My over 4 year old son absolutely refuses to potty train. Without going into tremendous detail there is clear indication that he knows when he needs to go, can control when and where he goes, and understands what is needed. After initially trying underwear for a couple of weeks at a stretch we tried for months between underwear and pull ups. He has been in underwear for a month now.

He will sit on potty when given no choice, will occasionally pee (usually pees on potty a couple of times a day) almost never poops on potty. He'll go on the floor 5 minutes after getting up from potty, say he doesn't need to go and then go in his underwear 2 minutes later. He will refuse to go on potty and then go in his underwear while running away from potty.

We have offered every imaginable reward, done charts, offered small treats and promises of big rewards, discussed it and discussed. Most of his friends are potty trained and everyone in his class, so peer pressure is not working either.

He needs to be trained for school in September.

HELP!

Any ideas?????

I would love to hear anyone's suggestions on this because we are facing the same problem. Only school has already started and we are facing some very embarassing and frustrating days.

If you didn't already do it, check out the potty training forum, it's in the toddler section. Thread about going straight to underwear. I told what I did there and don't feel like retyping it - I've typed too much in the last 2 days.
