Hi there. I’m new here but really need some advice. I’ve been a stay-at-home Mom for the past year. My 11 month old just started daycare while I find a part-time job. He’s gone 7 times in the last 2 weeks for about 4 hours each day. He’s having a terrible time adjusting. He won’t eat for anyone at the daycare. Now that I think of it, the very few times we left him with my Mom or a friend (people he sees EVERY week); he wouldn’t eat for them either (unless I was in the room). Luckily he will take a bottle most days but he sometimes refuses that as well. I know he cries a lot when I leave and for much of the day. Will it get better or am I just torturing everyone?

As a former daycare worker, I can tell you that it's very common and it will take some time for your child to adjust to the new routine! He will eventually get used to what's going to happen when he goes there and the people as well! The one thing that I can suggest to you is to ask your daycare employees any suggestions they might have: I remember a child who had been with his mommy for a little over a year and He had similar behaviors like your son,His parents had to bring him in everyday for a week to get him adjusted! One on One off may be little confusing for him.And us workers had to leave him until he was ready and I remember sitting down in his proximity and reading a book aloud and he all of a sudden came over and sat down on my lap and listened and I didn't say anything to him but kept reading the story and the behaviours stopped and well I made a new best friend! In time a worker (who is dedicated to the job) will get his attention and well that's when your going to see changes!
Just in case you are still in a month from now wondering why he's not adjusting well, I'd set a time when you know it's not nap and not your usual pick up time to take a peek at how the staff are treating the situation cause sometimes daycares don't always have the dedicated staff they need and you may see something that will answer your concerns! I sure hope that's not the case but you never know! Good Luck and stay strong!
