a baby on the way and they told him they do not get men in there very often. He told them he is well trained. HA!

Latech-Good to see you back! Glad to hear you're feeling better too!! I also have 3 cats so I was wondering the same thing. I know how to deal with our dogs when we introduce the baby but with the cats I'm not sure what to do. I guess we just have to keep an eye on them.

JNoe-lol! I think I'd have 7 dogs if I could but the city won't let you have more than 3 dogs in the city and 7 animals total. We've levelled out at 3 cats, 2 dogs and a lizard :) There is no way I could part with my dogs so I understand your feelings! Everyone tells me to bring a blanket from the hospital home; then when you bring babe home enter the house first and say hi to the dogs then bring the baby in after the initial excitement of you being home has passed. Seems to have worked for a few people I know.
I also joined pre-natal yoga and really enjoy it! We got to work with balls on Tuesday which was nice. I can tell it really helps so I"m going to keep going.
VERY glad to hear your husband isn't a carrier!! That must be a huge weight off your chest!
lol, your husband is well trained :) Too cute!

Megan-Welcome! Always nice to have new people. Consignment stores are a great idea! I guess I just have to find one! I'm not sure if the maternity belts work, I've heard they do but I don't have any experience with them.

Ruth-GLad to hear your appointment went well! Crazy how active your babe is since it's already keeping you up at night! I think I'm registering at Babies R Us but I'm not certain yet. Walmart's a good idea too. The tips I heard are one of those floor mats, bouncy chairs and the swings. If you're a walker then a carrier would be a good idea, we walk every day with the dogs and take them to offleash parks on the weekend so we've already bought a backpack carrier because it was cheap. I'm going to get a snuggly one for the first couple months.

Book-NOthing wrong with abother shower. Good idea on the wipe warmer! I didn't even think of one of those.

Hard-Thank you for intruding! Always nice to hear from you!! What are boppy pillows?

Young-YAY! Congrats on the boy! Glad to hear from you

So I had my u/s today :) We got to see the heart beat the legs kicking and the babe was waving at us. Although when it looked directly at us it looked like a skelton!! CREEPY!! The tech had a quick look between the legs and said "there's no evidence of a penis so I think it's a girl"! I still have some reservations but she wouldn't have said anything if she wasn't pretty sure :) YAY! Jay is SUPER excited!! Possibly more excited than me!! We'll hear on Monday if everything looks good, the results go to my doc and he'll review them with me. The due date changed by 1 day, now it's APr 10 so nothing significant.

BTW, sorry I wrote a novel!!

Natasha-How exciting! A little princess! The sonogram pictures look creepy to anyone else, but to you they are beautiful. I totally understand.

So we are evenly divided so far: 2 boys 2 girls. We'll have to wait for loukysbaby to see which way the scales tip.

I just had a regular check up today. The heartrate was in the 150's which my mom isn't happy with because that's "too in the middle". She wants it either to be in the 120's so she can say it's a boy or in the 170's so it'll be a girl. I am measuring right on schedule, but I've gained 10lbs so far! That seems like a lot to me. How much have you guys gained?

My DH has changed his mind and decided that he wants a girl. I would love to have a girl but I don't mind being the only girl in the house for a while. My dad predicts that I am having a boy. That wouldn't ordinarily mean too much except that he was right about me and my sisters, and all of my cousins for the last 24 years!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Bookworm- I've only gained 3 lbs. so far but i'm on the bigger side and my dr. only wants me to gain 10-15 lbs. altogether. With my first daughter I only gained 11 lbs. and she weighed 8lbs. 1 oz. I think you shouldn't worry about it unless your doctor say's something. Or you could ask your dr. how much they recommened you gain. I do now my sister-in-law gained 40 with each child. Everybody is different there. Just enjoy the feelings of flutters and kick's. I know they can be uncomfortable but they are always good signs.

Nothing going on here just waiting for my u/s. Can't wait to see this little one on the big screen.

Everybody have a great weekend.

It sounds like I take the dreaded prize for most weight gain so far by far! At 19wks on Monday I have gained 15lbs. My dr said she wants me to gain 25-30lbs so I am about 5lbs ahead of schedule. I gain weight so easily that I knew I'd put on a bit right away going from a diet of coffee all day and a small dinner to squeezing the food pyramid in daily.
I know several women who gained that 40lbs with each kid. I hope to stay below that mark. Especially since I just lost 40lbs before I got pregnant.
Going to a consignment sale today where the whole store is 25% off. So excited!

Oh my goodness, thank you for all the welcome msgs! Few questions though- what does DS and DH stand for? lol....

Also, I see alot of messages regarding insurance, does this mean you are all to my South? Im from Ontario, Canada. And wellm I dont deal with insurance at all?

I see that a few of you already know what your having! SO LUCKY! Where I am, you have to wait until you are 22 weeks to find out... If the little gaffer decides to open their legs I get to find out on the Nov 24th if tis a boy or girl.

My latest Dr.'s appointment went well. Heartbeat is 152, measured up nicely. I am 20 1/2 weeks and I have gained 9lbs. Dr said that was excellent, although I feel fat.

Went looking for maternity clothes yesterday and I agree.. expensive! haha damn.

Anyways, excitement is building!! It's so nice to read all you have to say, it helps!!

Book-I heard that 10lbs is average. I have only gained 2 lbs, doctor isn't concerned though.
Lousksy-I am in Edmonton :) so I don't deal with insurance issues either.

I had my monthly check-up today, I've gained 2 lbs overall. Ultrasound looked good, everything is developing properly and the heart beat is "strong and perfect" :) Very good to hear!!

Young-How did your appointment go today?

JNoe - You're our next ultrasound!! :) Then Megan and Louksybaby :p Can't wait to find out!!

Lousky - Im in Michigan and insurance is a pain. You think you have everything figured out and then come and find out they have the wrong information. Also, thanks for asking about the abrviation's I was trying to figure it out.

Vixen - I have a doctor app. the same day of my u/s. the do it all in one app. I can't wait I'm so anxious to now how things are going. I've been feeling movement here and there but i just want to see the little one.

Does anybody know what the normal heartbeat is for girl or boy. So far both my pregnecies have been in the low 150 to high 140's. Also, I'm so tired of this heartburn. It's getting to be a pain. I think i'm going to say something to the doctor next week. I'm still trying to find maternity pants that are inexpensive.

Well I hope everybody has a goood week.

Aside from consignment, Motherhood Maternity has the best prices on pants that i have found. Some are expensive, but I got a couple of pair at $21 and $29.99 and a clearance yoga pant for $16.99 there. I like their seamless belly band they offer because it stays in place pretty well but isn't binding. I haven't been able to stand the fat elastic bands.
We are so excited about the u/s on Monday! Just 5 days away tomorrow! The days have really drug by. We will be so disappointed if the baby doesn't show us. I'll be sure to log on and announce the result Monday evening.

A heartbeat above 140 is a girl according to the old wives tale. The articles I have read by doctors say that is absolutely no indication though and my doc laughed when my husband mentioned it.
Did anyone try the newer pee test that supposedly tells you the sex? It was $29.99 at Walgreens and I had never heard of anyone trying it so I decided to save the money and endure the wait.

Jboz

I have seen the test that you are talking about online... and at walgreens. It seems like it would be fun to do but with it being so close to the ultrasound, I don't really see spending the money on it. Plus Christmas is right around the corner. :)

Is anyone getting the Swine Flu vac? I am really up in the air about it since there hasnt been a baby born that the mother has had the vac. It is all scary to me because there isnt really any long term research...since it is new.

I go for a check up next week. I am gona try to sweet talk the doc and see if we can take a quick peek at the baby... I just really dont want to wait 2 more weeks to find out what it is :) Wish me luck

Hope everyone is well.

Rou-how exciting! I love the name Lucas, but my for some reason my DH wouldn't agree to it. I probably won't know what I'm naming mine til I see him or her!

Vixen-my next dr.'s appt. is dec. 11. I'm going to try and get that changed though so you don't have to put it on our makeshift calendar. So we're at three boys and 2 girls so far. I can't wait to see what the final count is.

Not much going on with me. My DH felt the baby move for the first time last night. Needless to say he was a little creeped out by it. He is funny about stuff like that. Who did you guys take to the u/s with you? I feel like I need a waiting list for the people who want to go. With my DS it was only me and my DH, but this time my mom, my 2 sisters, my DH, DS and my grandma will all be coming. I hope that the dr.s don't give me a hard time about it.

I'm just excited to be at the halfway mark, but I'm a little sad about it too. I just love being pregnant. But of course I am in the "honeymoon" stage of it now. My only complaint being the heartburn. Nothing a tums won't cure though. I'm sure once I hit that third trimester I'll be ready to be finished.

Well, I get to go in for another ultrasound to check on my baby's arrythmia they caught last week. I thought it wouldn't be for another 10 weeks (that's what the u/s tech said), but my doc wants to go ahead and do it sooner. So I get another look at my little boy on November 30. Please think good thoughts that this arrythmia is nothing serious.
Vixen...my next doc appt is Tuesday, Nov 24 and I'm due April 19 - so you can add that to your calendar.

Wow, it's been a while since I posted... life is running away from me.

JNoe - I'm dying to know how today went!!! Motherhood is the cheapest that I've found although I bought jeans from Old Navy.

Megan - Can you take anything for the heartburn?? Talk to him tomorrow about it

Jboz - I am not getting the shot. I don't feel comfortable with it so I'm not getting it, I agree, there hasn't been enough testing for me to get it. Let us know if the doc gave you a sneak peek :p

Rou-YAY, congrats on the boy! I like Lucas! We are also doing an animal theme, the bright stuff. I bought a dresser yesterday but no crib yet.

Book- I added your appointment anyways, let me know if it changes. I took my husband. You're going to have a full room, let us know if they give you a hard time.

Latech - Good luck tomorrow! Hope everything is ok!

Ruth-Remember how bad you felt after halloween ;) Just keep that in mind. I like the precious planet set too but we're doing both, the precious planet at the rainforest because we can find the rainforest set used. They are very similar so I figured why not.

So as I mentioned above, I went to Babies R Us on Saturday, they had a solid birch dresser marked down from $750 to $250. The only problem we could find was a sticky drawer. We bought it and my Dad was looking at the drawer to see if he could fix it; he switched the top and middle drawer and it works PERFECT!!! No scratches, solid birch, great color and in complete working order for $500 off!! SWEET! Now we just have to get the matching crib.
I'm having a LOT of SI joint pain... It's beyond annoying and almost crippling at times :( Yoga helps but my last yoga session aggrivated my previous back injury... I guess I'll never win...
My doc has referred me to an OBGYN so my appointment has changed from Dec 28 to Dec 1.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow on your appointments!! There are a lot!!

YAY!! Congrats Jnoe!!!!! Good idea on the registering before Christmas!

bookworm1536

JNoe- Congrats on your baby girl! I too found that Motherhood has jeans for a reasonable price. Target too has some really cute stuff. I went into Gap looking for some maternity pants for work, and they have the cutest baby clothes for winter. It was so hard to come out empty handed. Registering before Christmas is a really good idea. I may just have to pick certain things out though because with my DS I registered pretty early and by the time my baby shower rolled around, I had found other things I liked better.

Natasha- have you tried seeing a chiropractor for your back pain? I've done some of the prenatal pilates videos and those were ok, but I prefer to just take a walk outside to get my exercise while I still can. I am really clumsy without being pregnant, so the first sign that the ground is slick, I'm staying in.

So we have two u/s today and a couple of doctor's appointments as well. I wish I was able to do a doctor's appt and u/s in one visit. My insurance must be the issue. I'm so excited about Friday! I get to find boy or girl (eventhough I am 99% sure it's a boy already) and... I get to see New Moon with my sister! I know, I'm way too old to like Twilight, but it's a guilty pleasure that I just can't let go. I'll update again on Friday! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Well I went to the doctor this morning.. the heartbeat was 150. When he was trying to find it he said that was a very active baby :) But I couldn't talk the doc into a sneak peek of the babies behind :( He said "2 more weeks, youll be fine" I said "it is Thanksgiving it is a time for giving" Yea.. that didnt work either. Oh well :) two weeks and I (we) will know.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and EAT LOTS.. we ARE eating for two ladies ;)

Our girl is going to be named Fiona Caroline. We stopped on the way home and picked up a few pink things for fun. Her heartbeat was 140 this time. The doctor didn't say anything about the ultrasound other than the measurements she had were good. Their computers were down so she had not received an actual report on it yet. She said she'd call today but I didn't hear from her so I'll probably call tomorrow. My husband is having a minor knee surgery tomorrow to remove screws that were inserted this past Jan to reroute ligaments.
My next doctors appointment is 12/17. I don't have another ultrasound scheduled at this time.
I have to get a Rhogam shot at 28 weeks because I am Rh neg.

Well girls it look like the boys are taking over. We just found out today that we are having a boy. He's doing good, his heartbeat was 149 and everything is forming right. He just under 1 pound right now and that's good now is when he's going to start to gain his weight. I'm a little worried on how big he is going to be hopefully not over 9 I don't know if i'll beable to handle that. We kinda decided on a name now just trying to figure out the middle name to go with it. I'm doing good to. I only gained another 2 pounds so tha brings me to 5 pounds. And i talked with him about my heartburn and he said to try mylanta or pepto. If that doesn't work then prilosec over the counter.

Jnoe- Congratulations on the girl. Also the rh shot is nothing to really worry about I have had one already and then will have the other one at my 28 week check-up. I'm O neg. And with my daughter had to have that shot alot but that started at the beginning of my 2nd trimester. But so far with this one I've only had to have 1 thank goodness I just hate shots. I don't think we will be buying anything until after christmas just in case we receive gifts from relatives.

Vixen- My next appointment is Dec 21 no u/s needed right now.

Well I hope everybody has a great thanksgiving.

Yay for all the boys! Congrats! What is everyone naming their little one? Our little man will be Colin Andrew.
Doc appt was yesterday - everything is measuring up well. She had a hard time finding his heartbeat, but finally....it was there. He was just being stubborn, just like during his ultrasound. I've only gained 3lbs (was very sick in the beginning) - it's weird b/c before I got pregnant I was an avid WeightWatcher (even work for them parttime) and worked so hard to maintain my weight. Now that I'm pregnant, I've let me myself in on indulgences I normally wouldn't and I'm still at my goal weight. But if I wasn't pregnant and eating like I am, I bet I would have gained so much! I just don't get it! Oh well, I can't complain right now, but I'm sure the weight will all come on soon enough.
We are baby registering today! So exicted! There are no Babies-R-US near us so we have to do Target. I hate Walmart registery, so we just have one choice. No biggie though.
Happy Turkey Day everyone! Doc told me to be careful with all the eating since things "move a little slower" in our system right now! So eat small meals everyone - yes I know that's hard on Turkey Day!

Book-Yea I go to my chiropractor regularly and massage. I also try to walk the dogs everyday... unfortunatly there isn't much that can be done :( I LOVE twilight!! I can't wait to see New Moon but I'm going to wait until the crowd dies down a bit, let me know how it is!

Jboz-Aw, sorry to hear that. At least it is in 2 weeks though, not 2 months anymore!! Mine does not seem to be very active, she just chills out most of the time. I'm hoping that carries forward to after she's born :)

Ruth-I was just giving you a hard time, I just remember talking to you after halloween; hehehe. Yes, smaller meals seem to help a lot. I'm the same way with Christmas shopping and stupid people this year, SO frustrating! It's only going to get worse! DId you get a lot of stuff bought?

Roe-Thanks for the update! I thought there was a line for you earlier but I'm not positive, didn't mean to leave you out

JNoe-Fiona is a pretty name! Yea, they don't know too much, I'd stick with the old addage that no news is good news. Best of luck to your husband today, surgery sucks!

Megan-Congrats on the blue bundle of joy!!! My doc never told me how much mine weighed, I would stress yourself out about it though, it's pretty hard for them to tell you the end weight. Hope that works for your heartburn!!

latech-That's a nice name! We haven't decided on ours yet, just throwing a few in the air. Yea, I was trying to lose weight before I was pregnant and it just wouldn't come off and now I've only gained 2 lbs, so the baby's taken between 10-15 which means essentially I've lost weight.. So frustrating!! O well, I'm not going to complain! Have fun registering!!!!

I added a new column for names as they are decided. If you wish to share of course :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!! My turkey day is done but I'll try and find something good to eat!! :)

Ruth-Good thing you got a different bra then! I've FINALLY bought one that fit, $188 :( Sigh... wish I had normal size boobs!!
How did shopping go???
Book-O, I'm sorry he/she was shy! The most important thing is that it's healthy! I'm glad they're sending you back. Maybe it'll co-operate then, I'll keep my fingers crossed!! What day is that appointment?

How was everyone's Thanksgiving?? I got all my Christmas decorations up, inside and outside. Luckily we got the one's outside up because we had a snow storm today and it's yucky outside now... Ruth- I understand what you mean about the nesting. It's hitting me earlier this time around. I'm 22 weeks and I shouldn't go early, but it still doesn't seem like enough time. My DS and the new baby will have to share a room and I just don't know how I am going to get everything to fit. I want to repaint and my DH leaves for Iraq in January, so I want to get everything done before then. I'm getting stressed just thinking about everything!

Natasha-I'm going to be making my u/s appointment today and I'll let you know what the date for it is once I find out. Hopefully they have something available soon because I can't stand not knowing. I wasn't able to buy anything on Black Friday or CyberMonday because I don't want to do gender neutrals. And if I'm having a boy I don't need nearly as much stuff.

What kind of stroller/car seat are you ladies getting? I had an Eddie Bauer travel system last time. It was nice for the first 3 months, but then my son was too heavy for me to carry in the infant seat and the stroller was so wide that it was hard to shop with and I had a hard time getting up into my SUV by myself. I found an adorable Hauck set that comes with the car seat, stroller base and basinett option (I just adore prams) but they are a British company and I can't find a retailer that will ship to the US. I know I still have time to figure everything out, but I'm getting antsy.

I just wanted to say it's nice to see a board like this where you guys are all so friendly, and really helping each other! I'm due on April 7th with my first...and I'm very excited! I had my ultrasounds already (yup - 2 because the baby wouldn't stop moving long enough to get the heart measurements). But all is good!

I find myself being really tired - all the time! Any hints or tips?

Best of luck everyone!

Ruth- I had a pack-n-play with bassinett with my DS and it worked really well for me because we didn't have much space. This time around, the pack-n-play will stay at my mom's and I'm getting a bassinett for my room for the first couple of months. Then the baby will move into my DS' crib and DS will move to a toddler bed. That's the plan anyway; I'm sure it won't play out like that.

Natasha- my u/s is on the 11th as well as my next dr.'s appt.

Sonia- My little one wouldn't cooperate with the u/s tech and I go back in two weeks for a follow up. Hopefully they can get all of the measurements finished and I can find out if it's a boy or girl. Were you able to tell the sex on either of your u/s? Oh and by the way, welcome and congratulations!

Welcome Sonia! And yes, I'm exhausted by the end of the day. I don't have this magic energy that I read about in the 2nd trimester. I've been in bed by 8 or 9 almost every night and have a hard time getting up in the morn. I never feel truly rested. But I think it may be b/c I haven't exercised in quite awhile. I stopped during the 3 months that i was so sick and haven't been able to pick it back up. Who knows!

I'm glad ya'll starting discussing baby stuff, b/c I am so overwhelmed! I started registering and realized I have no clue what I need since this is my first. I need my mommy or sister to go with me! I've also been wondering about the travel system vs. a car seat and separate stroller. I gotten mixed reviews. Hopefully we'll get some more posts on that.

I'm 20 weeks and 5 days along - i have a small bump, but not very noticeable. However, NONE of my pants fit! I wear dress pants everyday and need more ASAP. I tried putting on some of my old "big" pants I had before I lost weight but they don't fit. The buttons hit exactly where my stomach pooches out. I found a couple of pants at Motherhood Materinity that are comfy and fit well. I got a pair from Target and after one wash they were completely distorted. Do ya'll have any reccommendations?

We went back to check on my baby boy's arrythmia this past Monday and all went well! No evidence of the arrythmia anymore :) Better, I got to see him again. Besides the traditional u/s, the tech also did a 3-D so it was really neat to see him in full form. I'm already in love! Yesterday, my husband said "i love you, colin (baby name)" and my heart just melted!

Ruth-Yea, you get a lot of walking done, I went to West Edmonton Mall last Sunday and walked WAY too much. I'm not handling the crowds very well though. Wow, you sure are planning ahead, buying stuff for daycare :) How much time do you get off work? Colle must be excited to go to the ultrasound on Monday :)
I bought a playard at a consignment store, 1/3 of the price and looks brand new! They also have used bassinets so I'll probably pick one up there as well. I don't think I'm going to get a travel bassinet, I'm the oldest by 7 years and my bro & sis could sleep anywhere so I'm not sure I need it. I guess I'll see how things go...
Book-I haven't had the nesting problem yet. But I REALLY Want to pain the nursery. I got a Graco, my Mom bought it so I didn't get much choice. It came with the stroller etc... I know I'm going to need another car seat/booster seat within the year but I'll make do.
Sonia-Welcome!! Nice to hav eyou here! Sorry, I don't have many hints for being tired :( Do you nap when you feel the need to?? Good self-control! Sometimes I wish I had that self control!
latech-luckily I have a friend who's got a 2 year old and she came shopping with me and gave me LOTS of hints... blankets, wash clothes, etc. She said to stick with the basics and wait until after the shower to see what else you need. I've been told NEVER to buy the diaper genie II; apparently the refills are VERY expensive and you go through them very quickly. The travel system's car seats are heavy, but your babe probably won't be able to fit for the full year. Plus when they get older they aren't going to want to be cooped up in a car seat, they're going to want to look around and be able to move.
SO glad to hear the arrythmia is all good :) SO cute!!

Sonia- I don't know how you can stand to wait to find out the sex! I don't have enough patience for that. Do you have names picked out for boys and girls yet?

Latech- After spending all day on-line looking at strollers yesterday (when I should have been working!) I think I am going to get one of the universal stroller frame that fits any infant car seat and use DS current seat. He has a convertible one that will be a big infant seat. He grew out of his travel system seat really quickly and I had to buy this seat anyway. Anyone know how often car seats expire? The one I am thinking of using is about 2 years old. Then once the baby is getting too heavy to have in the car seat and carry around, I'll get a lightweight stroller that will go from infant to toddler. Something like a Mia Moda or a Britax that's durable and cute but not as expensive as a bugaboo or peg perego. Of course if it's a girl, I might change my mind and want all new everything!

Vixen- It is very smart to wait until after your shower to buy anything. I ended up taking a lot of stuff back that I had doubles of and then using the exchange money to buy what else I needed. You wouldn't believe how many blankets I got. One of my favorite things to do for a shower gift is to go on their registry and buy a lot of the small items and fill a laundry basket with it. I put Dreft laundry detergent in there, washclothes, socks, bibs, onesies, etc. I didn't use a diaper genie at all. I just tied them up in a plastic bag if they were smelly and took the trash out more often.

My mother and grandmother are very big into doing yard sales for baby items. No car seats obviously, but things like the exersaucer, swing, play yard. So I probably won't get anything new of that sort and just see what they can find for me. I think yard sales normally start around April and a lot of that stuff you don't use for a couple of months anyway.

My mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her diapers. My son still isn't completely potty trained and I can't imagine the cost of two in diapers. Another tip: if you get a lot of one size diaper at your shower like Newborn which they aren't in very long, you can take it to walmart and most major retailers and exchange it for another size without a receipt.

Other than that, not much new to report. I am feeling a bit more rested and I do think it is tied to exercise. I've been noticing some veins in my leg, which my mom says are looking like vericose! She has them and I knew I would probably get them too, but I'm only 24 and don't want to have to wear pants or tights the rest of my life. I ordered some of the support knee highs to wear and I'm trying keep my feet propped up as much as I can while I'm at work. Hope everyone has a good day!

Ruth- How exciting for DH to get to come with you! It will be so special for the two of you to share that experience together. I brought 6 people with me, but they would only let 3 go back. So with the next sonogram, the other 3 are coming! Yep, I just turned 24 a couple of weeks ago. I may be young in years, but I'm an old lady at heart. At least that's what my mom always said! I've been using the palmer's on my belly, but I'll have to try it on my legs.

Nikki - i don't know how I'm going to manage not finding out either...but it's something I've always wanted to do...and now that both my U/S are done, I don't have the chance to ask, which is easier for me!! But it's hard to sitck to neutral clothes! they're not nearly as much fun.

Sorry - i didn't leave much as far as details go...my last U/S was November 19th. Unless there are complications, I think that is the last one. My next doctor's appt is December 9th. And yes, we have names picked...if its' a girl, it will Be Teresa (after my husband's mother...she passed away over 10 years ago), and if it's a boy, it'll be Dante (after my father...I've always loved his name).

So we will have to see what this baby is Wednesdays... I cant wait. I am so ready to know so I can pick out carseats...a name.... bedding... and clothes. Ya know all the fun stuff. Book-Yea, I don't think I'll get a diaper genie.. not needed.. Good idea on buying lots of little things and filling up a laundry basket, great idea! We went to a lot of garage sales when we first found out, now however, it's winter so there aren't any :( Speaking of winter, it's -28 celcium (-13 ferenheit) today, BRRR!!! Hope the hose and socks help with the veins!

Sonia - My middle name is Teresa so I like that one! And Dante is very cool too!!

nsmith-HOORAY!! Congrats on the little boy!! I hope you are okay! I HATE car accidents! Names... hmmm.. I'll think on that and hopefully give you some ideas. I went on the parenting.com website and went through ALL their names but I've lost my list :( We did the same thing as Ruth, both of us spent a week going through names and then at the end of the week we compared the lists... kinda fun and believe it or not, there were matching names!

Ruth-YAY! Congrats ont he boy!! Your guess what right!! :D Did they say he looked healthy?

jboz & book - Can't wait to hear the results of your ultrasounds!!

My husband flew through knee surgery and the stitches are out already. He is about 90% better. He'd be at 100% already but he banged the incision site on the dashboard and it swelled up. I felt terrible because he was going to get the frappachino I just had to have.
Mom and I went to the Ikea outlet this past weekend and got a matching bookshelf, chest of drawers w/ an adorable mirror, a wardrobe, and a shelf to go above the changing table we already purchased from Amazon. It is all so adorable and I can't wait to see it put together in the nursery. I still have to kick hubby out of the nursery first as it is currently his office which I am banishing to the attic. LOL
Hopefully we have a hand me down crib so I thought the last furniture we had to get was the rocker but I got a call yesterday from BF asking if I wanted the glider and ottoman from her toddler's room. Heck ya I do!!
We got a Graco travel system a month or more ago because Target had it as a "special purchase" for $100 for the set. We couldn't pass that up! It is teal and choc and tan so fairly neutral. I love the teal too and actually am leaving the Caribbean teal walls that my husband's office is painted for the nursery and using pink and chocolate to decorate.
We are going to wait until after the shower to buy anything else. We went ahead with most of the big items because we don't have anyone in a position to do such big gifts for us. We also wanted to use a Nov commission check of my husband's because we aren't very good at saving so spend it on what we need quick. Ha!
We had a huge milestone on Sunday... We saw my belly moving with the kicks and squirms, wow!! They have gotten much stronger and more frequent. Hubby was having so much fun with it. He even put his cheek on the belly so she would kick it, too funny.
I had heard the same thing about the expense of the Genie II so hadn't planned to register for it. Reading reviews though on Amazon it seems to work much better than pails that use reg trash bags. We checked it out at Wal Mart and it is very inexpensive there and the refill is only a couple of dollars more than a box of trash bags. They really are much cheaper there. Be sure to register for the refills too.
I too am extremely groggy in the morning and stumble around. I asked hubby to just leave me be until after I eat my cereal during which I seem to come to. I do not have second trimester energy. I set aside a day at least once a week to just rest even though it is boring and I have so much to do and I prioritize so I can get what i can done on a reg day and let the rest go when I am too sore to cont. I had heard that the ligament pain would subside at 20 weeks, but I am 22 wks 3 days and still have plenty. Do what you can and forgive yourself the rest so you can rest!
Who is having showers, how many and when? I am due April 10th so I was thinking to suggest late Feb or early March for my one shower. It sounds terrible, but I'd like to let people recover from Christmas buying before having to shop for me!

Oh I forgot to mention that my u/s measurements ended up being fine. I am so glad to hear yours were too Ruth. We were both right about the sex we thought we were going to have!
Congrats on all these boys everyone! We are ridiculously excited about our girl. I saw quite a few newborns while I was out shopping the last few weekends. I just still can't believe I am going to have one of those tiny beings! Anyone else feel that way?

bookworm1536
12-08-2009, 02:46 PM
JNoe- Glad to hear that all of the measurements were good. I wish we had an Ikea nearby. A lot of their stuff they don't offer online so I would kill to be able to shop in store. If I have a girl then I'll be having a shower, probably around the end of Feb., but if it's another boy then I probably won't have a shower. Maybe a baby celebration party after he's born because my family cannot resist the urge to buy presents.

I'm headed to Great Beginnings and Buy Buy Baby this weekend to check out strollers and car seats. I'm not buying anything yet, I've just got about 12 models in mind that I want to try first. With my DS, I didn't shop around enough and I ended up with a stroller that really wasn't usuable. It was so heavy that I couldn't use it when I went out alone. My parents now have that one in their car to use. I have found through my research (which is borderline OCD my DH says) that the cheapest options are lightweight travel systems that convert separately from a car seat, to bassinet to toddler seat. Kind of an all in one stroller, but not as bulky as the traditional sets. Of course they are a bit more on the expensive side but last time I ended up with 3 different strollers: my travel system, running stroller and umbrella stroller. You can find all of them online at ebay. I just make sure the car seat is new, but I'll take a used stroller. I'll give my official review after I shop around =).

My in-laws are very well off and have generously offered to buy what baby supplies that I need. They weren't involved at all when my DS was born, so I think it's their way of apologizing for that and making sure they are here this time around. We'll see if they still feel the same way a couple of months down the road.

I haven't heard of those two stores before. Ikea was about an hour and a half away so well worth the trip. My Mom and I did other shopping and spent the night there to make it a girls' weekend so it was very nice. I was able to go for a few hours the night beofre to check everything out and then let it soak in overnight and go back to answer my questions and make my purchases the next day.
The Graco Travel system I got is the Light combo in Melbourne I think. It is very light and easy to assemble but got good reviews and is very sturdy. It has the one hand release and fold that is very important when you are holding baby. My husband was tiny and I was on the small side of avg so I am hoping we will be able to use the car seat for awhile. I think it goes to 30lbs and the stroller will be great. I'll probably add an umbrella stroller later. I feel better about having the smaller seat at first so she is more secure and can be loaded and unloaded w/o being disturbed early on.
You are the third person to warn me about the Eddie Bauer stroller. They should be stopped by what i have seen! My BF got one for her first and it was so heavy you could hardly lift it two handed and was so wide you def didn't want to run errands w/ it. This was 13 yrs ago so her front wheels didn't even pivot so you would have to lift the front end to make a turn. I recently ran into a woman at the consignment store who also warned me not to get one due to the weight and width. They both used it a handful of times and replaced it in frustration.
I have recently started searching Ebay for the stuff I want to get and am seeing great prices for new stuff.
The Dr. Sears Balboa Baby Adjustable Sling has come highly recc as the best sling type of carrier from mult mothers. They run $60 new and are selling at $30 new on Ebay but I chose a used one that I got for $10 and arrived in great shape. One of the great things about them are the mult positions you can use it in and the age/weight it goes up to. Not all babies like it though so I also have a Baby Bjorn that I got for $8 at a church consignment sale. Those are great sales if you can find them in your community.

JNoe-most of our consignment sales are in the spring, so I'm holding off on getting some things until then. I still have some things from my DS, but I'll have to check updated recalls before I use anything of his.

Ruth-not knowing is killing me too! Hopefully the little one will cooperate on Friday. I'm going at a different time in the day, so maybe the activity level will be down some. I won't drink any caffeine before I go either. Before the u/s I was firmly in the boy camp, but once the doctor and technician said they were leaning towards girl, I'm undecided. I still feel boy, but I'm not as sure. I would love to have a little girl, but I would love to have two boys too. We'll see.

Hello everyone! I'm new here, due April 1, 2010. A girl. This will be a second child for me, but my first has grown and flown the coop, so it's been a long time since I've had to think about anything baby. Just hoping to meet some other women to talk pregnancy and babies with.

Spring Chicken- Welcome! Ask anything and we'll do our best to give advice!

Ruth- I had heard about deep breaths helping to move the baby. I don't remember if you told me that or where I heard it from. I tried that last time and it didn't work, but I'll make sure to keep that in mind for tomorrow.

Jboz- Congrats on the little boy! Baby Gap has tons of cute little boy clothes this season.

Was anyone else's little one breech at the sonogram? With my DS he was already head down at 20 weeks and this one was breech at 22. They didn't seem concerned, but I'm hoping that the baby will have turned by tomorrow's sonogram. Just to give me a little piece of mind.

yes - welcome Spring Chicken!

I have a question...I went to my OB/GYN on Wednesday, and she said there was some concern about something on the U/S. Apparently, there is a 4mm "something" on the baby's right side, near or possibly on the liver. She doesnt' know what it is, but is doing more tests. I have another U/S on Dec 18. I'm worried. She said it could be a calcium deposit, or stones. Or it may be nothing...but how can I not worry? Any ideas (please try not to freak me out too much)

JNoe-Glad to hear your hubby is doing well!! Knee surgery does not sound like fun! Ikea has some really cute stuff! Espeically kids stuff! I know how you feel, we're buying most of the big stuff ourselves also, we still have to buy the crib but we got a nice dresser. COOL! Great that you could see your tummy moving! Mine seems to be kicking downwards so I'm not even sure Jay could feel it if he had his hand there. O well, all in good time. Great idea on the trash can! Never even thought of that.
We are having a shower although I have no idea when. I think we'll wait until she's here... not sure yet. You are having it before?

Book-Make sure if you're looking at the "one handed fold" that you actually test them in the store with 1 hand. A lot of them don't work very well, just something I found out when shopping. It's very nice of your in-laws to help you pay for some stuff! Jay's parents have offered to help with the crib which is nice :) On my ultrasound she was laying sideways but now she feels breach since she seems to be kicking down lately... hope she turns!!

Jboz-Congrats on the boy!!! YAY!! Book is right, baby gap has lots of cute boy stuff!

Spring Chicken-Welcome and congratulations!! We definitely know how to talk babies :) We needed another girl on the board, lots of boys lately!

Ruth-Deep breath? Hmmm.. I was thinking of poking her, lol!

Sonia-JUst keep in mind that stress is bad for you both. Hopefully it's nothing serious! At least they aren't making you wait too long before testing again. Just remember, everythign happens for a reason. My prayers are with you and I hope everything turns out ok!

Well it's definitely going to be an indoor weekend!! It's supposed to be -34 Fareignheit this weekend! Yikes!! Not sure why it's so cold since I think we are breaking old records, brrrrrrrrr...

Is everyone ready for Christmas?? Surprisingly enough, I am :) I went out last Friday night because we had a huge snow storm and anyone who didn't drive a 4x4 couldn't make it in the parking lots. :) There was NO one in the malls, it was GREAT!!!

Sonia- I know it's hard to do, but try not to worry until you know for sure something is wrong. Hopefully it is nothing, but if it's not, you can deal with that when it comes. My first u/s was abnormal because they couldn't see all of the parts they needed to and I was worried that there was something seriously wrong. I stressed for 2wks over it, but it turns out everything was fine when I went back. I'll keep you and baby in my thoughts and prayers.

Natasha- I'm planning on doing some heavy duty testing this weekend. I'm going to really pay attention to all the details and brands before I buy this time. My in-laws were very nice to offer to help, we'll see if they follow through once my husband leaves for Iraq! I'm getting close to ready for Christmas. I hope to finish the rest up this weekend. I just have parents and grandmas left to buy for. They aren't too hard to please.

Well, I had my follow up sonogram yesterday and...it's a girl! I am in total shock but thrilled beyond belief. They baby cooperated better this time and they were able to get all of the measurements. They couldn't tell the sex until the very end. The technician had me get up and go to the bathroom and walk around for a few minutes to try and get the baby to move. She even resorted to poking the baby for me, but hey it worked! Everything looks good, but my doctor will go over everything with me next week. I had to reschedule my reg. appointment with my OB because the office was really behind schedule (running almost and hour late) and I would have missed my u/s.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Thanks Everyone! Vixen, for your chart: u/s was Nov 4. Next appt is Dec 23. The name is a surprise :)

Right now I'm marveling at her movements. Seriously, my belly looks like a scene from Aliens sometimes! Last night, she was moving around so enthusiastically, that I swear that I could tell what she was kicking me with (elbow, I think -- it seemed kind of sharp and pointy anyway, lol). And I'm also amazed at how large I am getting. I've gained 17 pounds so far and most of it is in my belly, although I have to admit, my thighs *are* getting a bit larger too, and I can definitely see some weight on my face. When I was pregnant with my first, I didn't even have to think about maternity clothes until 6 months, but with this one, it was much earlier. I'm a little concerned with how big she will grow. I am not very big myself, and I really would like a natural vaginal birth. I mean, I'll be happy so long as everyone is healthy, but I can't help but worry a bit about the delivery. What are your experiences with and thoughts on delivery? I think so much has changed since the last time, I just don't know. Although that's kind of silly to say isn't it...women have basically been giving birth exactly the same way for millenia!

bookworm1536

Vixen-I tested out the strollers and brought my list of questions. Some lady asked me for my opinion on two strollers that she was trying to decide between! It was so funny. I decided to get the Peg Perego Skate. The gentleman that was helping me(it was strange; there were no women sales associates in this store) let me know that they would be getting the 2010 models in after Christmas and he suggested that I wait until then, because the price would be significantly reduced. So that's what I decided to do. It's a little pricey, but it'll last from newborn to at least 3 because my DS can ride in it comfortably and he's tall for his age.

Spring Chicken- my belly is moving like that too! It freaks me out because we still have a ways to go and she already seems like she's running out of room. She only weighs a 1lb. and 6oz. now, what is it going to feel like when she's closer to 8lbs! How big was your first? This baby is measuring a bit big for her age, but my DS did the same thing. He weighed 8lbs. 8oz. I'm 5'3" and I was able to have vaginal birth with him, so I wouldn't worry about it. And how much weight you gain isn't always indicative of how big the baby will be. If the doctor's are concerned about the size of the baby, they may induce a little early.

Hi Bookworm, my daughter was 6 lbs 8 oz, so a small-normal size. Even then, they were concerned about a possible C-section because of my size, but she was a perfect size. The labour was easy and quick, no problems. I know the second ones show faster and bigger, but holy cow! I grow every day I think, lol! I know not all of it is baby. I'd say a good few pounds are boobs alone! From a 32A to a 36C (and counting...). Was that TMI? It's another thing I'm pretty amazed at, I'm not used to having cleavage, or even having to bother with a bra. My husband's impressed :)

My next appointment is 1/5/10

My bra size has went from a small 34b to a very full 36c. I wish they would stay. They look great haha But we all know they will soon go away

I have been having the weirdest problem lately. My belly button is killing me. It feels like it is ripping open. i did use to have it pierced so maybe that’s why but that didn’t happen with my first. If it continues I will have to call the doctor. That sounds do silly... "my belly button is killing me" but it is! Anyways is anyone else having this weird problem

The little man is moving around some.. but I can't see it on the outside yet. And my husband can't feel it. Maybe soon since I am 19.5 weeks.

My next appointment is tomorrow. I was actually able to get an evening appointment so I don't have to take time off from work. I think they will just be going over my ultrasound with me and doing the usual tummy check and measurements. Has anyone had the glucose test done? I think it's usually done between 22-28wks., but I could be wrong.

Jboz-I haven't had the belly button problem. But I can definitely feel my skin getting more tender. I just try to use a lot of lotion and keep it moisturized. Do you have an inny or an outy belly button?

My DH and I are having the hardest time thinking of names. We had been talking boys names and had come up with a few that we both liked, but I honestly thought I was having a boy and we hadn't even considered girl names. I have already decided that I'm not telling any family the name until she's born because they all have to offer their opinions and I really don't want to be talked out of a name I love. My DH and I just have such opposite tastes in names. Hopefully he'll give me final say if we can't come up with anything before he leaves. This may be a baby that I have to see before I can name her.

Nikki - My Last appointment was on Dec 9th...and I was 23 weeks...she asked me to do the glucose test at the same time as my next apointment (Jan 7th), and so I'll be 27 weeks at the time. I'm not sure if that's the normal timing...just thought I'd let you know!

Well ladies, I just got a call from my OB and I have to have another u/s tomorrow! This will be my 4th! They said that they couldn't see the umbilical cord and blood flow clearly and they want to make sure that there isn't a problem. So they are sending me to a specialist. It sounds like it is going to be one of the 3-D sonograms. They made it seem like they think everything is ok, but they just want to make sure and be on the safe side. But I can't help but worry. My appointment is at 2:30 tomorrow, so I'll make sure that I update when I find out what is going on. Just please keep me and my little one in your thoughts and prayers.

So I ended up having to go to the doctor today because my belly button area was in sooooo much pain last night. My husband was trying (begging me) to get to go to the ER last night. I waited until this morning and they said tha hopefully it is just a strain but that if it continues to hurt bad then they will send me to a surgen because it might be a hurneria. (spell?) And if it is a hurneria then they would not be able to do surgery unless it is life or death for me or the baby. They gave me pain meds so pretty much all and all I have to tough it out. The pain was so bad last night. I was worst than contractions (with my 1st) I am feeling better after taking the pain med so hopefully this will all just pass and I wont have to go to the surgery He would actually send me there if it continues because they might give me a catscan which would totally me last resort because it gives the baby so much radation..and I feel guily enough taking the pain meds.
Let just pray that this pain passes.
They only perk...I got an ultrasound today and he has gain 3 oz in a week :) and he is still a boy

Jboz- sorry to hear about your pain! I wouldn't feel bad about taking the pain meds during pregnancy. If they weren't safe for you baby then the doctor wouldn't have given them to you. Plus being in pain can also harm the baby because of rises in blood pressure, so you are just doing what is best for you and the little one. I hope that the pain meds work and that you won't need them for long. Good for you, looking on the bright side-You gotta love those sonograms!

Thank goodness my DH is able to go to this sonogram with me today. I was too nervous to go by myself just in case there is something wrong. I am looking forward to seeing my baby girl again, but hopefully this will be the last time so that I can just rest easy.

Ruth- I think we are going to have to compromise on the name thing. I pick first name he picks middle name. He basically named our son, so I think it's my turn.

Hello all,

Well we (Edmonton, Alberta) got the distinct reward of being the coldest place ON EARTH on Saturday. I'm SO done with the cold and it's finally warming up, thankfully. We beat previous records by over 10 degrees! -46 Celcius so that's -50.8 Farenheit, I don't ever want to see that temperature again!!

I've been cooped up inside and going CRAZY!! We decided to paint the master bedroom but because of my SI joint pain we have to do it in steps because it hurts so much so quickly now. I'm going on 5 days straight of severe pain :( I had a massage last night and it dulled it a bit but it's still there... OUCH!

Nikki-I'm glad you tested all the strollers and found one. I've found alot of people who just buy instead of doing their homework and they are always the ones who complain! What a helpful salesman to give you that hint, I love people like that!! CONGRATS on the girl, we needed another one :) I haven't had a glucose test done, is it a blood or pee test though? Lord knows I think we've all peed in enough cups to last a lifetime!!
Names are very hard to decide on, maybe you could compromise and tell him if he lets you pick the first name he can pick the middle. SInce he's not going to be here it must be even more difficult.
I'm sure this next u/s is precautionary but I'll keep you in my prayers anyways! HOpe everything goes ok, keep up updated!!

Spring-Cool, my stomach feels like an alien but we can't see it yet and Jay can't feel it but she seems to be kicking down which could be why. Honestly, I'm terrified of delivery! This is my first so I don't have any experiences so I don't know what to expect. I went up a full cup size and down a band size, 1 cup size doesn't sound to bad but I started out at an G so they are even heavier now! lol! I'm sure your husband is

Ruth-I know! I'm SUPER exhausted lately too!! THe last week has been horrible! Being cooped up inside sucks!

Jboz-OMGosh! I hope it's just a sprain too! SOunds painful!! A hernia would NOT be good at this point! I'll keep you in my prayers too :)

Sonia-Wow, you said you'd be 27 weeks... do you know there is only 13 weeks left after that!!! Holy smokes!!!! Time is flying!

Best of luck to everyone with appointments today! HOping for the best!
Is everyone ready for Christmas?? I LOVE Christmas and am super excited!!

Vixen- the glucose test is a blood test where they make you drink this really sugary drink and then you have to wait for an hour and they test your blood to see what the glucose level is. They do this to help diagnose gestational diabetes and I'm not sure if that is the main reason or not. I'm waiting for the rest of my Christmas gifts to arrive. I ordered everything online this year, already gift wrapped, so I should be good to go by Monday.

As for the sonogram news. They found that the baby has a two vessel cord. Normally the umbilical cord has two arteries that carry waste away from the baby and one vein that carries blood, oxygen and nutrients to the baby. My baby's cord only has one artery and one vein. They said that it's not too uncommon, and as long as that is the only issue than it's easily managed. They checked and there appear to be no chromosomal abnormalities and the baby is growing well
(1lb.12oz). They are going to continue to monitor the growth with u/s and make sure they didn't miss any other problems (kidney disorders are sometimes associated with a two vessel cord). The doctor's seem optimistic though. I go for my regular OB check up tonight, so hopefully they can give me some kind of idea about the sonogram schedule that I will have.

I recently had an appointment and everything looks good. I am 24 weeks! My next appointment is on the 11th and I will take the glucose test...yuck! Not a fan of the orange drink... My fiance and I have come up with the name Gabriel. I have two questions for everyone...kinda embarrassing... 1, Does anyone else have a smelly discharge? I have to change my undies a few times a day. I've been wearing pads sometimes and have to use a ton of a baby powder. 2, my sex drive..well there is none. I havent had any desire to do anything sexual with my fiance in months..Anybody else experiencing this?... My due date is still april 2nd, but I have a feeling he will come in the middle of march. My doctor induced me 3 weeks before my due date for my daughter... I'm feeling a lot of kicks, especially at night and also when I am carrying my daughter. Who else is feeling kicks?

Vixen - my next ob appt is Dec. 22.

My bellybutton is starting to go out and it's not much of an innie anymore. However, my psoriasis (which is on my stomach, back, and scalp) has moved into the bellybutton so that's been uncomfy. I already have extremely sensitive skin and dry skin when the cold weather hits, but since pregnancy it has been horrible. I have scabs from the dryness in several places. Going to see the dermatolgist in January since this pregnancy has made the psorasis and dry skin thing worse. Ughhh...

Anyone experiencing lower back pain yet? I teach all day and hardly sit so I'm thinking that has something to do with my pain. It's been pretty bad. The other day I think the baby sat on a nerve b/c I had this shooting pain that starting in my lower back and went up - it lasted for about a minute and then went away. My sister said that happened to her which made me feel better b/c I thought something was seriously wrong.

Ok, enough complaining. Good things -- I have been feeling my little man move a lot. Some days he is so active and others he has been more calm. I wish my hubby could feel him but every time he tries the baby stops.

Has anyone thought of baby showers yet? I live in north Louisiana, but most of my family/friends are in south La, so I've been told I'm having 2! Yay! I think we are having a couples shower and also the girly shower. Looking forward to both!

Oh and I brought home some baby stuff that my sis-in-law gave me, and my cat has been pissed off at me ever since. She has completely ignored me! She used to be attached to me when I was at home, now it's like I don't exist to her :(

Spring Chicken

Youngmm: From what I've read, increased dishcharge is normal during pregnancy, but it shouldn't smell bad. If it does, you could have an infection -- a UTI or yeast, for example. A UTI, as far as I know, can have serious consequences for the baby so you should go get it checked out. As for the sex stuff...I find it's hard to feel sexy when I'm 20 pounds heavier than normal (all concentrated in one area of my body) constantly feeling mildly (or severely) nauseated, and, oh, the exhaustion! And even if I were feeling sexy, the pragmatics alone are difficult, what with that big belly. I don't care what they say about just trying different positions, it's difficult, period. You sound pretty normal to me :)

Latech: that's funny about your cat. I've been wondering how my animals (dog and cat) are going to react to the new baby. They haven't cared at all about the gear we've brought home, but they are used to a peaceful, quiet home. They are older too. The dog will be 11 in the spring, and the cat, 12. Seeing as how I'm older as well, and also used to a peaceful, quiet home, I guess we can all adjust together :)

I've been trying to figure out what I need for the baby. My sister in law is throwing me a shower and wants me to do a gift registry. I haven't come up with very much. Infants don't need a lot, it seems to me, but they also grow quickly and I may not be anticipating future needs very well. Does anyone have a list of what is needed for, say, the first year? I already bought cloth diapers, and have been given a diaper pail, infant bath, infant car seat & bassinette. We also have a dresser for her and a few little items of clothing. I've put a baby sling on my registry. What else do we need?

Latech- I haven’t been having the lower back pain yet, but I am sitting at a desk for most of the day. I also have a heating pad for my office chair that feels great when I do sit down. I wish that my belly button was an outie. Mine is just kind of flat and stretched out, not attractive! As for baby showers, my family is going to give me one, but it will be all girls. I’m thinking around the end of February to give everyone time to re-cooperate from the holidays.
Ruth- Congrats on the new job! It sounds great. It’s good that you already have so much baby stuff. The stress of making sure you have everything is a lot to handle sometimes.
Youngmm- Spring Chicken is right-more discharge is normal, but if it smells different, than I would have my doctor check it out just to be on the safe side. I had a yeast infection with this pregnancy and the doctor said that it’s a common occurrence in the second trimester, so it could be that.
Spring Chicken- As for baby needs, here’s what I liked: stroller (since you already have a car seat, you could get one of the universal frames that the car seat will snap into), baby swing, baby bouncy seat, exersaucer (you won’t really use this until they are about 4 months old, but my DS loved his), tummy mat with toys on it. I also used a lot of hats, socks and onesies but by DS was born in January so depending on where you live, you may not need so many in April. The infant gowns were great for night time because it made late night diaper changes much easier. I didn’t have a changing table last time but I am getting one this time because I need the extra shelves.
As for me, I’m feeling much better about the two vessel cord. I’m trying to think positive thoughts and not worry about something that I don’t even know I should be worrying about. My DH leaves 2 weeks from tomorrow for training and it’s finally starting to hit me. I will probably see him a total of 7 days in the next year. It’s crazy, but ultimately there’s nothing I can do to change it, so I’ll just have to enjoy the holidays with him and spend my time after that getting ready for baby!

Bookworm: you will see your husband for just 7 days in 2010? Is he in the military? Wow! I thought I was hard done by because my husband is leaving for about a month in January for work. Apparently, that's nothing. Do you have other children too? Thank you for the suggestions. I'm in Canada (although the west coast) so April will still be chilly. Plus, I think she's coming in March, although my intuition on everything else so far this pregnancy has been wrong!

Spring Chicken- My DH is in the Army and he'll be deploying in January to Iraq. When my DS was born, he was in Kosovo on a NATO mission and he'll be gone for this little one too. The timing is really inconvenient, but there are a lot of things that are good about it. Good benefits, a nice salary, but it stinks not seeing him for so long. I have a feeling that this will be coming early too. Everything with this pregnancy has been completely different than the first time around and my DS was 5 days past his due date, so this little one will probably be early!

I've been having some pretty intense back pain recently. Started off small, but has progressed into some pretty severe, crippling pain at times. Today, I was taking a leisurely stroll around the college campus here and the pain got so bad, I had to stop someone to use their phone to call my husband to come get me to bring me to my car. Thankfully I ran into her...I don't know what I would have done if not since the campus is pretty cleared out due to the holiday. The clinic I go to said it was round ligament pain, but I looked it up and the sites said that it was more pain in the pelvic area and I don't have that. It does hurt there sometimes but it comes from the pain in the back first and then moves to the stomach area - kind of like my back is putting the pressure there. It goes away after about half an hour, but boy it is worrisome. When the intense pain goes away, a slight ache resides there for the rest of the time. Anyone experiencing anything like this? It just doesn't feel normal...
OB appt is tomorrow so I guess that's good timing to talk about it more in detail. Only talked to my doc's nurse today.

Latech, any pain that is "severe and crippling" doesn't sound good. I can see how it might be muscular though. Maybe not round ligament, I've had that and it doesn't present (at least for me) the way you are describing, but there is now an unusual amount of weight for your back to support now, and it's mostly concentrated in one area, which is bound to torque the back muscles and abdominals a bit. It's good you're going to see the OB today. Good luck, I'm sure everything is OK, but it's nice to have the reassurance.

I had a scary thing happen this morning! I was in a car accident, but it seemed to be pretty minor. There was an ambulance and fire truck on the scene and I feel ok. I did call my doctor and she advised me to watch myself for symptoms of early labor, bleeding or anything like that. I took some Tylenol because I have a headache from the adrenaline rush, and I'm just going to take it easy and monitor any change in the baby. I have been feeling her move all morning, so that does make me feel much better.

How is everyone else? In the Christmas spirit I hope!

latech
12-23-2009, 04:40 PM
Bookworm - that is scary! Good thing you and baby are doing ok. Feeling movement would make me feel better too! Just get some rest and take it easy! I was walking out of a store today in a busy shopping strip and a car almost hit me as I was walking - came within inches. It's crazy out there right now so everyone be careful!

Doc appt yesterday went well. I'm measuring up perfectly with my due date. I've been worried about that b/c I'm not good about my vitamins. They make me so sick so I rarely take them. But I do eat a lot of fruits, veggies, juice, protein etc.

My severe back pain seems to be my uterus sitting on my nerves back there. Doc said as it grows the uterus should shift away from that area - but it's probably just tucked up in there for now. Nothing serious, so that's good.

Hope everyone is doing well! Have a safe and happy holiday! Next year's will be even better with a new little one :)

latech- I'm glad your appointment went well. It's always reassuring the hear that everything is fine. I would say as long as you eat a balanced diet, then the vitamins aren't as important. How relieving to finally know what is causing all of your pain! Hopefully the baby switches positions soon.

I went ahead and went to see my OB after hours yesterday, just because I was really sore. Plus, whenever anything happens to me, I google it. And all of the information on the internet is so overwhelming and some of it is downright scary. So I decided that I needed a little reassurance that everything was ok. I didn't go straight to my doctor because in order to see him I would have to be admitted to the hospital, so I went to the Urgent Care thinking that they would listen to the heartbeat, check for bleeding and that would be it. Oh no, they gave me such a hard time about not coming in immediately, about driving, how I could hemorrage and have another accident. So they really freaked me out and they ended up transferring me to the hospital I would have gone to originally. It was such a mess. I was there from 6:30-8:30 and then in the hospital from 9-1 on a fetal monitor. But thankfully I can rest easy over the holidays because I know for certain that everything is OK.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Hey all- Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Any big plans for New Years? My DS' birthday is on Monday, so we are doing his birthday party this weekend before my DH leaves for deployment. I was sore over the weekend from my accident, but I'm feeling better now. Nothing that a couple Tylenol doesn't take care of! Now I am just waiting for all of the medical bills to come in.

Ruth-My stage of eating everything in sight has ended. Now I can hardly eat anything! It makes me so uncomfortable and I have been having terrible heart burn no matter what I eat. How exciting that you can see Justin moving! My little one is so active, I have no idea what I'm going to do when she is fully grown in there! I'm afraid she'll break my ribs!

Hey everyone. Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Well my OB is sending me to a surgon on Monday. I am still having severe pains in my belly around my belly button area. They are thinking it might be a hurnia. So he wants the surgon to evaluate me and see what he thinks. They said they wouldn't do surgery unless it is life or death for me and/or the baby. So lets all keep our fingers cross that doesn't happen. But I am going in to this very positive. The pain is bad mostly in the afternoons after a full day.
They baby seems to be doing great to me. He moves alot so that makes me feel better.. I know Ill get though this.
Other than that.. everything is good. Just the normal (awful) heartburn.
All of this will be worth it. :)

Hope all is well with yal :) It is almost 2010.. the year of our babies birth :)

Book-Glad to hear your accident didn't cause too much pain! When does your DH leave again? Next week?? We don't have big plans for New Years, either stay in or go over to my parents and play games. U?

Jboz-Ugh, sorry to hear that!! My prayers are with you!! Keep us updated.

Well I had a doctors appointment yesterday and it was a bad news appointment. He found sugar in my urine so I needed a gestational diabetes test today. Not fun!! PLUS, he suggested I not work anymore. He said the pain from my SI joint is putting strain on my body and the babe... Argh!! That means I;d have to go on medical leave and only bring in 55% of my salary :( Then when the baby is born I'd start my year's maternity leave... I feel SO useless!!!!!! My husband and I are fighting over it because he thinks I should not work and I want to try and work until the end of January; it's causing a lot of tension :( Any suggestions??

Vixen- New Year's for us will probably just be my little family plus my sister and her boyfriend. We usually just play games too and have a bunch of finger foods. Nothing too exciting. We leave for his pre-deployment prep on Monday night and then he'll be flying down to Mississippi on Friday the 8th. The first 6-8weeks won't be bad because he'll still be in the states and we can talk regularly. It's once he gets overseas that the phone calls are a lot less frequent. I've been preparing myself though for a long time and I feel ready for the separation as much as I can be. I am just worried about after the baby is born and the baby blues. That wasn't an issue for me last time and I hope that the same is true with this one. I hate calling her "little one" or "the baby" but we still don't have a name and it's driving me insane!

As far as the work situation goes I say, you know your body best. Listen to the doctor and your DH, but you do what you think is best for you and baby. Is there a way that you could work from home or maybe cut down on the hours? I know that towards the end of my pregnancy I am going to be cutting down on hours as much as my work will allow. So are they are just testing for gestational diabetes right? They don't know for sure that you have it? Let us know what the test says and what you decide to do about work.

Book-We're doing the game & finger snacks this year too. I don't really like crowds. Enjoy the last couple days with your DS. We haven't been sharing our name ideas so we're just calling it "her" lol! I know what you mean though.

Can't do modified duties or anything. I had an appointment with my obgyn this morning and he agreed with my GP, I'll be "lucky" if I make it to the end of January. I HATE where I work so it's probably better this way. I'm thinking I'll give them a heads up on Monday and either work until Jan 15 or try to the end of the month.
Gestational diabetes test was negative!!! But I have to have another one at the regular time (28 wks). At least it was negative!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! 2010 is going to be a great one!!!!!

Happy 2010 everyone!
Vixen: Glad your test was negative.
Ruth: I love the description of your eating day! I'm mellowing out, but it's nice to hear that other people also eat all the way through the day. When I finally got over morning sickness (which was 3 months of horrible) and could eat again, I found I become very possessive of certain foods. My husband began to run his food choices by me before he ate them, just in case.

And now for everyone: I'm wondering does anyone have a problem with restless legs at night? I'm not sure it's really "restless legs" because I don't exactly know what it is, but it's this nervy discomfort that makes my legs and feet jerk. It's impossible to sleep through. I've tried relaxation techniques (relaxing my body from the toes on up), I've tried meditating and focussing on my breathing, I've tried just giving in to the jerking in the hopes it will work itself out. None of those things work, and it's keeping me up for hours. I've noticed it's worse the more tired I am. Anyone else experience this? Any solutions?

Any updates for the above??

Ruth-O yea, I remember you mentioning the firework stand now that you mention it. Yea, Christmas came and went FAST!! I just finished taking my tree down and re-organizing the living room.. fun times... lol, Ruth you're eating for 2 :) As long as you are eating healthy I don't think it should be a problem.

Spring - I have heard of restless legs although I haven't had that problem. Are you getting cramps as well?? Maybe a heating pack before you go to bed?? Pillows?? I wonder if walking would help or hinder?? Sorry I can't be of much help... just throwing ideas out there.

latech-I couldn't imagine teaching all day, I can't even walk for 2-3 hours a day without having sever back pain. I don't know how you do it!! My opinion is that "shooting pain" or anything severe is worth mentioning to your doctor.

We are almost done the 2nd trimester already!!! Where did the time go?!? 2/3 of the way there!!

Vixen - my next ob appt is Jan 18. I don't have another u/s scheduled unless the doc requires it.

My back pain has worsened - and i've been off my feet for 2 weeks during my christmas vacation. It's so random - I can be sitting there and all of a sudden I get this shooting pain in my lower rightside back. Sometimes te pain goes through my right side and down my leg. Nothing helps the pain - it just usually goes away on it's own. I'm soooooo worried about starting to teach again - I am not the type of teacher to sit all day; I like to walk around and stand up but I'm just going to have to force myself to sit on a stool at my podium. I teach high school so it's not a necessity that I'm up all period and I only teach 5 periods and get the last 2 periods off. So I'll use those last 2 hours to rest up and stay on a heating pad. Doc just keeps telling me it's the baby on my nerves. I'm worried that as the baby grows it'll get worse. Today it was so bad that I just cried for half an hour. I really want a second opinion to be on the safe side...what do ya'll think? And how do I go about doing that?
We went shopping yesterday so I was on my feet for about 5 hours- needless to say my back was killing me, my body hurt like hell, and I was so exhausted. And I'm not even that big - I've gained 4 lbs and I really don't have a huge bump that would cause such pain :( I'm so worried about teaching...

Ok, I'm going to stop complaining. On the upside - my husband has been totally supportive :) And I can feel Colin move around all the time. I get really excited about that. I love the feeling.

Happy New Year everyone! It's the year our lives will change forever :)

Vixen- My next appt. is Jan 29 no more us unless dr says so. The name we decided on is Braiden Michael, our dd "likes it best". Glad ur test was neg. I hope you can work as long as your body will allow.

Ruth- If you're hungry why not eat. lol As long as the foods are somewhat healthy. I have the opposite problem, the thought of eating makes me want to get sick. This all day sickness sucks.

Latech- Sorry to hear about your leg pains. I had those with my dd (6 yrs ago) they seemed to stay forever. I hope yours go away soon.

All is going well here. I hope everyone had a great Christmas & New Years.

Vixen- my next dr.'s appt. is January 18th and my next u/s is Jan. 14th. We still haven't decided on a name yet, but I'll let you know if a miracle happens! I'm glad your diabetes test was negative. When do you go for the regualr glucose screening? I have mine at my dr.'s appt. on the 18th.

Ruth- if you were underweight before pregnancy, then you have more weight to gain. It sounds like you are eating healthy and as long as the doctor isn't concerned about weight gain and your glucose test comes back negative, then I say eat what you want. Your body knows what it needs. I normally cannot stand to drink milk and water, but that's all I can stomach. I did a little end of the season shopping this weekend too. I got a lot of cute stuff from BabyGap and Jacadi. I tried to get stuff to fit for next fall/winter, but sometimes it's hard to gauge what size they will be.

latech-I agree with Ruth-it sounds like sciatica pain. I had that a couple of years back, but never related to pregnancy. My little one is on a nerve that affects my right hip/leg and it will just go numb for a while. If you feel like you need a second opinion, then get one. I don't know if you would need to see another OB or maybe someone who specializes in back/nerve pain. Sorry, I'm not much help.

I may be MIA for a few days because the DH and I are headed down for his deployment prep tonight. He leaves for advanced training on Friday. He will get to come back for a long weekend before he goes overseas so at least I have that to look forward to. Hope everyone has a great day!

latech - this may nto be what you want to hear, but remember that your doc sees a lot of pregos, and the advice is given for a good reason. My right "hip" has been bothering me a lot lately...and it's starting to worry me. I know that goign on leave isn't easy, however think about how bad it could be if you work longer than you should...then the baby is born, and you can barely walk?? that's going to make your life a lot worse.

I have found that sitting in a recliner with a pillow at my lower back and 2 under my knees really helps to take the pressure off of my back. But sleeping and sitting at work seem to aggrevate it. Also - walking to omuch aggrevates it too. Seems that you can't win this one! Good luck...I hope you feel better!

ruth-You had some busy holidays! Were you working the entire time?? Hope you had some time to relax. March 13 is your shower? Wow, your family is way ahead in the planning department :) I think I want my shower after she is born.

nsmith-Braiden is a great name :) I like it!

Well, The doctor has officially told me not to work. My last day is Jan 15... It's going to be a LONG wait for baby to show :( It's going to hurt the pocket book but I have no choice... Sonia, it kinda sounds like you have something similar to me, the SI joint problem. Lying down, sitting, walking, everything aggrivates it. I hope it isn't!

Hi! I thought I would take a second to introduce myself. I haven't had the time to read through all 32 pages of responses, but I guess I belong here. I met some wonderful ladies on the TTC page and hope I can meet some here.

My name is Kimberly. I have a beautiful 18 mo old DD named Claire Corinne. I am due April 11 to have my first son, however, because of gestational diabetes and a history of quick labor in my family, I will probably be induced between a week or 2 early. I had an ultrasound in late November (around 20 weeks) and everything looked good, although he was a week bigger than he was supposed to be. We are thinking about naming him Logan, although the middle name is so much in contention (either Hansen or Paul) that the first name may also change. Hansen is the middle name of all boys on my DH's side of the family while Paul is my father's name. We will see when he is born.

Anyways, I know it is kind of late in the forum to join, but I thought I would say hi and see how it goes!

Welcome Angelsrose!

I just want to say...my really innie belly button has disappeared!!! So weird!

I've just decided to just deal with the back issue...I've been taking it easy while teaching and it has seemed to help.

Vixen - It's probably best to stay home, but man that's gotta be frustrating. I rely on going to work everyday to pass the time and days. Time would move so slow if I couldn't work :( At least you can pick up a new hobby, do some online shopping, read, etc!

Hope all is well with everyone!

I'm posting a pic of me and my baby belly and a pic of my little Colin! Anyone else wanna post some pics?

Hey ladies
It is a hernia . The surgeon is monitoring me every 4 weeks and my OB every 2 weeks. My OB doc cut my hours to 6 hours a day. There hoping it doesn’t get to big that it will harm the baby because if they do surgery now it would put me in to labor. So they will wait and after I have the baby and my uterus goes down and do surgery on it. So probably when the baby is 6weeks old..
Ugh It hurts!! They gave me pain med so that helps some. Blah blah I hate complaining!
I know this is all worth it I know :)

Oh my gosh yes, the rib kicking. Sometimes it feels like she's worked her way under there entirely and is just pushing outwards. It can be painful. I wish I knew what she was up to in there. Sometimes it feels like she's one of those break dancers (do they still call them that? Break dancers?) lying on her back and spinning around in circles with her legs. To be honest, pregnancy at this point seems mostly uncomfortable and really, I can't see that I could be any more sleep deprived after her arrival. I know I'm supposed to be enjoying this time. I find it fascinating, and I'm quite happy to be expecting, but it's not exactly enjoyable. It's interesting how your body prepares you for what's coming up. I wake up several times a night to pee, several times because I need to change positions, and several times just because. It seems to me that waking up several times a night to tend to a little one would be an improvement -- at least I would have more sleeping positions to choose from!

On a different topic, I'm heading to the library soon...any suggestions for reading material? Non-baby related, just looking for a really good book. I tend to like historical fiction, something I can sink my teeth into.

I haven't felt rib kicking...maybe because he is lower since I get the pains from the nerve pinching in my lower back. I teach with someone who is also preg and she constantly feels her baby kicking her ribs as well. She is due in Feb though.

Sorry Springchicken - the only books I've read recently are the ones I've assigned to my 9th grade World Geography classes. They are really good books though: "Endless Steppe", "Bottle in the Gaza Sea" and "Facing the Lion: Growing up Masaai". Not historical fiction though. Sorry I'm no help. I wish I had time to read more :( Last adult book I read was "Geography of Bliss" - again not historical fiction but a pretty interesting read. Hope you find something interesting!

Hi again! Spring Chicken, this is my second, and TRUST ME! You get LOTS more sleep at this stage than when they are born! I never thought so either, but when my little angel was born, she never slept more than 2 hours straight. My MIL used to ask me if I needed anything and I would just beg her to come over and just let me sleep for a couple extra hours. It was all worth it of course, but it was tough at the time!

As for good books to read, I read the Highlander romance series a while ago. It was a good historical fiction read. More recently I read a young adult book called "Hunger Games" (I teach 6th grade and read their books sometimes) and it was VERY good! You may not think it is going to be that great being a young adult book, but it was one of the best books I have read in a long time. The sequel is "Catching Fire," and I finished it in just a couple of days. It is a post apocolyptic type of book. There is going to be a third, but it won't be out until August.

Oh no, Angel, I'm going to have one of those sleep though the night babies. LOL! This is my second as well, but there's a huge age gap (almost 20 years) between the two, so I really don't remember all the details. In many ways, it's like having my first. I like some YA books. I loved The Giver, and I've read all the Harry Potters. I'll have a look at Catching Fire. Thanks!

Latech: I checked out Geography of Bliss on Amazon. It looks great. I wonder if it's at the library yet?

Angelsrose- Welcome to the group! My DH and I are having some disagreements over names as well, but hopefully when I see her I will just know which name to pick!

Spring Chicken- I love historical fiction as well. I prefer books from the Plantagenent and Tudor periods, but I don't know what period you like. Some of my favorite authors for that time period are Anne Easter Smith Jean Plaidy. I really enjoyed The Pillars of the Earth and its sequel World Without End which happens around the 12th century in England if I remember correctly.

Vixen- I hope that staying home will be a good thing for you. A nice and relaxing time before the baby comes. I am going to try and work until the baby is born, but knowing that I don't have to be there is going to make it tough to stick out. It does help me to pass the time though since my DH is gone, it's nice to have something to keep me busy.

Jboz- I'm glad they finally figured out what was going one. Hopefully they can hold off on fixing it til after the little one is here.

Ruth-I am supposed to have my my glucose test next monday, but I think that they are doing it late. I'll be 29 weeks then and I thought they said that it needed to be done by 28 weeks, but they haven't called to reschedule. I don't get rib kicks because my baby is still breech and her legs are down. She feels like she bounces from one hip bone to the other!

As for me, the DH left on Friday. So if I sound a little blue for the next couple of weeks that's why. He gets to come back for 4 days in March before leaving for Iraq, so at least I have that to look forward to. Hope everyone has a nice weekend and I'm sorry if I forgot anyone!

Bookworm: Pillars of Earth looked really good when I checked it out on Amazon. the library had it, but it was in for repair. I'm not sure if "historical fiction" is exactly the label I'm looking for, but I'm not sure what else to call it. I like books that tell a story about a real person and also about the time they lived in, but are written in novel format. There was a book called The Girl from Botany Bay that I really liked. Also The Big Stink (about the London sewer system). Another one that was about grave robbing in 18th century London, can't remember the title though. For some reason, the royals don't interest me as much as the common people whose stories aren't as easily remembered, but are fascinating nonetheless. I found a Jon Krakauer book at the library yesterday called Under the Banner of Heaven. It seems a little on the gruesome side, but so far it has delivered some interesting history on the Mormon church, a topic I know next to nothing about.

My husband left on Friday as well. He will be gone anywhere from a month to 6 weeks, I figure, so I can commiserate. He says he misses me but that his sleep is much better now that he's not beside someone who has to get up four times a night to pee and who tosses and turns trying to get her pregnant body comfortable enough to sleep.

Back to pregnancy: I've been experiencing what I *think* might be BH contractions. There's a heavy downward pressure on my pelvis (not the bladder, the whole pelvic floor) and my lower abdomen then tightens right up. I can feel the tightening with the hand. The whole lower abdomen hardens. I guess she could just be pressing her head outwards though. It doesn't hurt, although it isn't super comfortable. Is this BH? Or am I just grasping at any straws that prove that I won't, in fact, be pregnant forever? Any other moms experience this?

Spring Chicken

Ruth: I have never heard of any correlation between very active and preterm babies. I googled it, but didn't get any definitive answers. Mine is very active too. In fact, my husband can now feel her moving when he lies beside me in bed -- without touching me -- just the vibrations that move through the mattress. I personally think she's going to come a few weeks early, but who knows? She's clearly a big baby, and I'm a small mum, so that may factor into it as well. And regularity? The importance can not be underestimated! Oh, the things we take for granted. Good luck on your glucose test. I had mine last week, but won't know the results until next dr. appt. which is on the 18th. I'm mostly curious to see how my iron pans out this time. After being diagnosed with anemia, I've been (more or less) faithfully taking iron pills. I'd really like to know if they are doing any good.

I'm also wondering about birth plans. Has anyone written one out? I've been reading about them, and they seem quite common, but they also seem to set mothers up for disappointment if it doesn't go according to plan. What would you put in a birth plan? I intend to tell my doctor my preference is for a natural birth, but clearly, if medical intervention is required for baby's and my health, intervene away. That's not really a plan though, is it?

Angelsrose12
01-12-2010, 04:41 PM
My little girl was active when I was pregnant with her, and I was induced a week early. I actually think she might have come early anyways though. I was 3 cm dialated when I arrived at the hospital and she was out within 6 hours. I was induced because I had Gestational Diabetes and they were expecting a big baby. She was 8lbs 1oz. This one is pretty active too, but I can't even remember as a basis of comparison which one would be more active. He seems to be stronger at this point though!

As for birth plans, I went to a birthing class for my daughter and both my husband and I thought it was a HUGE waste of time and money. Most of the stuff that I actually felt prepared for, the doctor prepared me for or I could have found out online. A lot of it scared me too because they kept saying how inducing can make labor last way longer, you have a higher chance of C-section, and that the contractions are more painful. I knew I was probably going to be induced, so this just made me more nervous. They did recommend we come up with a birth plan while we were there, but it seemed to go out the window when we were there. It is so hard to predict what is going to happen, and there are so many variables to consider.

Example 1: I knew I wanted an epidural, but my spine was curved, and it took 3 or 4 tries to get the needle in. While I felt it was worth it afterwards, I am not sure if the contractions or having the epidural put in was worse. Plus, my back hurt for about 3 months where they stuck me. If I go into labor naturally and the contactions are not as strong, I am not sure I would get it again....BUT if they are just as bad, the 15 min of pain might have been worth the 4 hours I had in comfort.

Example 2: Also, I wanted to breastfeed my baby, but her blood glucose level was so low that she needed food RIGHT away. She wouldn't latch, so they bottle fed. My PLAN was to breastfeed, but she never latched after that. I wasn't prepared for that, but having not experienced it, it is hard to know to plan for it. This time, I will be prepared with a tube to tape to my breast and a syringe of either breastmilk or formula if the problem is the same. That way it is more like breastfeeding rather than bottle feeding.

Example 3: I didn't think I wanted to hold my baby until she was cleaned off, but when she came out I couldn't resist reaching for her.

Basically, what I am saying is that it is probably good to have a basic game plan but to be prepared to roll with the punches. It is probably good to know if you want an epidural, but if you don't, also know if there will be a pain point where you will want one. (You won't have a choice if you have to go to a C-Section). Stuff like that. Also, if there is anything you would beat yourself up over if it didn't happen (but be prepared if you don't have a choice due to your health or the health of your baby). I knew I didn't want to "watch" the birth, so I made the doctors get the mirror out of the room! I also wanted both my husband, sister and mom there...which was fine, but my sister stepped out (we had no idea I was so close) to have a cigarette and they wouldn't let her back in because labor had started.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks to those who actually read it!

Ruth- Irregularity really messes up alot! It sucks, but I'm glad you got yourself back on track. And hot chocolate is better than drinking metamucil anyday! I haven't heard of active babies coming early, but if that's true then I'll be delivering any day now! This little lady is killing me. I really don't see how she will be content in there when she's full grown if she is squirming so much now and she only weighs 2.5 lbs.

Spring Chicken- I didn't do a written birthplan with my DS, I just knew what I wanted and let my mom (who was my support person) and doctor know before hand. This time and I will be writing out some guidelines to stick in my chart just because I won't have a support person there to back me up this time and remind me of my goals. I want to do a natural labor, I was induced last time and if need be I would do it again. I am open to having an epidural, but would like to try without it. I had one last time because I felt pressured into it and I want to make the decision myself. Also, the main point of my birth plan will be who is allowed in the room. I had so many people coming in and out while I was in labor and it made me really uncomfortable but I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I also had 3 people in with me when I was delivering and I won't do that again! Since my DH is gone again, I think it's just going to be me,the nurses and doctor when it's time to deliver. Plus, my mother-in-law will be absolutely forbidden from the room until after the baby is born and we are in recovery. I know I will be stepping on some toes, but ultimately this is about me and my little girl. No one else.

Angelsrose- Don't worry about long posts. We all write them!

Ruth: were your random sharp pains/contractions serious? Like, if you had just ignored them, would it have been bad? Because I started getting random sharp pains in my lower abdomen yesterday. I know I have a yeast infection (sorry, tmi?) that I just haven't been able to kick, but I don't *think* I have a UTI. I have a regular prenatal appt next Monday, and I was just going to wait till then to bring it up. Do you think that's a mistake? Should I call her?

Bookworm: thanks for the birth plan explanation/ideas. I honestly can't imagine everyone wanting to be in there with me (in fact, I think even my husband is a little nervous of it, but he knows he doesn't have a choice, and would probably regret it if he missed it), but you never know. It can't hurt to put it all down to avoid confusion and hurt feelings.

Apparently sharp pains/contractions when coupled with some clotting are quite enough to go to the hospital for. I just spent much of the morning there being tested for preterm labour. Monitoring and visual exam showed yes contractions no dilation. They took some swabs and will call once they have the results of those. I thought it was amusing that they mentioned how active this baby is, and how such an active baby could cause pain and contractions -- the thing was, she was hardly moving in comparison to what she usually does.

bookworm1536
01-14-2010, 02:31 PM
Spring Chicken- Sorry you had to go to the hospital, but at least you can have some peace of mind. What kind of clotting did you have? I had the same situation with the fetal monitor. My little one kept kicking it off and moving. They had to come in at least 6 times in the couple of hours I was on it to reposition. It was reassuring though that she was moving so much though since I had just been in a car accident.

I had a sonogram today to check on baby's growth since she has 2VC. Everything looks good and she is growing well. She weighs exactly 3 lbs now which is in the 50th percentile. I'm a bit surprised she's not at the upper end of the group because I am much bigger this time around than I was with my son and he was 8 1/2 lbs. when he was born. I'll go back in 4 weeks for another sonogram. I did get some really cute 3-d pics this time though. In one of them she has a little smirk on her face.

Spring Chicken
01-14-2010, 03:17 PM
Bookworm: the clotting was dark, like old blood, but it didn't really look like blood to me. It was like dark very coarse sand. Smaller than gravel, bigger than sand. There wasn't much. I'm not entirely convinced I'm out of the woods on this. I continue to have contractions, but they don't really hurt. I'm just going to take it easy and play it by ear. They took some sort of swab which came out negative which, I am told, means that my body is not going into labour within the next seven days.

What is 2VC? And how cool that you could see a facial expression! Wow!

bookworm1536
01-15-2010, 10:18 AM
Spring Chicken- Good for you for being cautious. How many weeks are you? I've had some BH contractions, but they just make my stomach get tight and make me short of breath. They seem to come on after I've been on my feet for a while or done anything remotely strenuous. 2VC is a two vessel umbilical cord. The baby only has one artery and one vein instead of two arteries. They just have to check each month to make sure that she's growing ok because sometimes babies with 2VC stop growing or they are underweight when born. The sonogram pictures were cute, but a little creepy too. I think I like the 2-D pictures better!

Anyone thought about pediatricians yet? I am switching my DS to a new pediatrician and so I am trying to find one that will accept newborn patients and transfer patients. I know it's a little bit early to start looking and interviewing, but sometimes it takes a while to find one you really love. And I highly recommend going on a meet-n-greet at the doctor's office and seeing how things are run, meeting some of the staff and doctors. I didn't do that with my DS, I just picked an office that was nearby and had gotten good reviews from parents. Needless to say I'm not too happy with them now.

I'm 29 weeks. Tuesday will be 30. I have an appointment today with the doctor to try and figure out what's going on. Yesterday I definitely had more than the four per hour contractions they told me to watch out for, but they subsided when I lay down (I was walking the dog when the contractions were at their fiercest). However, by about 3:30, I was calling the doctor, as the painless contractions had turned into what felt ominously like labour: low cramps, off and on, which moved in my back after a while, and the only movement I could feel the baby doing was in the lower abdominal region. And strange movements too. I couldn't help but think she was getting into position to enter the world. Anyway, the doctor's office told me to just stay still until tomorrow, but go the hospital if it got worse, which it didn't. It seems OK today, but I'd really like to know what's happening. 29 weeks is just much, much too early for this. And my husband is away on business right now, of course, but I have my mil in town and mother (who is farther away but who could be called upon in an emergency).

Hey ladies. Doctors orders: I am offically out of work until after the baby gets here.:( My hernia has gotten worst and working wasnt making it any better. So I am ban from work or any exercise (darn). I am really upset about not being able to work bc I will now only get 60 percent of my pay with short term disiblity.
I am trying to stay positive and not stress because it is out of my hands.
Jan 27th is my glucose test
feb 3rd is my ultrasound
I go to the surgeon every 4 weeks and my OB every 2 weeks. That is too much to keep up with on here so Ill just give the "good" appointments.

Ok for the fun stuff
My husband and friend are painting the babys room this weekend. The walls are already a tan color so they are just painting one wall chocolate brown for contrast and an accent:) So the main colors are going to be green and brown in there. I have picked out the bedding on Target.com. It is woodland creatures. Bears, owls, squirls, hedgehogs... So cute. you'd just have to see it
I am painting a little shelf for his room that has the same animals that is on the bedding. I am just trying to keep my mind busy bc sitting at home until April is going to become looooooong I am sure.

Ruth: I was wondering about caffeine intake. I forgot to ask that question, but it seemed likely to be inadvisable when having contractions. Glad you brought it up. As for Valentine's, what about a "together" gift? At Christmas, my husband and I agreed not to get each other anything, but instead to buy a camera for the both of us.
Jboz: My doctor also told me, just today, that I can't do anything either. My body apparently thinks that 29 weeks of pregnancy is enough, and have been told I can stand up for 20 minutes to make meals but other than that, I have to be lying down. I have an ultrasound and another appt in a week, and we will reassess the situation.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted!! I have been reading everything though :)

Angelrose - Welcome! I like the name Logan. It's never too late to join!

Latech-Yea, my innie belly button is slowly dissappearing too. Cute pictures!!!

Ruth-I'm having the opposite problem with food... I eat 1/2 my meal and I get tired of eating... I'm not full I just don't want to eat anymore. No rib kicking yet for me, doesn't sound like fun. She's kicked me in the bladder a couple of times though. I can't sympathize with the lack of sleep though, as I'm sleeping fine, although I'm not sure I should be... odd...
Glad your trip to the hospital turned out ok! Scary
What about a romantic present... or a date night where he can pick what restaurant, movie etc he wants to see??

Spring-I agree with you, being pregnant is mostly uncomfortable and painful. I'm happy to be expecting too but it's uncomfortable. WHat does your husband do? Why is he gone so long? From what I've heard BH during this time is normal, your stomach contracts to "practice" I don't think it's supposed to be harmful. I haven't written out a birth plan, is it really important?? I just sorta figured whatever happened happened... If I can do it without pain meds then I will, if not so be it.
I think Spring that if you are concerned about the pains you should call your doctor, I'm glad you went to the hospital. Sounds like you're having lots of BH issues, I hope everything is alright.
Welcome to the non-working club... I haven't adjusted to it yet as yesterday was my last day but I'm sure next week it'll sink in. Sorry to hear you aren't doing well.

Bookworm-How are you doing without your DH? Must be really hard!! 3 lbs :) That's great!! Was the 3D sonogram weird?? I always thought they kinda looked like aliens... i've had the same BH contractions as you, my stomach just gets tight and I have shortness of breath.

Jboz- I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's been ordered not to work... yesterday was my last day. Sorry to hear you're in so much pain, it sucks!! You have a lot of appointments, at least their keeping a close eye on you. Nice nursery colors! I love the animal theme!! Ours is similar but it's the rainforest them so it's really bright. I'm going to start slowly working on the nursery, I can't do much every day or I will be in severe pain by the end of the day. You aren't alone, we have a LOOONG wait ahead of us :(

So as I've been replying to everyone I realized that I forgot to schedule my regular gestational diabetes test... oops :) Guess I'll be doing that tomorrow. As stated above to several people I'm officially done work for 15 months... yikes... it's going to be a LONG wait! Other than the SI joint pain I'm doing alright, nothing too serious. I seem to hate eating, I eat when I have too and usually only finish 1/2 my meal because I get tired of eating... I've tried to keep my portions the same as bfore I was pregnant but now I'm eating 1/2 as much... probably not good...

Sorry for writing a novel!!

Cute pics, Vixen and Jboz! I'm getting tired of people telling me that I just don't look "pregnant enough!" What do they want at 27 weeks??? A gigantic bump?

Vixen- I feel like I'm not eating enough either. I'm stuffed after 5 bites. Doc tells me to eat small meals throughout the day, but i have no time for that. I teach all day and barely have time to eat as it is. We went on our babymoon this weekend - small getway to a B&B. We did a lot of eating at small, yummy restarants but I barely ate. Kind of sucks b/c I do want to eat. I'll talk to my doc more about it if I still havent gained weight. I've only gained about 4 so far.

I've still been having my sharp pains...moved from my back to all over my lower stomach. Going to ask the doc to test me for a UTI and yeast infection next time. I think it may be a uti :(

Happy Sunday everyone! For those of you off tomorrow for MLK day, have a great 3 day weekend!

I had an ultrasound yesterday. It all looks pretty good, although I will have to wait until Friday to hear it from the doctor. I am hoping she gives me the all clear to resume my normal life. This whole sitting/lying on the couch/bed for most of the day is awful. I felt so optimistic yesterday, but today I'm feeling dependent on others, which I suppose I am, but I certainly don't like to feel that way! However, I did wash all the baby stuff yesterday. I figured how strenuous is that? (My mother opined it was too strenuous, what with lifting a laundry basket and all!) So anyway, if she comes early, she has diapers ready to go and clothing and a clean car seat, etc. And if she comes on time, those will come in handy as well :)

Ruth: I'm not *glad* to hear you're having contractions of course, but it is nice to hear someone else's experience with the same thing. It has struck me recently that one thing we're missing in our culture is the knowledge of our mothers and aunts and grandmothers. I mean, yes, I have a mother and aunts and a grandmother, but they didn't each have ten babies and they're all far away and none of them have ever seemed too interested in swapping pregnancy/birthing stories. My grandma, who had four children, told me she couldn't remember any of her births. When she had her children, the standard practice was to knock the mom out with medication (I don't think she was completely out, but very very foggy) and when she woke up and was aware of her surroundings again, she had a baby. So I guess the internet is taking the place of familial knowledge. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but at least there's something!

Vixen: my husband works as a computer consultant. Right now he's finishing up a custom software project and needs to be on site to implement, test, and iron out any kinks. And unfortunately on site is far away.

Ruth: my baby is quite active as well. I'll bring it up tomorrow when I see the doctor as a possible cause. Although I'm in the 3rd trimester and quite large already. I can't imagine my uterus is not yet big enough to rest on the stomach, if that is what it's supposed to do.

I'm curious to know the medical rationale behind the more sex prescription. I would think that would cause the inner workings to "flop around" more, and I also have read that the hormone in the sperm can *cause* contractions. And orgasms do too. I'm sorry, I have no suggestions for less awkward sex though. I think we have tried just about every position, but you know what? Having a basketball-sized belly is awkward from any angle.

I am so looking forward to reclaiming my body and having some energy again. The iron supplements don't seem to matter, I just get more and more anemic. It's exhausting and discouraging (I hate taking pills, but I've been taking these) and I think the only thing for it is to have the baby. All in good time though, of course :)

I love your belly pics! I don't think I've taken a single one so far. I guess I'll have to now to send to my DH. Although I think it freaks him out to see the progression of growth so plainly from week to week.

My little girl is so active! I've been having contractions way more than the 4 per hour. But as long as I get off of my feet and relax for a few minutes, they'll stop. I've also been getting really short of breath. With my DS, I felt like he was right under my lungs but this one is pretty much front and center, but I still feel breathless a lot. It does seem like there is a correlation to the activity level and the contractions.

Ruth-as for less awkward sex, my DH is gone so I don't currently have to worry about it. But before he left the only positions that worked for us were me on top, side by side or from behind. But I'm with Spring Chicken: all of them are awkward and uncomfortable.

Spring Chicken-Sorry you're feeling under the weather. We're in the home stretch; just try to hang on a little longer. I too can't wait to get back in shape. And hopefully even better shape that I was before baby. Are you planning on breastfeeding? I did with my DS and it really helped me take the baby weight off.

I had my glucose test on Monday and should hear back from the doctor sometime next week. I have another dr.'s appointment on the 4th. I just hate having to go every two weeks now.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Bookworm: I am definitely nursing. I'm not so much worried about the weight, although I find it astonishing to gain so much in so little time! And effortlessly, too! Before the pregnancy, I had a long illness, and as a result, lost a lot of weight. When I got better, it was still very difficult for me to keep weight on. So even if I don't get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, that's not bad news. It's the other stuff: getting out of bed, not being able to breathe well, you know...all that stuff that goes along with cramming a baby, a placenta & amniotic fluid inside you in addition to the regular organs that are there all the time! Sorry, I don't mean to sound complainy! Even when I'm feeling icky, I still have a sense of wonder about it all. I know it will all be worth it, and I know it's only temporary.

I think it's interesting that you mention your husband getting freaked out about the week to week changes. Is this your first? I can see mine getting a little strange about it too. We'd like to have a second one, just wondering if it gets easier on everyone the second time around. That way the dynamic shift is less drastic, and you both know pretty much what to expect. When he gets home in a month or so, he's going to have a lot more wife than he had when he left :)

Ruth: That's fascinating! So the baby is OK with a lot of movement as long as he is controlling it, but compensates with lack of movement when he's not the causative factor. Who woulda thunk?

Saw my dr. today. She has OK'd me for some exercise, yay! Not a lot, a bit of walking every day, but that so beats sitting on the couch!

Spring Chicken- this is my second baby. My DS is 3. My DH was deployed when I was pregnant with him as well. He really enjoyed being able to be home while I was pregnant and feeling the baby kick. But he was used to seeing the gradual day to day change, not the weekly pictures where you can really see a big difference. He'll come back for a visit when I'm 36 weeks, so that will definitely be a whole lot a wife! I'll let you know if it's easier the second time around once this one makes her appearance. So far, this pregnancy has been a whole lot harder on me than the first. I'm hoping that the same isn't true once she's born.

Don't feel bad about "complaining". Pregnancy is completely uncomfortable. The flu has been making it's rounds in my family and I am just praying that I don't get it. I can't imagine being sick and feeling the way I feel on a daily basis. My biggest complaint is the back pain. I have started bringing a heating pad with me to work. The fatigue, trouble sleeping, breathing problems and heartburn are tied for second biggest complaints. I know it's not much longer to go, but I'm ready to be finished with this part of the process.

So I am going to be having my baby shower on March 13th. It's cutting it a little close, but that's just about the only weekend that worked for everyone. Now my big dilemma: should I invite my MIL. She is my DH's stepmom and he isn't close with her at all, and she is such a drama queen that I just don't know if I can handle her. Maybe I'll just put someone else in charge of the guest list!

I was on the birthing center website at the hospital that I'll be delivering at and they have such harsh restrictions on visitors because of H1N1. They aren't even going to be reviewing the policy until April, so there isn't much hope of it being repealed before I deliver. As it stands right now, no one under 18 can enter the birthing center, so my DS won't be able to visit at all. That also rules out my sister who's 14. They are only allowing one person to be back with me during labor and delivery (which may be my mom and then I'll have her step out when it's time to push) and then 3 at a time once I'm in recovery. Why do they make things so complicated? I understand being cautious, but excluding my DS from meeting his sister until she comes home? And what if I have a C-section and have to be in the hospital for a week? I've never been away from him for more than two nights before!

Hello ladies.
I am just sitting around trying to keep busy. Not being able to work has been such a bore. But gota do what ya gota do for the baby
My baby shower is Feb 28th so it is right before yals ruth and nikki :) I am excited. THis is my 2nd baby but it is my husbands 1st so mine and his family decided to throw us one. Plus my son is almost 5.
I go for my gluclose test wednesday and I am nervos b/c I cant hardly eat or drink anything with alot of sugar in it with out feeling like I am going to pass out.
So wish me luck.
Spring- I saw where you said you wanted to have 2 and you'd know what to expect the 2nd time around.. this is my second baby and it is totalllllllllllly different. This pregnancy is so much harder and different. I am out of work on mat. leave at 24 weeks and worked the whole time with my 1st. and I wasnt sick with my 1st.. was with this one. It has just been so different it is crazy. If my 1st pregnancy was as hard as this one.. I might just have settled on one kid. haha But when the doctor told me that no pregnancy is alike.. that is so true. My 1st was so easy (besides 2 days of labor and an emergency csection) that I thought I could have 10 kids.
But like Ive said 100 times... It is all totally worth it. I cant wait until my little man is here.

Jboz: Are you also on restricted activity? If so, that must be so hard with an almost five year old! Well, relax as much as you can. Maybe you can find a new hobby for the next few months? Or renew some old ones? I found a pattern for a diaper bag, and am going to pull out my sewing machine for the first time in a few years! And I started knitting a blanket for the baby. I actually started one earlier in the pregnancy, but I had a horrible miscarriage scare at 8 weeks (which although dramatic and unexplained apparently didn't harm the baby one bit), and I just didn't have the heart to go back and finish it. Kind of felt superstitious about it. This one is nicer anyway. It has a tree of life pattern in it & I'm using up some yarn I spun myself about 8 years ago and never used.

It's nice to hear that all the pregnancies are different. It's just hard to emotionally believe sometimes :) If I had to go through just the morning sickness alone while caring for a toddler...I guess you do what you have to do. There was one day though that I spent a few hours looking at adoption options.

Oh yes, and good luck on your glucose test. I had mine a while back and was pleased to note that they've made some definite improvements (I had one a few years back for another issue) in the sugar drink they give you. It was carbonated and really quite like orange pop.

Spring- yes I am out of work and no exercise for me.. The baby gave me a hernia and it hurts! Expecally when I move around alot.. It is right in my belly button and I will have surgery on it after I have the baby
Yes Ive learned how to knit so I have thought about making the baby a blanket :)

Jboz-Great picture! So cute!

Latech-Yea I feel for you... I don't want to eat small meals a million times a day, I find I eat bad stuff if I do that. Where did you go for your babymoon?? Let us know what your doc says about your pains.

Ruth-I hope your contractions stop soon. Nice picture by the way, I saw it on facebook. You're tiny!

Spring Chicken-The hopeless feeling is the worst!! Ugh!! When is your husband back? It must suck being alone! My husband is such a HUGE help right now, I don't know what I'd do without him.

Book-TAKE A BELLy PICTURE!! :) I want to see it!! If people are sick in your family, stay away!! You do NOT want to get sick! Yes, I think you should invite the MIL, I know it'll be hard but there will be enough people there that you won't even have to talk to her much.

Well, I was BEGGED to come back to work part-time because hte new girl didn't work out so I'm working 3 afternoons this week. Today was my first day back and I can definitely see why the doctor told me not to work, OUCH!!
On the plus side, the nursery is ready to be painted!! So I'm hoping to get the paint on the walls this weekend :) YAY, so exciting! I bought fabric to make letters to spell her name today too so I'm getting really excited!! How is everyone else's nursery going??
My baby shower isn't going to be until after she comes. Probably end of April or early May.

Spring-Your blanket sounds nice :) How are you edging it?

Sorry for the multiple posts :)

We went to a bed and breakfast in a historic town, Natchez Mississippi. It overlooked the river; quite beautiful. We pass through the town all the time when we head to south Louisiana, but never stop. It was a cute little town - lots of shops and small, romatic restaraunts. Couldn't afford to do anything big, but I think this was perfect. It was great to get away for the weekend.

Doc prescribed me to a physical therapist for my nerve pain. It has worsened day by day...baby getting bigger = more pressure on the nervers. Oh the pain! It's horrible. I'm hoping this PT will help some.

I did my glucose test last Tues; got a call on Thurs saying the lab messed up my blood work so I had to go back on Friday to redo it! How annoying to waster another hour of my time! At least I got some lesson plans done for my materinity leave. Hopefully will get results soon!

Next doc appt is Feb 2...on my 2 week rotatation now....wow!

Has anyone preregistered at a hospital yet? The staff at my doc's office told me to get this done soon. We have our pick at 2 hospitals here. One hospital is known for the NICU (just in case...) and the other is where my hubby was born and does not have a NICU and has to transfer the baby if need be. I want to go to the one with the NICU of course but my hubby wants to go to other for nostalgia reasons. We are still in battle over this.

I think our litle one is bringing us good luck...Saints are finally going to the Superbowl. My hubby has been a fan for forever, so it's been a long time coming. I swear that game last night could have put me into early labor. I don't even want to know what my blood pressure was! If we win, we always said Colin's middle name will be changed to honor the quaterback...Drew. :)

Hope everyone is doing well!

Jboz- Sorry you're bored! I'm the opposite, I don't have enough hours in the day. I wanted my baby shower to be the last weekend in February but it just didn't work out. Now I'll only have 3 weeks before my due date to get everything washed, returned and set up. Good thing I don't need to much. You and Spring Chicken are so crafty! I wish I could do knit or sew. I can barely sew on a button!

latech- your babymoon sounds just perfect. How frustrating to have to do the glucose test again. It's bad enough having to do it once. I'm rooting for the saints too, but because of Reggie Bush. Love him. But I don't think my daughter would appreciated being named after him! I am registered at the hospital. My OB gave me the form when I was like 8 wks pregnant to send in.I opted for the smaller private hospital over the high tech one, just because I delivered my son there. The other hospital is great, but because of H1N1 they weren't allowing tours and I didn't want deliver there without seeing the birthing center.

vixen- I am going to invite my MIL and instruct my sister to run interference for me. She works every saturday so she may not be able to come anyway, so I might as well play nice. I'll try to post a belly pic soon. I too can't believe there's only 10 weeks left. I haven't started on the nursery at all, but I did get my stroller put together last weekend. It's fabulous! So glad I splurged.

31 weeks today! Now into the single digit week countdown...9 to go! (If she arrives "on time" anyway).
Vixen: For your chart, my next dr's appt is Feb 1st. I think I'm all done with the ultrasounds, and won't be having any more unless there are extraneous circumstances. I did have one on Jan 18 because of all the contractions. They estimated her weight at 3.37 pounds. Not bad, I thought, for a 29 week baby. Considering she's supposed to grown 1/2 pound, on average, every week until she comes out...yikes! She'll be a big kid. And I'm a small woman.

My husband's exact ETA is unknown, but probably mid-February. The good thing about it is that he's driving my station wagon back home for me. We had to leave it in the South (we're in the Pacific NW now) when we moved. I'm driving a pickup truck right now, which is fine I guess, but it's big and difficult for me to park, especially in tight spaces. Not to mention that because it's so high up, it's getting quite difficult to get in and out of with this big belly!

As for my blanket, I think I'm just going to crochet around the edges. I was originally thinking tassels, but reconsidered. Probably not the most baby-safe adornment.

Latech: I've driven through Natchez a couple of times, but never stopped. I've always noted it though, because Tom Waits mentions it in one of his songs :) The Southern US is really so beautiful in places.

Latech- Your baby mood sounds great. You were in my neck of the woods down here in the south :) I am in Alabama
And I feel like all my days are busy with appt. with the surgeon and my OB. every other week.

Book- I agree there isnt enough hours in the day but when I am restricted from alot.. it kinda drags on. I am use to being up and doing stuff.

Ruth- How was your test? I just hope I dont pass out bc of all the sugar and not any protein on an empty stomach. Ugh

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's taken me so long. I've been having computer problems and having a hard time posting reply's. I hope this one works. Anyway!

Everything is going good I'm 28w4d and my next appointment is Feb 10. I had the gloucouse test last week and still waiting for reply. Hopefully it's good cause I don't want to do that 3 hour test. Way to long did it with DS and not fun. I haven't even set up the baby's room yet. We are still trying to find time. Husband is going to school, we are both working on oppostie shifts and taking care of our 4 yr. old. Wow no wonder I'm tired everyday. The baby is deffiently getting bigger cause I'm feeling him move more and he's having fun stretching. Wow what a big difference 2 weeks make. I can't beleive we are almost to the end already. I hope everybody has fun with there baby showers and get everything you need.

I was wondering what kind of bottles everybody is chosing I still have to deceided on them and what kind of stroller? I'm having a hard time chosing the right brand.

Well gotta go. Hopefully I can post something later.

Latech-Natchez sounds great! Wish I could do something like that! I'm sorry your nerve pain is getting worse!! How aggrivating that the lab screwed up!! I HATE giving blood, not my thing at all so I'd be pretty upset.

Book-Good call on the MIL, then at least you get the bonus points for inviting her. Which stroller did you get again? I know as soon as you say it I'll remember but I'm pregtarted today...

Ruth-HOpe your test went well! Don't be upset that you're small, I'm really short (5'1) so there is no where other than out for her to sit. You're quite a bit taller (based on the pictures I've seen) so there's more room for her to stay nice and tucked in. The muscles could play a large part too. I was relatively small and then all of a sudden I popped out so maybe the same thing will happen to you.

Spring - YAY, 31 weeks is exciting!! lol, good point, tassels are probably not the best idea. I have an ultrasound at about 36 weeks or so the doctor said... not sure what its for.

Megan-Nice to see you again. I have NO idea what kind of bottles to get, I was going to ask everyone's opinion on that too.
