My baby is 11.5 months old and still has not said a single word. She babbles and was saying mamamamamamamamamam and dadadadadadadadadad but she has not said them in a while now.
Is this something I should be concerned with? Everything I read tells me my daughter should have 2-5 words by 12 months which i just do see happening.
Thanks.

I wouldn't get too worried just yet. Keep talking and reading to her a lot and see how the next month goes. These things seem to happen very quickly once they begin.

I have been reading to her since she was 3 months old. everyday too! She goes over to her stack of books gets one for me to read and will even turn the pages. She can't clap her hands either. She can clap two toys together and wave by bye.
So hard not to worry about every little thing!

What's even worse is if you're around other babies, and as bad as you don't want to do it, you compare. You want your baby to be ahead of the others, secretly. When I had my first son, I worked at daycare, and I tried to tell myself, it doesn't matter, he'll do it when he's ready, but it is hard not to worry. My dad was very concerned about my second son's talking. My older boy spoke very early and very clear. But my younger son was more like your daughter. I just looked up his first word in his baby book to see, and at 1 year old, his word was "bom" for bottle. That was it. The rest was babbling. By 18 months he was doing animals and foods. He is now 28 months old and just here in the last month has really taken off with sentences. But hardly anyone except my husband and I or my parents understand a lot of it, and even I don't get all of it. But it will come.

If you are really worried talk to your pediatrician. The other thing is is that if she isnt falling back on anything else I would say its not that big of a worry. And I hear ya on the whole its hard not to worry about every little thing, I cant help but sit up in the middle of the night by every sound my baby makes, or doesnt make lol.

I have her 12 month check up in 3 weeks so i will wait to talk to the pedi then.
She lifts her arms when she wants to be picked up, pets my dogs, understands "No" gives me items that I ask for and has recently started pointing mostly to my nose, mouth, etc...
She stands using anything she can and will walk with a walker.
Its seems like its really the clapping (which i am sure is my fault as I don't clap that much during any given day) and the talking...
Thanks so much for your comments.
I say "MAMA" and "DADA" all the time but she doesn't seem to be catching on....

My son did the same thing! He is now 3 and I can't get him to stop talking! I wouldn't worry to much right now!

Thank you all for your replies. This helps! My husband says she says mama when I am not here... so that is kinda funny and she was saying dada for a while but I haven't heard it in about a month now. She does understand a lot of what I am saying she stops what she is doing if I say "No" but often if she doesn't get what she wants she starts a crying fit rather than trying to communicate.
