I am 15 1/2 weeks pregnant. I am concerned about my weight. I weighed about 165 before I got pregnant, and I was trying to lose some weight, (so that I wouldn't be packing even more extra pounds when I got pregnant). Then when I hit 153 pounds I found out that I was pregnant. I have not had a single moment of morning sickness yet, thank god. Although I have had food that upsets my stomach after I eat them. My ob says that weight loss is normal, my PCP says I should be gaining weight by now. I'm so confused I don't know who to believe. I think I should be gaining weight considering I'm not hugging a toilet all day like some people, (sorry for those or you who have.) Does anyone have any pointers for gaining weight with out eating a bunch a junk food?

Gain it with healthy foods! I didn't gain weight for a while, it is different for everyone. Some women eat like crazy because they think that because they are pregnant, they can. So, eat sensibley, don't starve yourself, and you and your baby will be great! PS-the less weight you gain now, the less you will have to worry about after pregnancy!

If your Ob isn't worried about the baby & s/he is growing normal then I wouldn't worry about it!! If you are overweight you aren't supposed to gain as much as normal people anyway!! If you don't start gaining by week 20 or so then you might make another call to the OB!! Also just because you aren't hugging the toilet( I hope I am so lucky):) doesn't mean you aren't eating less. Plus I am not sure if what you were doing before to lose the weight but if you are doing whatever it was you were doing (i.e exercising, eating better) still than that could be a reason. Your baby is still small & you aren't supposed to take in but an extra 300 calories when pregnant!! Basically if your OB says the baby is good then don't sweat it & feel VERY proud!!!:):)

Dont even worry about it. I just turned 20 wks and barely gained 3lbs. I had lost about 7lbs since i found out i was preg. Its totally normal in the beginning. As long your eating right and healthy you'll eventually gain weight. I didnt have any morning sickness either.

I am 37 week today, and I have not gained one pound I am actually down about a pound. My ob is not concerned at all, our little one is actually measuring about 8 lbs right now and I still have 3 weeks to go. So I wouldn't worry too much, if your doctor doesn't seem to concern and your little one is right on track, I wouldn't stress over it.

my sister-in-law didn't gain any weight...in fact, she lost 12lbs during her whole pregnancy. she delivered a healthy 7.5lb baby girl. i personally was overweight to start and only gained about 7lbs with both of my daughters and they are both very healthy. you just need to eat healthy. it's just less to lose after!! that's a good thing, enjoy it!

Dear reader of these posts,
I am a little worried though I am going to ask my doctor... I have lost 10 kgs or 22lbs since finding out that I am pregnant and I am only 10 weeks. I am concerned only because I want to continue breastfeeding my 16th month old as he isn't ready to be weaned. Has anyone else experienced this sort of weight loss? (I am not yet under my the smallest weight I was before I had children but it is concerning...).
Thanks I will let you know what my doctor says later.

I know of other people who have lost weight/not gained a lot - I would recommend foods like whole fat yogurt, cheese, nuts, fatty fish like salmon and whole grain carbs. Good luck !

I'm 31 weeks with my first child and I am actually down 17 lbs (as of my last dr visit yesterday) from where I began. I have had no morning sickness and very little nausea (I consider my self very lucky and blessed), I also eat like I always have. When I went into the dr yesterday and saw that I had lost 6 lbs in the last week I was shocked and a little terrified. My OB says that he thinks its in part to the Metformin I'm on which is helping balance out my blood sugar levels. He said he is not worried and that this can actually happen sometimes to pregant women (especially when they start out overweight as I did). I had an ultrasound last week and our little Autumn is actually measuring in the 67th percentile right now at 3 lbs 15 oz. The doctor also said that my belly is growing right where it needs to be at this point and she sounds and looks very healthy. So I would say not to worry about it until your OB starts to show some concern, which he/she more than likely will not. Good luck and congratulations :)

With each of my pregnancies I have lost 10-20 lbs in the first 3-4 months. All 3 times without ever having morning sickness. It's just the way my body works. I am sure it is the same for you. Just keep eating healthly.

WOW. No sickness for you, I'm jealous. I am currently at then end of my 15th week and to date I think I am at a loss of 11 lbs. At first because food was the most disgusting thing ever but at the last doctors appointment he wasn't concerned. My sister's friend also lost about 15 lbs during her last pregnancy and her babies are beautiful and healthy. The way I figure it, is so long as I am still eating and not starving myself my baby is going to get the nutrients he/she needs to grow.

One should not loose weight during pregnancy because it effects the growth of your baby.

don't worry about loosing weight, during my first pregnancy I only gained 7lbs and that wasn't until the very end. I am pregnant again and am following the same path. I am now 23 weeks and i have lost 23lbs. it is not a problem as long as you are not doing it on purpose and you are still eating healthy.

Im 35 weeks and I've loss a total of 48 lbs my doctor told me it was normal cause I was 191 at my first appt. I wouldn't worry as long as it's not to much at one time.

What you have to remember is... your metabolism is speeding up, which is also why you may be more hungry and tired. Some women lose weight, I lost 10 pounds in the beginning with my first and only about 5 with my second. I plateaued for a good few months in my second trimester this second pregnancy because I workout religiously. For both of my pregnancies, I gained the most weight at the end.

There's a huge misconception between women and men, and people who've never been pregnant that all pregnant women need to be big, plump fast-food eating, ice cream munching "Oh, I'm eating for two" machines. FAT is not good for you or your baby. You will naturally gain weight if you eat healthy because your breasts are getting bigger and you have amniotic fluid, extra blood, and a baby growing inside of you.
Your baby doesn't really weigh anything until the second half of your pregnancy, then he'll grow rapidly.

Absolutely, healthy diet is the first and the foremost right of every human being and in the case of pregnancy it is of the utmost importance. If you don't like these stuffs, you could have some suggestions from your doc. There are some cases where women do lose weight during pregnancy, but if you are not sure just ask your doc. and even if you feel unsatisfied opt for a second opinion.

i am 12 1/2 weeks and i've lost close to 30lbs since i found out i was pregnant, i cant seem to keep anything down, the smell of food makes me sick, i am taking a prenatal vitamin and the dr says i'm doing fine... i was over weight when i first found out i was pregnant weighing 206lb, now i way 175lb @ 3months pregnant, it seems like every week i'm losing 1-2 lbs. i guess besides feeling horrible, losing weight feels good, i fit into jeans i havent fit into since before i was pregnant with my previous child...

It will be more beneficial if you concentrate on nutritious food apart from fatty foods. Healthy body is really very good rather than fat body....

The weight gained during pregnancy is not easy to lose, one will have to put extra effort to shed those extra pounds. It is better to go on a good weight loss program or weight loss diet. One has to very careful while choosing a weight loss method during pregnancy or it may affect the baby.

In case loosing weight fast is priority, you could try a weight loss supplement (http://www.fatabsorb.com/) like fat absorb or even an appetite suppressant like Xenical. Weather it works or not depends on person to person. However definitely worth a try. Also check out with what your doc advises you to do since this is a fairly common problem.

I am 17 weeks and since I have been pregnant, I have lost 24 lbs. I never had vomiting but I havent liked food since. I barely eat once a day. I do however have gall stones which bothers me on a daily basis. Nobody including my doctor has anything to say about the significant weight loss. I have Lupus/Fibromyalgia and hypertension to add to my list. Plus im over 35. I guess I just have lots going against me.

My pregnancy with my second is different from my first. Although I eat a lot, I didn't gained weight. I was in my last trimester when I gained weight.. I think you should not worry about losing weight as long as you eat and the baby is healthy.

So, eat sensibley, don't go without food yourself, and you and your child will be great! PS-the less body weight you obtain now, the less you will have to fear about after pregnancy!

I never had throwing up but I have not liked meals since. I hardly eat once a day. I do however have gall rocks which concerns me on a regular foundation. Nobody such as my physician has anything to say about the important weight-loss.
