Hey ladies

I delivered my DD 2 months ago and had a disturbing health experience that I wanted to share. It was a normal day, my girls, my husband and I all home for the day. I was playing with my 4 year old and just completely lost consciousness. I laid on the floor for what my husband says couldnt have been more than 20-30 minutes passed out. My DD says she tried to wake me up but I must have been too tired, cause I didnt hear her playing her piano really loud to wake me up. On my way to the floor, I must have hit the bathroom sink and I suffered a concusion so bad that I was hospitilized in the Neurological ICU for 3 days. The doctors say that sometimes postpartum, the pituitary gland in a womens head can become enlarged and cause you to pass out. I did present with symptoms before this all happened. It started with headaches everyday, then I got night sweats and would wake up soaking wet, finally I havent had a period and my DD is now 2 1/2 months old. I did bring these symptoms to the attention of both my OB and my general practioner before it got severe and was told by both "Dont worry, its just your hormones adjusting" and to take the birth control pill to help the night sweats and headaches. They said my estrogen levels must be low. I never got to take the birth control pills because I havent yet started my period and was told by my neurosurgeon that had I started taking the pill as suggested, I would have also had a stroke. I couldnt believe it. I am so glad I didnt start my period.

I now have a ticking time bomb in my head and am under a doctors care. The point of this thread is to make all the mothers who will and recently delivered to watch for the above symptoms. My doctor said my situtaion is rare, but the more research I do on the subject, the more I find that this can affect as many as 1 in 4 woman. That doesnt sound rare to me........
