My daughter will not burp after she eats! I tried, Nate tries, our mom's and grandma's have all tried... we all do different positions, different levels of how hard we tap her back... I don't know what to do, and I feel really bad because I'll sit there burping her for a 1/2 hour and she won't burp, so I'll start to cuddle her and she'll spit everything back up- then she's just confused, hungry, and covered in spit up...

My son is like that. What I find works best is to rub his tummy in a clockwise motion for a minute or so with just a little gentle pressure (keeping him at an upwards angle). That encourages the stomach and intestines to move around the air... the air in the stomach to move to the top for easy release (he's like a pressure valve! :) ) then put him over my shoulder and pat his back.
If that doesn't work because he will not burp if he's asleep, I wake him up a bit and walk in sort of a swingy, bouncy motion while patting his back. That also encourages the gas bubbles to come to the top of the stomach. Sometimes it takes a lot of walking.
When worse comes to worse, I lay him down for a few minutes then pick him and walk and pat. I also have his crib mattress inclined a bit at the head of the crib so it usually does the trick to put him in that position for a bit.
However, the rubbing of the tummy can also cause poo to happen :p Not so much now that he's 2 1/2 months, but when he was under a month... ooo that got the diaper dirty every time!

My daughter also has a hard time burping now that she's on soy based formula. I also rub her tummy and pat her back, most of the time if I keep moving her from a cradle in my arms position to a sitting position and go back and forth she'll get the burps out.
Bec caV, I wish someone had told me about rubbing the tummy a few weeks ago because the first time I did it, she vomited all over herself! I can't remember if she was still on the milk based though, so it may/ may not have had something to do with that.

Oh the vomit had to be fun! :p
If I recall correctly, the first few times I did it I got some spit up surprises, he spits up more when he has a little too much (he's a suck for comfort kid, and since I breastfeed, sometimes I let him go even though he's doing the sleepy sucking just because I can't tell how much he's had... especially at night when my supply is lower) but until I got the correct tummy rub technique down, I got some surprises :p

Yeah, I was shocked to say the least. Then I was like, "well there goes that outfit- it's in her ear?! how'd it get down her shirt?!" Babies are very talented when it comes to getting their spit up in strange places.
I don't make the mistake of wearing a tank top when i'm feeding her anymore...actually got about an ounce down the top the other day...that was fun and boy i sure smelled good! lol.

Oh yeah I bet! That's a "Honey, what's that smell?" moment. :p I get that from my husband a lot... I just answer with "we have a baby..."
He doesn't spit up much, but those times he does I'm never prepared... no receiving blanket over my shoulder... then spit up on my shoulder, chest, all over him, in my hair....

LOL! Yeah I've only gotten it in my hair once *knock on wood*. Today was fun though...I got peed on! Went to change her diaper, and she peed before I got the other one under her butt. I got her all washed up, clean clothes on, and then she just smiled at me like "Ha ha. Thanks mom"
All I could do was laugh.

Oh now that one is a joy! Be glad you don't have a boy because it's pretty regular with boys :p
The very first time my son hosed me down he was only a few days old. I have the monitor on the changing table, I was holding the clean diaper about to put it on, and there came a stream aimed right at me... all of me, the clean diaper, the monitor, the changing table, the floor... I started laughing as hard as could be. I had the monitor on and my husband heard me laughing and yelled from the livingroom "What's going on?" but I couldn't stop laughing as I threw the clean diaper over him.
I went through a million baby wipes cleaning it all up, had to get out a new outfit for him, a new diaper, then clean myself up. Thankfully, he missed most of himself and only really got his clothes wet that were right underneath his little butt as I stopped the stream from hitting me, but it all didn't absorb into the diaper at first.

My lil' one does the same...What helps her is not patting the back, but rubbing it in a circular motion. Also, if your baby can bear weight on her legs, (stand with assistance), I noticed it helps more if she is standing. Good luck!

Funny burp today...I have to rub her back, pat it, and rub her belly..meanwhile, she looks at me, and through the side of her mouth-just like her daddy, lets out a huge burp! I swear I need to video her and send it to AFV lol
