Ok, so there were things we weren't supposed to eat while pregnant. The one thing I really cut out of my diet while pregnant was excessive tuna intake, sushi, and diet sodas.

Diet sodas have an ingredient called phenyla... something. And it hinders brain development of the fetus. So I was wondering if it was safe for me to drink diet soda now that I'm breastfeeding? Or do you think it might still hinder her development? I mean, last I saw my pedi on her two week well baby check up, he said there wasn't anything I couldn't eat. But I was wondering what you guys thought.

AND ALSO. Since I'm breastfeeding. I was wanting to know what would happen if I were to catch something like salmonella. Or something that just makes you really sick. Would the baby be able to "catch it" from my breastmilk? Prolly not. I'm just curious... I'm not worried it'll happen though. :P Just extremely curious... And I prolly sound stupid. ^-^

ok first with horomones and mommy brain, there are no stupid. We are just lucky to have a place to put our thoughts so we dont think we are the only ones or are crazy!

Now I thought I remembered reading that pregnancy no-no's are the same during breastfeeding, since its like you are still pregnant by providing all nutrients to your growing baby. I would also think that is the safe thing to do. Also noting if baby has any reactions to something you ate like spicy or nuts.
Now in diet drink the other name is ASPARTAME. Ive heard in several places it eats your brain, adults too. But if you read alot of labels not all diet drinks have it. Right now I am living on propel powedered packets added to water. Sucralose is a much safer artifical sweetner. Also be sure to get several servings of Omega 3 a week like from fish. Salmon is my favorite less fishy, especially in salmon cakes mmmm. Of course no alcohol. And I am all for sushi-just not the raw kind.

For being sick, our ped explained to me that the baby always gets all the good things from our bodies including anti-bodies fighting illness. When my dd was 3 weeks old I got a bad case of strep. He said dont worry she is getting everything to fight it, actually causing me to suffer longer-but she was healthy! Always ask the ped, and get a 2nd opinion. However we both got pink eye when she was 4 months old, so some things are not prevtable.

So to sum it up, eat like you are pregnant. LOTS of water and viatims as always. Your are still literally having the life/nutrients sucked out of you!

Basically, you can eat/drink anything you want. I do not believe that food-born illnesses are spread through breastmilk.
