A warning for all you other toddler parents . . .
So I was loading the dishwasher last night and my 19 month old son was hanging around, as he always does when the dishwasher is open. Knowing about his inclination for grabbing flatware out of the basket; I saved the flatware for last and took the basket out of the dishwasher. After loading them into the basket in the sink, my plan was to put the basket in its place and close the door as quickly as possible. He was, at this time, on the other side of the kitchen. Well, as I put the basket in, it got caught on a dish, slowing me down. Before I knew it he was there and had grabbed a STEAK KNIFE. I calmly said no and reached for it, but he giggled and ran away with it. OMG - I have never been more terrified. I followed him but tried not to chase him so he wouldn't run faster and trip and fall on it. He made it all the way across the living room and then threw the knife down. I thought I would have a heart attack. So please learn from my mistake and save the flatwear loading until the kids are asleep.
