View Full Version : Playing with my baby

My son will be turning 3 months old in a few days and I am just wondering how do other moms play with their baby at this age? I feel like I bore him all day long because I dont really play too much with him. I talk and sing to him and act silly with him but thats really as far as it goes. He cant sit up and he doesnt have interest in toys. I try all the time to play with him with rattles or other toys like that but he just doesnt seem interested. I am just wondering if all moms of babies this young go through the same thing or is there something I should be doing?

Don't worry! Your doing it right! At that age they aren't into toys and rattles yet. I would always do like you've been doing. Just talking to him, singing songs, kissing his tiny feet and just holding and cuddling him. It's also good for them to have tummy time, you could let him see himself in one of those baby mirrors. You can always turn on some quiet music and dance with him. But otherwise I think he will start to show you when he's ready. He'll probably start focusing on things more or even reaching for things. Instead of being bored he's probably just happy and content.

Oh man, I remember those days well. :) It sounds awful but they really are just little blobs with eyes. No real interaction is possible, they can barely see really, and haven't developed enough to provide any feedback other than hunger. It gets much better, and soon. I remember how golden it became at 4 mos when she really started to come to life, and by 6 mo she had such a personality I was able to deal with the teething because she had totally taken over my heart.
You're doing just fine by just trying to engage her and making yourself heard often to her. Singing and talking and dancing and all that good stuff is developing her in ways you can't even imagine. She will start really understanding you long before she can talk to you, it is amazing.
I am a huge fan of sign language. We started around 6 mo and it took about 4 months before we got payoff, but it is a huge payoff. She jabbers with the best of them, but also relies on sign language to communicate her wants/needs/problems which helps a lot.
You're doing great!!
