Charlie has been waking up with a dry diaper 2 out of 3nights the past couple of weeks. I asked my sitter if this means it's time and she urged me to put him on the potty in the morning. So I did this morning and he pee peed!!!!!
Please post any and all potty training techniques, suggestions, stories or anything else you can think of. I'm feeling less than confident about potty training. I don't want to push him too hard or too little.
Thanks Ladies!!!

well my oldest who is 8 now and my second oldest who is 5 both had trouble with potty training first story was my first child James who is now 8 i thought that i could get him trained by the time he started pre-school boy i was wrong i wanted him to be trained at age 2 and i know that every child is different and boys take longer to train as well but we made sure when i was pregnant with him that no one bought me a potty for him cause i knew i was going to make him choose out his own potty to make him happy about training him. Well when he turned one i was so happy i'm like one more year of changing dirty diapers but when he turned 2 i was so happy we went out cause he was my first child and all and i wasn't thinking about having another one at that time and he choose out his own potty and his only the first morning i remember that morning like no other i took off his diaper and sat him on the potty i thought he was happy about training i was wrong he cried and when he did get up he peed i'm thinking to my self "and he was standing right next to the potty as well" and then my hubby took him like 3 days later and i'm putting lunch togerher and i was busy getting my son's lunch done and also in time of his nap time next thing i hear from the bathroom "no son not on the floor" and then he came out from the bathroom and my son comes running for me and my hubby not so happy about what happen we then after he was put down in his crib for nap and then we talked about it and i said "tough time" he said "yep, i thought i could get him to sit on the potty and go" i said "i had the same problem as well" he said "he stood up and just peed on the floor" i said "well the same thing happen with me" i said "and he was standing right next to the potty" and my hubby said the same thing i did. no luck at 2 and then threw fits not even to be sat on the potty so we put it away until 3 and by 3 he was showing that he wanted to go pee and poop in the potty and then the training really began in the begining there were alot of wet and dirty pants but he was fully trained at 3 1/2 years old but we did a star chart and when he was fully trained we bought him what ever he wanted and he got a bunch of new toy cars and under wear as well and he stayed fully trained as well...
but my 5 year old i wanted her trained by 1 1/2 that didn't happen she did the same thing but thank you that my 4 year old was offering that he helped her train as well. But she hit him every time James even came near her so we said "sorry about that buddy maybe better luck next time". But he was alittle up-set that he couldn't help her learn faster. but she didn't like that cold felling of her butt touching the potty chair so she said no way to that one and didn't want to train until 2 so we but it away at 1 and by 1 1/2 we thought she was wanting to train but we put her on it and she went pee and she wasn't happy at all after that but we stilled prised her for trying but i think she didn't like hearing her pee go into her potty chair and scared her so we put it away until came along and by 3 weeks after she turned 2 she came to us {me and my hubby} sitting at the dinner table talking about school and what pre-school we were going to send her to she came out and said "mommy daddy" we look at her she didn't seem happy and her night gown seemed wet and we said "yes honey" and she said "i want to be potty trained" and we said are you sure" she said "yes cause i don't like wet bed sheets" and then we took out the potty and she peed the first thing after she came to us and we both watched her and she was like "yay i did it" and she liked watching TV to pee or poop which ever one she had to do so we put down a towel and put the potty chair on it and she watched her fave show and did want potty either way we just pulled down her pants and and she said down on her little potty and went while we just sat on the couch and watched her and then we ger her little bit of toilet paper and she wiped her self and instead of leaving to wash her hands we didn't force her to do anything she didn't want to do we just put hand saitiser on her hands and when she was fully trained by 3 she was fully trained we did the same thing start chart and when she was fully trained we took her out to the store and of course we let our 4 year old cause he need to get some thing for helping out a little bit so he got a DVD of his fave TV so we let him choose out 2 things and let out little girl choose out alot of baby doll clothes and one baby doll that looks real size and wets and poops of course she had to course out baby born and she dressed her and took care of her it even had to sleep in it's own crib and sit at the table with us and had to have it's own infant car seat as well but we couldn't find one and she got so upset that we could not find her one i said "when we get home i'll get you a car seat of course it had to sit right next to her car seat as well it was her own infant car seat that when she was a baby and one thing was it fit in her car seat it had to go every where with us if we went out to the store to buy food it had to come and it was a 2 seated cart so we put her in it and put her infant car seat in the cart as well she even had a birth catifacition done for it as well it had to weight 5 pounds 5 oz's even the doctor office it had to come and of course she said "my baby needs a check-up" and did ever thing to the doll what the doctor did to her if she went for a booster shot the doctor had to give it one as well of course it was filled with air. The doctor even put a band aid on it as well.
hope you liked my stories have plany more where that come from. good luck to you and your son on this potty training just when he's fully trained buy him what ever he wantes with a price limit like no more over 50 bucks even if it's 51 bucks it doesn't matter just buy him. What i did with my kids if they have many stars on their star chart that was how many toys they are allowed to buy it worked out great for me maybe it will work out for you

1. Reward your child for even sitting on the potty, then start making the rewards requirements higher (from just sitting to peeing, from peeing once to peeing 5 times, from 5 times to a day, etc.)
2. Have a box full of books and toys that they can only play with while sitting on the potty
3. If they have a favorite cartoon character chances are there is a potty book or movie starring that character. (Our kids get really excited for a few times after watching Elmo's Potty Time.)
4. Let him go to the store and pick out his own big boy underwear
5. Avoid diapers and pull-ups at all costs. (Our oldest does just fine using the potty when she is bare bummed or in panties, but she will NEVER use the potty if she has on a pull-up or diaper. From our experience pull-ups are a real waste of money.)
6. Let them come in the bathroom when you go or if they have a friend that is potty training who doesn't mind being watched. For some reason peer pressure works at least for a little while. And talk to them about what is happening

My son is 2 1/2 n we statrted yesterday. It went everwhere but the potty:)Today i made him sit on potty in front of tv for 5 minutes every hour, he finally peed n i gave him 7 m&Ms..Boy he is food motivated because the second time i put him on he was already demanding the m&ms n peed right away...I think i will give him hershey kisses for # 2. Gerber makes training underware that is really thick, you might want to try them because i refuse to buy pull ups

I just started training my second (a boy) and found these suggestions helpful
1. Don't start out with a little potty, just buy a potty seat that sits on the big toilet. So far we have seen that it is easier to not have to make the transition from one to the other.
2. Put little boys on the seat backwards. This way they can see themselves pee and it isn't as scary. I was also told that this makes the transition from sitting to pee to peeing standing up much easier. (Our son would tell us he had to go, throw a fit when we set him on the potty and then get off and pee or poop. But since we started putting him on backwards he pees like a little champ and cheers when he sees it streaming.)
