We didn't get a play mat for Calandra at my shower, and we haven't bought one yet since I haven't been working (go back tomorrow night yay) but I was wondering when we should be getting one? I know she needs one to help build her little arm/leg muscles and whatnot...

I got one for my daughter when she was about a month old, and used it for tummy time until recently she's been batting at the toys and staring in the mirror and "playing" as much as an 8 week old can.

Get one asap. They were so great- entertained the girls for hours. I got one at a second hand store- it was one of the pricier ones and I threw it all in the wash- it came out great.

We got ours at about 8 weeks and I wish I had gotten it sooner. At about 6 weeks my son was getting bored with the old standbys (the swing and bouncy seat) but had no interest in any of the toys we had.... the rattles ect.
It is the best and worst thing we got him. He loves it so much he'll play with it for hours, which is great (I have to stop him from playing to feed him, he won't even realize he's hungry sometimes... and I end up changing him while he's in mid play :p ) but the one we got.... well his favorite part is a battery operated star (please PLEASE no more battery operated things! I can't keep the rechargables recharged and the regular ones I'm buying all the time!) that plays music with lights flashing in time with it. It's a Baby Einstein one... the stupid star has an issue where every couple of weeks (or days with our first one) the music stops playing :(
If it weren't for the fact he loves it so much... I'd get a different one.
