My almost 8 month infant, is always constipated. She will not take juice, or water. The doctor says to give her juice, but she will not take it, even diluted.

Anyone have any suggestions that could help my daughter.

When she trys to poop, she strains, screams, and still nothing comes out. I feel so bad for her.

OK u need drastic measures. My sister sat with my daughter yesterday while i took my son to speech therapy. She is 7 mnths ( my sister has no children) We had cold applesause in the fridge just the regular sweet kind that u would eat with dinner. I walked into the kitchen n my sister said WoW she really loved this applesause!!!I cringed and my daughter had three bowl movements that day!!!! I can't belive your ped didn't tell you to give her prunes gerber makes them in stage 1...They work..try giving her prune juice through a medicine dropper. My ped gave me that advice. She told me Mommy's get the job Done:)

Well, her ped did tell me that. I tried them, she ate them but she still had trouble going. I tried suppositories, They work well but I don't want her to depend on them. I've tried applesauce, she really doesn't like fruit, so I'm all out of options.

Give her some Caro Syrup in her bottle, if not the suppositories will have to work for now, at least she is going with them. My neice had this same problem and after she turned a year old and really started eating baby food, she didn't need the suppositories anymore.

My DD had the same problem until she was almost 4 years old. We tried everything, warm baths, juices, suppositories, Kero Syrup, etc. My new pediatrician ended up putting her on Miralax 1x per day for 3 months. Boy, did she clear out! After the last suggestion, we rarely have problems with her going. Im not sure if she just grew out of it, or if the Miralax was the cure. I definately wouldnt suggest Miralax at such a young age, but maybe you can talk to your pediatrician about different Fiber options that you can use. I wouldnt introduce anything new without the doctors recommendation.

PS. If your baby will eat cold stuff, I would try making Pear and Apple Juice popsicles from the baby juice. It may change her mind. Just use an Ice Tray, covered in plastic wrap and toothpicks. Works Great!

My daughter had a terrible digestive system! She would do the same thing - cry, face completely red, just straining to go. We found that the following helped - when we swithed from breastmilk to formula, we put her on Enfamil Gentlease (purple container). It's formula that's already broken down - helped quite a bit. We also (when she was ready for baby food) gave her prunes every single morning! It helped get food through her system and she would have bowel movements on a regular basis. We also limited how much banana baby food she received as it seemed to slow things down. I know you said that your daughter won't drink juice - keep trying as she may come around. When we gave our daughter juice, she didn't like it as well. I went and bought some different types of sippy cups. She finally found one that she liked and continues to use it to this day. I've also heard some people say that they put their kids in a warm bath - the warm water actually helps relax the muscles. Unfortunately, you may have a mess to clean but sometimes a little mess is worth it!
