I have never had razor burn before, but for the last 4 months I have gotten it soooo bad on my legs. It itches soo bad. I switch out razors constantly. Exfoliate before I shave. Moisturize like crazy but nothing seems to be helping. I use shaving gel too. Anyone got any ideas?

ouch!! been there.. the only thing that worked for me was the aloe vera gel, other creams and moisturizers make it worse, actually, maybe because of the fragrances and perfumes they use. If you're lucky to have the actual plant, use it! cut a slice and rub the inner juicy part on your skin, it does wonders.

Try a moisturizing conditioner for your hair, and when you use lotion afterwards make 100% sure that it is alcohol and fragrance free.

I have recently suffered from this too but only from the top of my knees and up. I stopped shaving that part of my legs and just put nair on it instead. It isn't as smooth as shaving but it got rid of the hair and my razor burn is going away. Now I shave up to my knees and then us nair for the rest.

Yeah mine is from the knee up too! I just moved to a drier climate so I think that is what happened. It HURTS! But I put some essential oils on it and it's gone away except for on my knees. It looks terrible too! As if trying to get rid of baby belly wasn't enough. Ugh!!

When you say that you exfoliate before you shave, do you mean the day before, or like -right- before you shave? Exfoliation can leave your skin really sensitive - so running a razor immediately after might be aggravating it more. If you're doing both the same day, try moving the exfoliation to a day or two before you intend to shave. Even if it doesn't stop the bumps, it might help them a bit.
FWIW, Sally's Beauty Supply used to sell a liquid called "No Bumps" right around the waxing stuff that seemed to work pretty well for me. I don't get bumps on my legs per se, but that stuff did seem to help the bikini line and underarm bumps. Don't know if they still sell it or not.

My skin gets irritated from shaving creme. men and women's brand. So, now I use Olay Ultra Moisturizing Body Wash Shea Butter. It's the only thing I can use when I shave.
What else can you use "the juicy part of the plant" for?
My mom would always cut off a peice, open it and lather her face with it. LOL!

Applying baby powder after I shave also really helps. Aloe is a good one too. For me, waxing is much easier on the skin than shaving but expensive and not always practical.

I love all the advice! I am getting razor burn around my bikini zone and it is so unsightly...especially now that it is summer time. I will try many of the suggestions and keep you posted on what works for me too. Thanks!!!!!!

They have stuff at Wal-Mart(& probably any drug store) I used to use called Bikini-Zone..it helped me ALOT!It is right around the shaving cream/razor area. It is a little tube that looks like neosporin(sp?)! Also you might want to try swapping razors! I have noticed certains razors give me worse razor burn than others.
Oh & I also read in Cosmo the other day that putting neosporin(sp?) works really well too! I haven't tried it yet, but I thought it would be worth a try!

And one other thing I forgot before... a little cortizone cream can also go a long way, especially if you kind of mix it into your lotion.

if shaving and the razor burn becomes too much of an issue for you, you might want to consider laser hair removal. In just a few sessions you can be free of hair forever...no hair...no need to shave...no burn! It's something to consider if nothing else seems to help. Many physicians and medspas offer it- your OB may even have a hair removal system. It's fast, easy, and would certainly take care of the problem. I've had it done (legs, underarms, arms) and love the results! Hope this helps.

I have started to take a bath in baking soda several nights a week (of course, I still have time b/c my baby is not here yet and she is my first!) My doctor has suggested it for itchy skin in my vaginal area, but I also read somewhere that you can use it to for at home pedicures to help smooth your legs.. I usually use about a cup or so in about a foot of tub water, but just whatever works for you.. It helps smooth my legs and baking soda is fairly cheap. :) Keeping my legs from drying out by using it keeps me from getting razor burn quite as bad.
And as has already been suggested, I use conditioner, plus shaving gel. I always wash my legs first w/ a moisturizing soap... then I use suave conditioner with skintimate shave gel for dry skin (pink bottle) on top to shave. Might be a little much, but I used to get razor burn EVERY time I shaved and my legs would hurt and itch for so long afterwards I'd have to go days before shaving again... this works for me. :)

try some ice on it.
whenever i get any such marks i rub ice on it.
and you can also use some after shave lotion.
