Hi to all dads,

My son loves that we read to him. He especially loves a book called "I love my mother because..." The thing is that sometimes I catch my husband replacing mother for father and b/c of this I decided to set out on a quest to find a book dedicated to Dads. I'll love to give it to him as a gift from my son for father's day with a note saying "Even thou it is not something for you, I think you will enjoy reading this to me" or something like that.

Any book suggestions?

Thanks,
Lisa

I don't have any help for you, I'm afraid, I just want wanted to tell you that idea is brilliant! I have been wracking my brain trying to think of something cute to get my husband from our son for father's day, and something like that is perfect.
I hope you don't mind if I steal your idea. :)
If I run across anything good in my search, I'll be sure to let you know! :)

I found the same book in amazon " I love daddy because..." here is the link. It has great reviews. It's a bilingual book, another thing that I love about this book.

How old is your son? Two books I liked were "Guess How Much I Love You" for a younger kid and "Danny the Champion of the World." I read "Guess How Much" to my oldest from the time he was a baby, and would get teary at the end (it's just a simple book about a father and son rabbit, showing who loves who more). The other is a Raoul Dahl book. It's weird, but all about a father and son's relationship and how they keep learning about each other (while poaching quails!).

Daddy_Gator, thank you for your reply. My baby is 10 mo old but we have been reading to him since he was born. He loves it, especially the ones with bright colors and lots of images. It's so cute, I used to point to the pictures and name them or describe the situation. Now he opens the book, turns the pages by himself, start babbling, and grabs my finger and points at a picture so that I can tell him what it is. I'll definitely check your suggestions.

Thank u again,
Lisa

Just wanted to say thanks for the great Fathers day gift idea!
Books are always a great gift for my dd, but I know both she and her Daddy will love to read "I love my daddy because..." book together!

Here is something I really can recommend, and it is so fun too
-
I did all my "reading" a totally different way. Idea absolutely loves books but I never read from them, didn't read from them anyway, I have started a little bit now when she is 4.5 but before that, I only used the pictures and just told her the story, involving her all the time.
-
We explored the books, burnt ourselves on the Christmas lamps, ate cookies, with and without asking first to teach her that, hurt ourselves trying to catch the hedgehog, killed the snake and lighted a fire, fried it and ate it. Idea got sooo angry when I poured water on the fire and couldn't light it again because the wood was wet. I had to apologise and promise to ask first before ever doing that again... Idea came up with the brilliant idea that the whole book caught fire because I flipped page and continued without putting out the fire first... The troll in Elsa Beskow's Tomtobobarnen smelled so badly from his mouth because he never brushed his teeth and it was much easier to get Idea to brush her teeth after we had taugh him to do that... All the craziest things you can ever think of, we did it in our imagination.
I used Swedish, English, and Thai children's books. I even used a Japanese one, doesn't matter.

I am glad that I read "Imagination is more important than knowledge...", part of a quote by Albert Einstein. It is very true. I started to work with getting Idea to do parts of the story telling when she was 4, she liked it so much that she really wanted to join in, a little bit at first, then a bit more. She still expects me to take the leading role but she really participates. It's a good technique to teach problem-solving too. We need to cut the wood, what shall we do? Let's go to the farmer and borrow an axe, flip back 3 pages to where the farmer was. We are only allowed to borrow the axe if we ask politely.

Story telling is not always fun - for the parent - this way, it's fun for Daddy too :)

Charlie loves for me to read 'I Love You Stinky Face'. I could tell that my husband kinda wished he had a book to read to him about Charlie and Daddy. So I got him 'Daddy Kisses' http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=daddy+kisses and 'Daddy and Me' http://www.amazon.com/Daddy-Me-Karen-Katz/dp/0689849060/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242411869&sr=1-1. They both love both books. 'Daddy and Me' is really cute and is a lift the flap book. 'Daddy Kisses' is just so sweet and Charlie gives him lots of kisses when they read it.

Loved the idea, sounds like so much fun. I'll definitely give it a try... ;)

I totally agree with this...The best part of children, besides their innocence, is their imagination. I think every parent should encourage that. Even a box of pamper could be an exciting adventure. =)

charliesmommy: Thanks for the book suggestions... ;)

Just an idea.....I think you can order personal books and submit your husbands and childs name in the book. I remember having some books like that when I was little....MAN! I wish I knew where they were. Here is a start:
