My almost 9 month old did not like the 1st foods at all. he would gag and throw-up everytime I tried. He also liked mashed potatoes. After about three weeks of being frustrated trying new foods and wasting the rest of the jar, I just started him on 2nd foods. They are thicker and are more like real food, there is also "meals". Damien really likes those. The meals aren't super chunky like 3rd foods and can probably be eaten without teeth, Damien had 4 when he started eating. If he could eat mashed potatoes, then he could probably eat 2nd foods. I would ask your pediatrician just to be sure.

There is no good reason for your daughter to be taking solids right now. The AAP recommends starting them at 4-6 months. A five month old gets all neccessary nutrition from breastmilk or formula. Try backing off for now and trying again in a few weeks. She may not be ready yet. (Try to ignore your intrusive relatives when they tell you baby is starving and NEEDS some cereal)

If she doesn't want it then she really doesn't want it. As long as she is on formula or breastmilk, she will most definately not be malnourished. Try something new every few days or weeks or so. 6 months is the ideal age to start solids. She should be started off on infant cereal, I don't know what kind of food's you are offering, but start of with that.
